It is characterized by the excess increase of fat tissue. The main causes of obesity are insufficient amount of physical activity and overdosing of energy delivered with food. The purpose of this paper is the assessment of skinfold thickness and the percentage of fat tissue content in women between 50 and 80 years of age. 1215 female inhabitants of Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship participated in the study and were divided into 6 age groups in 5-year divisions. The skinfold thickness was assessed and the percentage of fat tissue content was calculated. The measurements were made with the skinfold caliper. All tested women in the respective age groups, according to BMI index, were overweight, whereas the percentage of fat tissue content was over 40% in all groups. In 65-69 age bracket there is an increase of all tested parameters, whereas in women above 70 years of age a visible decrease of measured skinfold thickness values is observed as well as reduction of proportional fat tissue content.","PeriodicalId":18339,"journal":{"name":"Medical and Biological Sciences","volume":"19 1","pages":"19-24"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-02-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90074493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Issues of the research have been defined by the question: Were the body composition and efficiency of the researched women changed under the influence of step-aerobics, and if so, how big those changes were? The study group consisted of 30 women aged 23-38 years, regularly attending the fitness classes of step-aerobics three times a week, lasting 45 minutes. Based on the measurements of height and weight BMI was calculated. Body composition was determined using the analyser TANITA. Cooper test was also conducted. Its purpose was to determine the maximum aerobic capacity (i.e. Oxygen uptake VO2max), which is a determinant of physical condition. Based on the analysis of the results, the following conclusions were drawn: 1.Step-aerobic has a positive effect on the body composition. The period of four-month training with frequency of 3 times a week caused: body weight loss by 3.86%, decrease of BMI values on average by 3.83%, reduction of the body fat levels on average by 17.75%, increase of muscles mass on average by 2.21%. 2. Participation in class step-aerobics brings significant benefits associated with the level of efficiency. The period of four-month training with a frequency of 3 times a week caused an increase of women efficiency participating in this form of female fitness, on average by 17.31% (Cooper test results).","PeriodicalId":18339,"journal":{"name":"Medical and Biological Sciences","volume":"11 1","pages":"81-86"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74224056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Influence of physical training on an individual development is a function of its intensity and consistency. The aim of this research was to present influence of sports training, peculiar to a given sports discipline, on competitors’ habitual posture. Material and method. Measurement of 35 spatial features of habitual body posture, with a use of the photogrammetric method, carried out among 151 competitors representing a variety of sports disciplines: judo, wrestling, volleyball, football, and fencing. Results. A habitual posture peculiar to each sports discipline was described and importance of differences between features of habitual posture of people not doing qualified sports was established. Conclusions. (1) Condition of people who do qualified sports may depend on knowledge, skills and responsiveness of a trainer. Diagnostics of body posture may be a crucial criterion in evaluating load applied in asymmetric sports. It enables correction of training methods. It is advisable to provide competitors with versatile training and improve balance between specific groups of muscles, especially in asymmetric disciplines; (2) regular medical examination should become the basis in selecting new entrants in sports clubs; (3) body posture disorders of adult competitors may result from absence of holistic training and inaccuracy in the initial stage of training, incorrect warm-up, and lack of exercises shaping the habit of correct body posture.","PeriodicalId":18339,"journal":{"name":"Medical and Biological Sciences","volume":"13 1","pages":"57-66"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86816817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Proper lifestyle should be determined by application of the principles of proper nutrition combined with regular physical activity. The human body works better when it is subjected to daily physical activity and a proper diet. Our social norms, i.e. majority of people lead sedentary lifestyle, lead to improper expression of our genes that results in the development of chronic diseases, referred to as diseases of civilization. The aim of the study was to evaluate the consumption of confectionery by people exercising in the Fit-Max fitness centre in Bydgoszcz as well as respondents’ motivation to undertake physical activity. The study showed that those exercising in Fit-Max were characterized by high physical activity:they attend classes seven days a week on average and devote from 1 to 3 hours per day for a training session selecting different forms of activity. Their main objective is weight loss, improved muscle strength, fitness and better well-being. Respondents have a wide knowledge of the principles of nutrition; however, they do not follow them in everyday life. Only a small number of respondents use restrictive diets. Although BMI of some of the surveyed indicates overweight and obesity according to the subjective assessment, there are respondents who claim that their body build is within the norm. The respondents admit to regular and frequent consumption of confectionery products due to a number of various reasons, despite the performance of physical activity. Although most respondents did not feel remorse after consumption of sweets, they have reduced the amount of food assortment in favour of increased physical activity due to the increase in body weight.","PeriodicalId":18339,"journal":{"name":"Medical and Biological Sciences","volume":"48 1","pages":"31-39"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78572726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the study was determining the impact of physical activity in the correction ‘Keep your body straight’ program on incorrect body postures in children aged 7-9 years. The study included 1864 children. The children participated in corrective activities within the ‘Keep your body straight’ program. Methodology of carrying out the analysis involved the measurement of physiological spinal curvatures and torso verticality in the habitual posture using a photogrammetric method in six half-year editions under the 3-year research program. Gender-based differences are statistically insignificant as regards: the inclination angle of the thoracic-lumbar spine (Beta) and the upper thoracic spine (Gamma), depth of lumbar lordosis (GLL-), depth of thoracic kyphosis (GKP), thoracic kyphosis length (DKP), height (RKP) and angle (KKP), lumbar lordosis length (DLL), height (RLL) and angle (KLL), torso flexion angle (KPT-). Statistically significant differences concerned: the inclination angle of the lumbar-sacral spine (Alfa), the sum of partial angles Delta (Alfa, Beta, Gamma) and torso extension angle (KPT). Conclusions Corrective activities in the ‘Keep your body straight’ program combined with education of parents are effective means in the correction process of body postures concerning physiological spinal curvatures in children aged 7-9 years. Physical activity applied within the program significantly influenced all the features describing lumbar lordosis, thoracic kyphosis and trunk verticality. The effectiveness of the program can be enhanced by an individual approach to every ‘incorrect’ posture in a child, which could not be achieved due to insufficient school funds.","PeriodicalId":18339,"journal":{"name":"Medical and Biological Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"67-72"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85576805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

W latach 2012-2014 w klinice wykonano 39 amputacji konczyn dolnych, na 37 konczynach, u 32 pacjentow leczonych z powodu CLI. Wyniki. Amputacje konczyn dolnych stanowily 39/1282 (3%) wszystkich procedur naczyniowych na tetnicach konczyn dolnych. 49% amputacji dotyczylo przodostopia, 15% podudzia oraz 36% uda; 85% amputacji przeprowadzono na konczynach, ktore wcześniej byly rewaskularyzowane. Średni czas miedzy pierwszym zabie-giem naczyniowym a amputacją konczyny wynosil 99 ± 8-1088 dni. Pacjenci poddani pierwotnej amputacji rzadziej przyjmowali aspiryne (67% vs. 94%; p=0,01) oraz statyny (50% vs. 94%, p=0,002). Pacjenci z amputacją na udzie, w porownaniu z osobami z amputowanym przodostopiem, byli w związku z zabiegiem dluzej hospitalizowani, cześciej mieli rozpoznaną przewleklą niewydolnośc serca (PNS) i nerek (PNN), cześciej palili i rzadziej przebyli udar mozgu. The reason for it frequently confirmed in the literature, is a lack of increase of pupils’ skills, both in physiological and mental area. Thus, we should highlight the need of pedagogical intervention on all stages of school education. The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of selected individual and environmental conditions, e.g. gender, area of exercises and places of residence on physical endurance and fitness of children in school age. The research method was a natural experiment, the main assumption of which was to organize physical education lessons mostly outdoor during the period of two years of experiment duration. Research included 203 primary school children – 102 boys and 101 girls. The experimental group that conducted approximately 65% of lessons outdoor, included 86 pupils. The control group included 117 pupils who exercised the same number of lessons usually indoor (in school rooms). 113 pupils came from urban areas and 90 – from rural areas. To test physical abilities of children International Test of Physical Fitness and Cooper’s test were used. We also determined Fitness Index and Index of Restitution Efficiency. Lessons conducted outdoor positively influenced speed, jumping ability and endurance of children. The results of Index of Restitution Efficiency were improved and the increase of oxygen consumption was observed. Boys demonstrated better endurance and to lower extent better physical fitness as compared with girls. Place of residence was the factor of the lowest significance. We confirmed the need of organizing physical education classes outdoor.
