Does it indicate that Wikipedia has come against its limits of growth? A recent survey conducted by us, however, shows that Wikipedia is unable to satisfactorily answer the queries of the users many a times. We believe that the readers can provide a better insight into the shortcomings of the articles. This paper proposes the incorporation of a Q&A facility into Wikipedia as one of the possible measures to fill the knowledge gap. We created a local Wiki, named Q-Wiki, at our institute, coupled with the features of Q&A. The experiment conducted on Q-Wiki verifies the effectiveness of the proposed idea.","PeriodicalId":185861,"journal":{"name":"2016 8th International Conference on Communication Systems and Networks (COMSNETS)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117089328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The need for an efficient WBAN patient monitoring, where information extraction is done, sent across to many individuals such as the doctors and nurses to analyze the condition of a patient. This paper addresses certain challenges for efficient transmission of data, by proposing a topology which allows virtual groups to be formed between the devices (sensor nodes and mobile devices) of patients, nurses and doctors in order to perform remote analysis of WBAN data. Group formation is performed by timely updating the patient's data for vitals such as temperature, ECG, EEG, heart rate and many more. The WBAN data gathered are transmitted to the virtual group members through an underlying environmental sensor network. This virtual group will send and receive the data for a particular amount of time by using network protocols. By doing so, it is easier for medical persons to monitor the critical patients where timely help can be provided immediately, preventing loss of life due to delay in transmission. The proposed approach is evaluated through a series of simulation using network simulator.","PeriodicalId":185861,"journal":{"name":"2016 8th International Conference on Communication Systems and Networks (COMSNETS)","volume":"19 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116673267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we demonstrate using the theory of fluid queues that for a two transmitter case, centralized scheduling of component carrier (CC) of multiple Small Cells (SeNB) of a cellular operator can provide higher achievable throughput as compared to an uncoordinated approach. To quantify the gains in throughput for a realistic cellular setting, we evaluate a greedy CC scheduler on a LTE System Level Simulator and show that up to 40% throughput gains as also energy efficiency gains are possible with joint scheduling. However, these gains are at the expense of the central controller having complete knowledge of the measurement reports of all the cells of each User Equipment (UE). We exploit the correlated nature of the interference in a dense small cell scenario and propose cognitive measurement algorithms considering realistic cellular settings. We show that using our proposed cognitive measurement algorithm, we can decrease the requirement of uplink (UL) overhead from 12.5 UL reports/UE/second to 0.7 UL reports/UE/second while still maintaining a desired gain in throughput over the uncoordinated scheduling scheme.","PeriodicalId":185861,"journal":{"name":"2016 8th International Conference on Communication Systems and Networks (COMSNETS)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126460632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The recent research on MANET focuses on developing security enforcement mechanisms based on various trust models. However, most of the existing trust models are application specific which impose limitations on their applicability with changes in requirements, resource constraints, and behavioural dynamics. In this paper, we present a comparative study of various trust models in MANET with respect to their performance, security enforcing features, and usability. This study experimentally reveals the limitations of existing trust models. It also shows that their is a need for designing adaptive, multi-level trust models for MANET, that supports heterogeneous applications with different requirements and contexts.","PeriodicalId":185861,"journal":{"name":"2016 8th International Conference on Communication Systems and Networks (COMSNETS)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116294700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Though Internet-wide vulnerabilities have been studied extensively, the robustness of metropolitan area networks is still not well understood. In this paper, we study structural properties and vulnerabilities in metropolitan area networks, and develop techniques to monitor failures by small detection sets. By combining geolocation techniques with traceroute based measurements, we collect a large data set for 12 of the 25 most populated metropolitan regions in the US. Our analysis reveals that the structure of these paths gives superior insights into the robustness of metropolitan area networks as compared to the topological structure of the graph induced by these paths, which has been traditionally studied.","PeriodicalId":185861,"journal":{"name":"2016 8th International Conference on Communication Systems and Networks (COMSNETS)","volume":"224 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122246407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent experiences have shown that the failure of a data center (at a site) is inevitable. In order to mask the failure, spare compute capacity needs to be provisioned across the distributed data center, which leads to additional cost. While the existing literature addresses the capacity provisioning problem only to minimize the number of servers, we argue that the operating cost needs to be considered as well. Since the operating cost and client demand vary both across space and time, we consider cost-aware capacity provisioning to account for their impact on the operating cost of data centers. We propose an optimization framework to minimize the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of the cloud provider while designing fault-tolerant geo-distributed data centers. We model the variation in the demand, fluctuation of electricity price and carbon tax across different countries, and delay constraints while computing the spare capacity. On solving the proposed optimization model using real world data, we notice a saving in the TCO (that includes cost of servers and operating cost) of about 17% compared to the model that only minimizes the number of extra servers. Results also highlight the relationship of power usage effectiveness (PUE), over-provisioning for fault tolerance, choice of data center locations, and latency requirements on the TCO. In particular, we notice that the approach of minimizing TCO is beneficial when the electricity prices vary significantly and the PUE is high, which appears to be the case with most of the cloud providers.","PeriodicalId":185861,"journal":{"name":"2016 8th International Conference on Communication Systems and Networks (COMSNETS)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133453276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, key challenges exist in large scale adoption of distributed solar generation. Firstly, there are concerns related to breach of voltage regulations and system instabilities caused by distributed generation. Secondly, there are challenges in providing robust communication infrastructure for utilities to actively control and dispatch distributed generation. We address these challenges by designing a decentralised controller iPlug, which involves voltage-sensitive back-off of the level of solar capacity injection into the grid and is inspired by the CSMA protocol from Networking literature. This is done in conjunction with other resources like local batteries and local demand ramp-up resources. iPlug functions are complementary to emerging microinverter technologies and could in principle be incorporated into either the inverter controls or battery and home energy management control systems. We present preliminary results from simulation-based evaluation of iPlug algorithms and compare it with static PV injection strategies.","PeriodicalId":185861,"journal":{"name":"2016 8th International Conference on Communication Systems and Networks (COMSNETS)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117192514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
