There are many different systems for recognizing the person. The traditional authentication systems such as passwords have drawbacks. It is easy to be stolen. Biometric authentication systems provide the best security. However, a current technique that widely used for identification which is fingerprint has its own disadvantages. Furthermore, current techniques such as facial recognition, iris recognition and voice recognition that used to recognize person still compromise the security walls. In this recent years, electroencephalograph (EEG) signal has been discovered that it has the potential to become one of the biometric authentication systems. It is brain activities for a human. It is unique due to the EEG signal is different from person to person. In this paper, power spectral density analysis was used to analyse the electroencephalography (EEG) signal. K-nearest neighbor classifier was used for classification in this paper. The accuracy results of alpha (8–13 Hz), beta (13–30 Hz), combined alpha and beta (8–30 Hz) and combined theta, alpha, beta and gamma (4–40 Hz) frequency bands were compared. Overall, the percentage of accuracy was above 80%. The most suitable frequency bands for human EEG-based biometric identification in this experiment was the combined theta, alpha, beta, and gamma (4–40 Hz). The percentage of accuracy for this frequency band was the highest among the others which is 89.21%.","PeriodicalId":185167,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Computational Approach in Smart Systems Design and Applications (ICASSDA)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114209779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a very important step to segment foreground text form background images. Binarization processes become a challenging task when it comes to old document images which usually suffer from degradations. The different types of document degradation such as uneven illumination, image contrast variation and bleeding-through, binarization surely become an enormous challenge for all researchers. Binary image representation is the essential format for document analysis. This paper presents comparisons of several image binarization techniques in order to find the best approach for the binarizing document image. Several binarization techniques such as Bernsen, Multiple Thresholding, Deghost, Fuzzy C-Means and Triangle methods have been selected for comparison and applied on H-DIBCO 2013 dataset. According to the image quality assessment (IQA) results, it is obvious to state that the Fuzzy C-Means method is successful and effective compared to other methods. Hence, the implications of this image analysis would give researchers a direction for future research.","PeriodicalId":185167,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Computational Approach in Smart Systems Design and Applications (ICASSDA)","volume":"207 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131984911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present work, simple and efficient front water spraying cooling system in a photovoltaic panel has been designed and developed to introduce active cooling in order to eliminate heat. The performance of the proposed cooling system has been tested and evaluated for the weather climate of a city in Jitra Kedah, Malaysia. The experimental result revealed that with front water cooling system the cell temperature measured at the back of the solar panel can be significantly reduced up to 20–22 °C. Consequently the electrical efficiency of the SPV panel improves by 10.5% with the introduction of the proposed cooling technique.","PeriodicalId":185167,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Computational Approach in Smart Systems Design and Applications (ICASSDA)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115132283","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Micro trip cycle construction approach is use in this study to construct driving cycle for Malaysia's urban road system. The driving cycle constructed using this approach is a transient driving cycle similar to WLTC, JC08 and FTP-75 driving cycles, which is experimental based and are more reflecting the actual driving conditions hence has more representatives comparing to polygonal driving cycles such as NEDC and J10–15 mode driving cycles. It was found that the characteristic of the newly developed driving cycle in Malaysia's urban road system has small relative percentages when compared to the target parameters (whole database) hence it is best represent the driving condition in Kuala Lumpur. The cycle construction methodology proposed in this study is appropriate for developing urban driving cycles, though some improvements need to be considered to increase the representativeness of the driving cycle.","PeriodicalId":185167,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Computational Approach in Smart Systems Design and Applications (ICASSDA)","volume":"281 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124497313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Latterly, the topic that researchers are always looking for is automatic passenger counting on public transport, for example in bus application. The number of people entering and leaving the bus is an important parameter to allocate the correct number of buses for each public transport service connection line. As far as the safety and comfort of the passengers is considered, the bus through which they are travelling should not be overloaded. Moreover, the distribution of existing buses on different routes is the basis for obtaining overall transport network optimization, and to reduce costs. In general, most of the available passenger counting system consists of sensor and counter to count the number of passengers on the public transport. However, the problem faced by this system is inaccurate counting due to fault in the transmission of data from sensor to counter. Therefore, this paper proposes an automatic passenger counting system for fleet management by Using image processing Based on skin colour detection approach. This study aims to increase the efficiency and reliability of bus management system in Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). In order to obtain the number of passenger in the bus, the passenger images have been processed with several image processing techniques which consist of a few steps; (1) colour conversion of RGB to HSV colour image, (2) image segmentation Using thresholding technique, (3) removal of noise or unwanted object, (4) image smoothing and (5) passenger counting process. Overall, experimental results show that the proposed method has successfully segmented and perform the counting of 25 passenger images with average counting accuracy of 90.64%.","PeriodicalId":185167,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Computational Approach in Smart Systems Design and Applications (ICASSDA)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130593575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The complexity of VANET raises concern about the QoS and the reliability of the communication handover which refer to the connectivity and operation of conveying an ongoing call or data session between Vehicles to Vehicles (V2V) and Vehicles to Infrastructure (V2I) in VANET communication mode. This communication faces a huge challenge. The vehicles are moving so fast and highly dynamic that may cause frequent handover which may cause signal delay and communication loss. This paper provides an up-to-date literature of handover schemes for VANET over LTE-A wireless network. A discussion on thumbnail of the key decision parameters to be used in the handover algorithm and comparative summary of selected scheme for VANET over LTE-A concludes this work. This study, thus contributes to the understanding of the available options and gaps for further studies and standardization activities to this area of research.","PeriodicalId":185167,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Computational Approach in Smart Systems Design and Applications (ICASSDA)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125465549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through simulation of accident on the selected roads, 4 cases of study were emphasized to validate the effectiveness of safety incident screens as road barrier, which are current road traffic without accident, accident without incident screen, accident with incident screen (no sign) and accident with incident screen (‘CAUTION’ sign). By adopting chase car method, speed-time data was collected by specifying 200 m of straight road for normal traffic zone and 200 m of rubbernecking zone respectively to assess the vehicle deceleration rate. Results show that the vehicle deceleration rate is higher in rubbernecking zone (up to − 1.71 km/h/s) in comparison with normal traffic zone (up to — 1.55 km/h/s). By setting up safety incident screens, the vehicle deceleration rate is proven to be reduced (as low as — 0.97 km/h/s). The results obtained is anticipated to be benefical in Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) technology as an input for braking capacity exclusively when there is an accident in heavy traffic.","PeriodicalId":185167,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Computational Approach in Smart Systems Design and Applications (ICASSDA)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125194352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is estimated that over 508,000 women worldwide died in 2011 due to breast carcinoma. Nottingham Histological Grading (NHG) system is recognized as the gold standard to provide overall grade for breast carcinoma. One of the breast carcinoma criteria considered in the grading system is tubule formation. The assessment of tubule formation starts with visual inspection on breast histopathological image using 10x magnification. However, not all regions in the image provide meaningful information. Histopathological image with score 3 in tubule formation usually has a small tubule size. Thus, a visual inspection at a higher magnification is required. A continuous inspection at a higher magnification is time consuming. By eliminating the irrelevant regions in the histopathological image, histopathologist can focus on the relevant region for further examination. This study proposed a simple method to detect relevant region on the breast histopathological images using landscape analysis. The proposed method was tested using three groups of histopathological images: Group 1: relevant and irrelevant regions, Group 2: relevant regions only and Group 3: irrelevant regions only. The proposed method is found to be effective in eliminating irrelevant regions as the overall accuracy for Groups 1, 2 and 3 are 86.6%, 100.0% and 100.0%, respectively.","PeriodicalId":185167,"journal":{"name":"2018 International Conference on Computational Approach in Smart Systems Design and Applications (ICASSDA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122851192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
