In fact, most educators consider it to be the most effective and practical approach to language teaching. Early studies indicated that the positive or negative attitudes of learners toward CLT can affect their language learning process. As a result, the current study aims to unveil the perceptions and attitudes of Saudi college and graduate students toward the implementation of CLT to enhance their speaking and listening skills. Furthermore, gender role is also considered since Saudi has a segregated system of education. Questionnaire items adopted from Komol et al. (2020) were rated on a Likert scale which ranged from “Strongly Disagree” (1, very low) to “Strongly Agree” (5, very high). Mean Likert scale scores were used to evaluate the responses of participants along with the standard deviation (SD). The study found that Saudi participants displayed a higher perception of CLT activities when compared to their attitude. Moreover, females showed a higher perception and attitude toward CLT activities than males did. The highest mean scores of perception items among females are “Making a short video” because it allows them to get more exposure to English use while males have chosen “Teacher’s instruction on class CLT activities” as more significant. Concerning attitudinal items, males believe in using CLT activities to promote their language proficiency. In contrast, females believe in using role-play activities to improve their language proficiency. Finally, females showed less preference for CLT group or class activities than males did.","PeriodicalId":186924,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of English Language and Linguistics Research","volume":"19 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140506741","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Teachers and students communicate through chat, video calls, or emails. The government also launched educational television programming as an alternative for students who do not have access to the internet. Online learning is becoming more popular. However, there are problems with students' perseverance and achievement. Many learners can't study well in difficult situations like a pandemic. So, we need to think about learning strategies that give all students chances to achieve specific goals when they're studying at home. Writing in a foreign language is hard. This study looks at how online self-learning helps students. It checks their writing and they adjust their learning. They learn to write better. The aim of this study is to show how online learning enhances writing skills.","PeriodicalId":186924,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of English Language and Linguistics Research","volume":"7 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140508262","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of such linguistic features is the inflectional markers/affixes which are used to mark different grammatical categories. These differences often create problems to the Ikwere learners of English as a second language. This paper, therefore examines the progressive markers in English and Ikwere languages so as to identify areas of differences in both languages that may pose problems to the Ikwere learners of English as well as areas of similarities that make the learning and proficiency in the use of the progressive marker in the target language easier. The data were collected from the language samples and analysed using the descriptive method. The theoretical framework adopted in this study is Robert Ledo’s contrastive analysis (CA). The findings of this study revealed that in both languages, the progressive inflectional markers are suffixes. The study also revealed that while English language marks the progressive verb form with the “-ing” suffix, Ikwere language marks the progressive verb form with the ‘-ga suffix. This paper further revealed that while English language marks the present progressive verb forms with the present forms of the auxiliary verb (be), main verb and the “ing” marker, the Ikwere language marks the present progressive form with the ‘ga’ suffix. This paper further observes that while English forms its past progressive forms with the past form of the auxiliary verb (be), the main verb and the “ing” marker, the Ikwere language forms it past progressive with the presence of the suffix ‘ga’ followed by the factative rV suffix. This paper therefore recommends that Ikwere learners of English should make conscious effort to master the areas of differences in the use of the progressive markers in both languages so as to avoid transfer of rules to the English language.","PeriodicalId":186924,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of English Language and Linguistics Research","volume":"10 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140508490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Those students have a common sense that the key of reading comprehension is to develop the quantity of vocabulary and analyse grammatical structure of each sentence. The article provides a functional analysis briefing on interpersonal and thematic analysis on the basis of theory of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) to analyse reading materials from TEM 4 in order to help English major students in China have a good understanding and effective reading strategy when they do the reading comprehension. On the other hand, students learning from these analytical tools and process may have more grammatical awareness on identifying clauses and thematic relations across different reading genres.","PeriodicalId":186924,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of English Language and Linguistics Research","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124130920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In other words, it is devoted to the formation, the structure, the semantics, etc. of words or forms denoting more than one element in both languages. Thus, the work aims to analyze this class of grammatical forms usually used to denote more than one, or in some languages more than two elements. Thus, the study of the plural in the noun phrase is in the heart of the current study. However, to collect data, in order to have a corpus, we have done some research, organized interviews with English and Siin Seereer native speakers. The collection of data has conducted us to have a clear presentation, analysis and interpretation of our corpus. The work provides new and authentic data drawn from a variety of documents, interviews, etc. that enable us to implement a descriptive approach. This approach of descriptive analysis of the plural has helped us to point out that there are differences and some similarities in these languages. In other words, the formation, the semantics, the structure, etc. of the different types of nouns in both languages are different. Furthermore, we have noticed that there are differences as far as the determiners, used with these types of nouns, are concerned.","PeriodicalId":186924,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of English Language and Linguistics Research","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134449360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Jing","doi":"10.37745/ijellr.13/vol11n34968","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.37745/ijellr.13/vol11n34968","url":null,"abstract":"As the golden business card, the trademark is quite unique for commodity and closely related to the survival and development of an enterprise. A good trademark not only conveys the basic information of the product but also impresses the consumers and even triggers them to buy the product. As a popular saying in Chinese business circle goes like that “Trademark is soft power”. Trademark translation is a complicated process. Trademark itself has the characteristics of recognition, transmission, aesthetics, adaptability and modernity, so trademark translation is endowed with cultural pragmatic function. This study is theoretically based on the adaptation theory proposed by Jef Verschueren, a famous Belgian linguist and secretary-general of the International Association for Pragmatics. This article discusses the application of adaptation theory in trademark translation. Adaptation theory refers to how a translator can adapt to different cultural and linguistic environments to ensure that the translated trademark name has the same commercial appeal and conveys the same brand image. The article emphasizes the need for translators to understand the cultural and commercial significance of the source language trademark, select an appropriate trademark name that appeals to the target audience, and ensure the trademark is legally and commercially acceptable in the target language environment. Overall, adaptation theory is crucial for ensuring that trademark names are translated effectively across different cultures and languages. With a number of successful examples and failures of existing trademark translations, this study will analyze the cultural differences reflected in the translation of trademarks from the perspective of consumer psychology, customs, aesthetic concepts, religious beliefs and cognitive differences. Several basic trademark translation methods including transliteration, literal translation, combination of transliteration and literal translation, free translation will also be proposed and analyzed. This paper seeks to provide a reference value for seeking more appropriate trademark translations in the future. In addition, through the prediction and analysis of the trend of trademark translation, the author believes that the future direction of trademark translation is diversified, especially from the perspective of the cultural communicative function of trademarks, the emphasis of trademark translation will be on the exploration of cultural transmission and pragmatic function.","PeriodicalId":186924,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of English Language and Linguistics Research","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123993188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The history of women athletics goes back to ancient civilization; it is not a recent phenomenon. Women are occasionally forbidden from competing, which led them to create their own games. Sports have a universal appeal. It does not discriminate based on things like race, gender, caste, or color. Sports participation emphasizes both overall development and health. Men used to participate in most games, sports, and athletic events back in the day, but today’s women face, any restrictions, including those are physical, mental, social, cultural, and more. Women have advanced significantly in many areas of life in the past century. Today, women can hold employment, own property, and play professional sports. Women in India are making every effort to hear in the male-dominated sports industry, even though you may not hear crowds for their goals or see media outlets devote all their primetime slots to covering their matches. We will trace how race and gender function in the society continue to be hampered by the absence of an intersectional perspective. The main aim of the research is to explore and analyze the critical situation, struggle, and psychological conditions of Indian and Black Sportswomen.","PeriodicalId":186924,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of English Language and Linguistics Research","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116257995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
