The proposed model augments current state of the art behavioral models, which only models the output waveform of the device under test, by including an accurate estimation of the efficiency. This efficiency estimation is performed using continuous wave measured data via a power scaling block. The model performances, experimentally assessed using a Doherty power amplifier prototype driven by an LTE signal, demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed structure and its suitability to simultaneously predict power amplifiers' output waveform as well as its power efficiency.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130969026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a novel design of an Archimedean single-arm spiral antenna fed through a coaxial feed for operation in X and Ku frequency bands covering 8 GHz to 18 GHz frequencies. The antenna has very good impedance matching (better than -10 dB) throughout the frequency range, good right hand circular polarisation (≤3 dB) and offers a maximum peak gain of 9.1 dBi. The radiation characteristics, efficiency, gain and compact size make this antenna suitable for rigid, mobile and airborne terminals. The compact size also makes the proposed antenna good candidate for wearable/poartable wireless communication devices.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114899554","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This GISTM receiver is able to measure the Total Electron Content (TEC), and both the amplitude and phase scintillations. This study focuses on the polar patches occurrences observed over Alert for 26-month period from June 2008 until July 2010 where it was mostly during the minimum state of solar activity. It is found that the difference in the occurrences of small patches between months of the same year was about 1-2% (for low intensity patches) and 1-10% (moderate-high intensity). This difference increased to 1-4% (low intensity) and 1-12% (moderate-high intensity) for large patches. UT dependence can be seen where ~80 large and ~300 small patches were identified ~1000 to 2000 UT from June to October in both 2008 and 2009, and they doubled in 2010.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124553724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The models are built around state of the art two-box models, namely the Hammerstein model and the forward twin-nonlinear two-box model, and take advantage of the separation, in these two-box models, between the static and dynamic distortions of the power amplifier. In the proposed bandwidth-scalable two-box models, rather than updating the entire model coefficients when the signal bandwidth changes, the memoryless function is maintained unchanged and only the function modeling the dynamic distortions is updated. Experimental validation carried out on a Doherty amplifier prototype shows that the proposed bandwidth-scalable models are able to achieve the same performance as the conventional models while reducing the number of parameters to be updated following a change in the operating signal bandwidth by up to approximately 75% for the Hammerstein model and 40% for the forward twin-nonlinear two-box model. The developed models are suitable for emerging wireless applications where operating conditions varies rapidly.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122303431","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed antenna offers wide operational bandwidth within 500 MHz to 2 GHz frequency band. This property makes the antenna suitable for the application of GPR for buried object detection. Taconic TLY-5 is used as the substrate with dielectric constant of 2.2, tangent loss of 0.0009 and thickness of 1.57 mm. The proposed antenna has simple structure and fully planar, therefore it is easy to integrate with other planar devices. To obtain a directional radiation pattern, the antenna is placed inside an open metallic shielded box. In turn, the gain of the antenna is also increased using this approach. The results in term of reflection coefficient, gain, radiation pattern of the antenna are discussed in this paper.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123154655","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The abnormal high power behavior can be explained in terms of self-heating and the temperature dependence of the device performance. By incorporating self-heating and temperature dependence into a simplified model, power collapse is reproduced in harmonic balance simulation. A novel simulation scheme is then proposed to simulate the power hysteresis. By representing the power sweep in the measurement with a time-varying power source, the power hysteresis has been successfully reproduced in circuit envelope simulation.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115718535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper also introduces an ultra-wideband CIFA based on two techniques which are bandwidth enhancement and radiator miniaturization. As a result, this modification increases the antenna resonant bandwidth to cover almost all UWB range covering the WiMAX and WLAN services. The 10dB return loss bandwidth cover two frequency ranges. The first bandwidth is from 3.6 to 6.4 GHz and the second bandwidth is from 6.9 to 9.5 GHz. From the analysis, the antenna radiation patterns are nearly omnidirectional with low antenna gain. The design of antenna configuration, return loss, far field radiation pattern and gain results are presented and discussed. The performance of this antenna can lead to a promising candidate to be considered by mobile communication designers for application in compact multiband mobile phone and other UWB applications.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130050174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Service continuity can be maintain by using an accurate vertical handover scheme. IEEE 802.21 standard facilitates handover between heterogeneous networks by presenting media independent handover (MIH) reference models for different link layers technologies. In this paper, we carried out a comprehensive analysis for the key metrics that affects the Quality of Service (QoS) during the vertical handover between WiFi and WiMAX networks. The main objective is to study the effect of the mobile speed on these metrics to measure the performance of vertical handover process through the interoperability between WiFi and WiMAX networks using MIH. The simulation results can help the network designers to implement algorithms such as multi criteria decision-making (MCDM) algorithms in MIH framework to enhance the vertical handover process and consider the mobile speed in the design.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"202 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133176286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
