Packages are placed in thermal insulated containers instead, while the temperature is constantly monitored by wireless sensors. Because the cargo space is full of lossy materials, the sensor-integrated antenna is designed to provide radiations in a waveguide-like propagation environment. A low-profile dipole antenna configuration is adopted. Simulation and measurement results demonstrate the proposed conformal antenna can provide the required radiation patterns with decent gains and efficiencies.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130747176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) and 3rd Generation (3G) are the most widely implemented interfaces in the latest mobile communication devices and therefore being able to fulfil most of the computing aspects. Nowadays, most modern mobile devices suffer from the interoperability between the WiFi and 3G interfaces, each access technology serves the user independently and therefore these technologies suffer the lack of interworking mechanisms and service continuity. In this paper, we carried out an intensive simulation analysis for the integration between WiFi from the 802 family of standards and UMTS as 3G cellular network. This integration is enhanced by IEEE802.21 standard that facilitates handover between heterogeneous networks by presenting media independent handover (MIH) reference models for different link layers technologies. The main objective is to study the impact of the mobile node speeds and applications bitrates on the key performance metrics in vertical handover scenarios. This study will present the importance of considering the mobile node speeds and applications bitrates in the vertical handover scenarios by observing the behavior of the performance metrics that affect the Quality of Service (QoS). In the proposed vertical handover scenarios, the recommended range of speeds and bitrates were precisely identified according to the acceptable values of the performance metrics defined by International Telecommunication Union - Telecommunication (ITU-T).","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123872180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

DGS is used for its property of miniaturizing the size of microwave filter and also improving the mutual coupling between the resonators. The proposed dumbbell shaped DGS is used to tune the bandpass filter to 2.4 GHz with dimension of 28 mm × 30 mm. A wide tuning range of 0.64 GHz is achieved by tuning the height, length and width dimension of DGS unit cell. This filter gives an insertion loss of -0.23 dB, a return loss of -38.03 dB and -3 dB bandwidth of 0.56 GHz. The tuning of SIR bandpass filter, using DGS structure parameters is discussed here. Moreover, the effect of different parameters of DGS on center frequency is shown and discussed with results.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131493159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

High drip loss will affect both the yield and quality of meat. It may lead to a large reduction in financial output, nutritional value as well as consumer appeal. Water-holding capacity (WHC) is the ability of muscle to retain naturally occurring moisture in meat. Current methods used to estimate WHC of postmortem muscle by means of measuring drip loss are time-consuming. This paper highlights current methods used to measure WHC and drip loss in meat. The paper will also present a novel method to measure drip loss and hence determine WHC using a microwave cavity. The cavity is first modelled using Ansys High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS). The cavity is then constructed, tested and evaluated in LJMU laboratories. The results obtained using different types of meat such as; pork, chicken, beef and lamb are presented and discussed in this paper. The results indicate that determination of WHC using microwave spectroscopy is a promising alternative to the existing methods.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127223739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The EWSA is basically designed in circle shape at the centre but then subtracted by square shape at the upper and bottom. In seeking good results, the optimization process is compulsory where the width of squares hold the key of dual band frequencies and good gain values. The gain produced is as high as 6.649 dB and 7.826 dB is obtained at the frequency of 1.575 GHz and 1.8 GHz correspondingly. Moreover, flexibility in structure enables the EWSA to be easily integrated into safety jackets and rain coats for tracking, search and rescue communication purposes.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124610354","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A microwave dielectric measurement is set up to measure dosage of drug in solution. It is well-known as non-destructive and rapid method. In this work, the drug used is paracetamol because it is a common consumed pharmaceutical drug by public as mild painkiller. The dielectric measurement was conducted on paracetamol from 200 MHz to 10 GHz. The solution of paracetamol was prepared in various concentrations (molarity). Solution with different concentration will exhibit different dielectric properties. A P-Series Network Analyzer (PNA) is used to measure the dielectric properties.","PeriodicalId":187090,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE International RF and Microwave Conference (RFM)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115147994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
