In this paper ultrawideband multiple input multiple output (UWB-MIMO) radio channel characterization for body centric wireless communication is being presented. Body shadowing and body obstruction limits the channel capacity. It has been observed that MIMO antenna technique provide significant increase in capacity for body-centric wireless networks (BCWN). Spatial correlation matrices (complex and power correlation) have been computed and it has been noticed that the correlation values are much higher, where antennas are located in line-of-sight scenario as compared to none-line of sight case. In addition to this, capacity comparison of MIMO antenna with single input single output (SISO) and single input multiple output (SIMO) antenna system shows significant improvement for MIMO case, which supports the applicability of MIMO in BCWN.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123082402","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A G-shaped slotted printed rectangular monopole antenna with a defected ground plane for band broadening is presented. The antenna was deployed on FR4-Epoxy dielectric substrate with the overall dimensions of the proposed antenna can reach 30 × 48 × 1.6 mm3. Theoretical and experimental characteristic are illustrated for this antenna, which achieved impedance bandwidth of 60.26% (over 2.4-4.47 GHz) and 28.04% (over 4.6-6.1GHz), with a reflection coefficient ≤ -10 dB. Parasitic patch antenna is mainly used to steer the main beam towards a desired direction and suppress the signal in unwanted directions. In such a scenario, the ability to steer the beam with reduced side lobe level is considered important to enhance the signal reception while minimizing the unwanted signals such as interference and noise. The investigations carried out in this work explore the insight of the RF switch in order to achieve the beam steering with minimized side lobe level. A three element parasitic patch antenna is designed to achieve beam steering at -30°, 0° and 30°, with minimized side lobe level deployed with the suitable choice of RF switch. Through the investigations conducted in this work, it has been identified that increased ISO at OFF state of the RF switch improves the performance of beam steering.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132335671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Orientations of antennas on a ship are limited so that transmitted electromagnetic waves are not affected by structures on the ship. Thus it is allowed to transmit waves when a clearance angle is greater than certain criteria. Our group has researched about fundamental relation between clearance angles and interferences for other satellites or other systems on the ship by numerical simulations for a simplified model. In this report, a realistic ship model is assumed for the simulations. As a result, a clearance angle, which interferences to the receiving satellite are small, has been found out under the conditions of the simulations. A simple model which describes interferences to received levels of the aiming and neighboring satellites is presented.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"182 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123476891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The filter has been designed for 2GHz bandwidth at 41GHz center frequency. The filter samples were fabricated using 127μm thick Rogers RT/Duroid 5880 with Ground-Signal-Ground (GSG) pads to facilitate probe measurement. The first cycle of fabrication revealed that the Dielectric Constant (Dk) for designing hairpin filter using RT5880 is lower than the specified process Dk. The second trial exposed that hairpin filters are very sensitive to process tolerance. The filters for the subsequent fabrication manipulated design Dk of 2.1 and tighter process tolerance. The filters then show improved passband shape and return loss. However, the fabricated filters provide larger passband with slightly shifted center frequency than the simulated result due to inaccurate setting in the simulation tool. Nevertheless, the fabricated filters are still valid to be used for the intended application.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117146750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
