It is valuable in numerous applications such as entrance admission, security, parking control, road traffic control, and speed control. However, the system only manages to identify the license number and needs an operator to control the collected data. Therefore, this paper proposes an automatic license plate recognition system by using the image processing and template matching approach. The current study aims to increase the efficiency of license plate recognition system for Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) smart university. This venture comprises of simulation program to recognize license plate characters where a captured image of vehicles will be the input. Then, these images will be processed using several image processing techniques and optical character recognition method in order to recognize the segmented number plate. The image processing techniques consist of colour conversion, image segmentation using Otsu's thresholding, noise removal, image subtraction, image cropping and bounding box feature. The optical character recognition based on template matching approach is used to analyse the printed characters on the segmented license plate image and to produce an output data consisting of characters. Overall, the proposed automatic vehicle license plate recognition system is capable to perform the recognition process by successfully recognizing license plate of 13 cars, from a total of 14 cars.","PeriodicalId":185167,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Computational Approach in Smart Systems Design and Applications (ICASSDA)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123489212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system was modeled using multi-layer perceptron neural network structure based on Nonlinear Autoregressive Exogenous (NARX) model. The hybrid controllers are incorporated with optimization algorithm that is ABC and PSO to find out the parameters of the PID controllers. Numerical simulation was carried out in MATLAB/Simulink to evaluate the system in term of tracking capability and vibration suppression for both links. Performance of the controllers are compared with the hybrid PID-PID Ziegler Nichols (ZN) controller in term of input tracking and vibration suppression. The results show that PSO revealed the superiority over ABC in controlling the system. The system managed to reach desired angle for both hub at lower overshoot using proposed method. Meanwhile, the vibration reduction shows great improvement for both link 1 and 2. This signifies that, the PSO algorithm is very effective in optimizing the PID parameters.","PeriodicalId":185167,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Computational Approach in Smart Systems Design and Applications (ICASSDA)","volume":"898 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132273408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, to execute an automatic system in noisy environment due to background noises is a challenging task. Instead of depending on physical observation procedure to identify the particular species, this study proposes an automated frog identification system based on bioacoustics signal analysis. Experimental studies of 15 species of frogs are used in this study. These calls are then corrupted by 20dB 10dB and 5dB in different stationary and nonstationary noises. The calls are segmented with three different techniques which are Sinusoidal Modeling (SM), combination of Short Time Energy (STE) and Short Time Average Zero Crossing Rate (STAZCR) (STE+STAZCR) and combination of Energy (E) and Zero Crossing Rate (ZCR) (E+ZCR). A syllable feature extraction method i.e. mel-frequency cepstrum coefficients (MFCC) employed to extract the segmented signal. Subsequently, k nearest neighbor (kNN) are employed in order to evaluate the performance of the identification system. Two experiments have been experimented to compare the performace of SM, E+ZCR and STE+ZTAZCR. The classification performance for three techniques are found to be 90.330/0, 93.340/0 and 93.21% for the SM, E+ZCR and STE+ZTAZCR, respectively.","PeriodicalId":185167,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Computational Approach in Smart Systems Design and Applications (ICASSDA)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115398549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The vital aspect that causes road accident is a human error due to the behavior of the drivers. This research presents approaches for alertness detection based on the electroencephalography and power spectrum to evaluate driver's vigilance level in a static driving simulator. Twenty datasets were acquired using the eight-channel wireless headset for EEG signals recording. Two driving tasks, that are Alert Driving (AD) and Fatigue Driving (FD), were instigated for data acquisition, to discriminate the driver's alertness level. The AD task is designed to demonstrate the alertness condition and FD task is for the fatigued state. The acquired EEG signals are preprocessed to eliminate the noise interference and segmented into equal-length frame samples. The frame samples (signals) are segregated into four frequency range signals (i.e. Delta, Theta, Alpha, and Beta) and used to select the distinctive attribute. To estimate the alertness level, four different frequency-domain power spectral density (PSD) feature extraction techniques were evaluated (specifically periodogram, Lomb-Scargle, multitaper, and Welch). Multilayer Neural Network (MLNN) is used to evaluate the performance of all the extracted features. Ten-fold cross-validation method was used for validating and testing the reliability of the classifier model. The highest average accuracy is obtained from PSD using Welch with 96.7% and 85.0% for training accuracy and testing accuracy respectively.","PeriodicalId":185167,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Computational Approach in Smart Systems Design and Applications (ICASSDA)","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133015684","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
