The extent of cardiac injury is associ - ated with the inflammation and the reperfusion damage. An overly long inflammatory phase can cause sustained myocardial damage and improper healing, leading to remodelling and ventricular dilatation. We sought to elucidate whether proinflammatory proteins, cytokines and adhesion molecules that participate in the processes of inflammation, ischaemia-reperfusion injury and postmyocardial left ventricular remodelling are associated with the major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) (all-cause mortality or AMI) during the two-year follow-up. Material and methods: It is a prospective analysis of patients with AMI admitted to the cardiology ward who underwent PCI between December 2018 and April 2019. The Luminex Multiplex Assay was used to measure serum biomarker concentrations (Bio-Plex System 200, Bio-Rad, USA), and the data were analysed using Bio-Plex Manager Software. Results: The median age was 66 (58–74), and 31.8% were women. The end-point was reached in 53 (37.9%) patients. Multivariate analysis found that serum pentraxin-3 [odds ratio (OR) 1.295 (1.175–1.443), p < 0.001] and E-selectin [OR 1.539 (1.151–2.265), p = 0.03] concentrations were associated with MACE. Conclusions: Higher pentraxin and E-selectin serum concentrations are independently associated with all-cause mortality or myocardial infarction in the analysed population during the two-year follow-up.","PeriodicalId":18485,"journal":{"name":"Medical Research Journal","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139233005","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and methods: In all volunteers, body weight, body height, and waist circumference were measured and a waist-to-height ratio 0.5 (WHT.5R) was calculated. Of all volunteers, only those with WHT.5R ≤ 0.726 were included in further procedures (132 males, 162 females). Circulating glucose, insulin, triacylglycerol, total cholesterol, and HDL-cholesterol were determined. Plasma concentrations of non-HDL-cholesterol and HOMA-IR were calculated. Results: In the male group, there was a significantly higher percentage of participants with disturbed lipid profiles, with 20.4% and 28.0% for TC and non-HDL-C, respectively compared to females (13.0% and 9.9%, respectively). No sex-related differences were noted in the percentage of participants with disturbed circulating HDL-C, glucose, and HOMA-IR. Pronounced metabolic disturbances were noted despite WHT.5R values that did not exceed the established cut-off. Conclusions: In the study population, WHT.5R turned out not to be a reliable index of metabolic disturbances and health risks. However, WHT5.R showed sex-related differences in metabolic profile and confirmed lower metabolic risk in female compared to male students.","PeriodicalId":18485,"journal":{"name":"Medical Research Journal","volume":"49 37","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134902663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This case study estimated the PMI of a female corpse that was found in an advanced stage of decomposition in an apartment in Amman, Jordan (Archives of Qararak database of the Jordanian Bar Association). In contrast to the perpetrator’s alleged PMI of 19 days, the analysis of the entomological data suggests a minimum PMI of 10 days. This result does not support a conviction for assault leading to death but intentional homicide. This case study assures the potential of forensic entomology in criminal investigations in Jordan.","PeriodicalId":18485,"journal":{"name":"Medical Research Journal","volume":"51 36","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134901690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
