Two profile pits each were dug in Mgbo-Abaja, Inyimagu and Nkwagu sites. Twenty-seven soil samples were collected from genetic horizons and sent to the laboratory for analysis. Results showed that soils were well drained except in Mgbo-Abaja 002 which was poorly drained. Colour varied from brown (10YR 5/3) to weak red (2.5YR 5/2), brown (10YR 4/3) to red (2.5YR 5/6) and dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/6) to reddish yellow (5YR 7/8) in Mgbo-Abaja, Inyimagu and Nkwagu respectively. Mottles were observed in MgboAbaja and Inyimagu profiles as a result of redoximorphism. Soils were sandy and ranged from 526 – 764 mg/kg. The pH was moderately acidic (5.80 – 6.07); mean values of base saturation (%) was moderate (21.03 – 45.31 %), electrical conductivity was low (< 4.0 dSm-1 ) and exchangeable sodium percent (ESP) was < 15 % except in Nkwagu profile 006. The soils were classified (USDA / WRB) as Typic Kandiaquults / Ferralic Gleysols (Mgbo-Abaja 001), Typic Kandiaquults / Cambic Gleysols (Mgbo-Abaja 002), Typic Kandiaquults / Ferralic Gleysols (Inyimagu 003), Grossarenic Kandiaqualfs / Ferralic Gleysols (Inyimagu 004), Typic Kandiaquults / Ferralic Acrisols (Nkwagu 005) and Grossarenic Kandiaqualfs / Ferralic Acrisols (Nkwagu 006). It is recommended that there should be creation of drainage channels to reduce water logging of sites, employ some management practices like liming, application of biochar technique, organic manure and inorganic fertilizer, which will boost the condition of soils and improve their fertility for arable crop production.","PeriodicalId":182275,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agriculture and Environmental Research","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121985155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

High temperatures and changes in rainfall pattern can cause significant decline in maize yields under rain fed conditions with Africa being one of the worst affected areas. Heat tolerance can be accomplished through genetic management approach. The aim of the research is to assess the extent of variation in tolerance to drought stress and heat tolerant stress and their performance on growth and yield characters. The trials were conducted on genetic analysis of Maize (Zea mays L.) inbred lines under combined (drought and heat stress) conditions. The parental materials comprises eight inbred lines that were crossed in a partial diallel pattern; thereafter, the checks, parents and resultant F1 generations were evaluated at two locations, Kano University of Science and Technology and farmers field at Dambatta local government area Kano state during 2021 dry seasons. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design and replicated three times. The results indicated the crossing of P4 X P9 and P3 X P4 to produce significantly to produce significantly better growth attributes like plant height ear height, plant aspect and grain yield. These parental lines might be used in maize breeding programs in Nigeria as sources of drought and or heat tolerance.","PeriodicalId":182275,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agriculture and Environmental Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130143879","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One hundred day old Broiler chicks were brooded for four weeks and reared for another four weeks; at eight weeks the experimental birds were sold. The data for the study was collected through primary source with the use of farm record.Net farm income and gross margin analysis were used to determine the costs and returns of broiler production for the study, using budgetary technique. The research findings revealed total variable cost of ₦97,400 was incurred during the experiment and fixed cost was ₦2,100 with gross income of ₦162,000 which resulted to net farm income ₦64,600.00 and return to capital of ₦0.40, this indicates that the small scale broiler production was profitable. It was therefore recommended that broiler farmers should increase their flock size, develop the skills of record keeping and self-formulation of quality poultry feed.","PeriodicalId":182275,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agriculture and Environmental Research","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126370700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, it examined the socio economic characteristics of the cocoa farmers in the study area; identified the various technologies practiced by cocoa farmers; ranked the perception of the farmers towards the use of the technologies and examining the major constraints militating against the use of cocoa technologies. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to select sixty (60) respondents in four (4) local government areas namely: Irepodun-Ifelodun LGA; Oye LGA; Ekiti South West LGA and Ise/OrunLGA; which were predominated with cocoa farmers. Technology Perceptive Use Index (TPUI) was employed to access the extent of use of the cocoa technologies by the farmers of which 12.99% of the farmers use cultural maintenance practice to increase production of cocoa and this is most prominent among the farmers in the study area. This is closely followed by the use of fungicides and insecticides and the use of information sources on new methods to improve cocoa production respectively in which 12.91 and 12.56% agreed to these technologies respectively. Moreover, a good number of respondents (11.35%) indicated that adopting all the technologies will definitely boost cocoa production. The least cocoa technology where farmers’ perception is very low is the cutting of the old cocoa trees of which only 4.55% of the respondents indicated its usage. About 28.02% of the respondents identified high cost of adoption as a constraint and this was ranked first among others constraints identified by respondents in the study area.","PeriodicalId":182275,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agriculture and Environmental Research","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126479139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To accomplish this objective, a literature review of several research papers related to the topic was done. Natural enemies of herbivores mainly use herbivore induced plant volatiles (HIPVs) to find their prey or host. However, the chemical information conveyed through HIPVs toward natural enemies might be unreliable or sometimes undetectable for them (odour masking), thereby influencing their searching behaviour. Many factors influence the reliability and detectability of HIPVs such as: plant diversity, intensity of the herbivore attack, if one or more herbivore species attack the plant at the same time or sequentially, and environmental conditions like light intensity, fertilization levels, soil moisture, and high concentrations of ozone, hydroxyl, and nitrate radicals. Nevertheless, in order to overcome reliability and detectability problems of HIPVs, natural enemies have the ability to learn by association and use these HIPVs to find their prey or host. Further field experiments supported by laboratory assessments should be carried out to understand how the searching behaviour of natural enemies is affected in a multitrophic level context, where known biodiversity (above and below ground) and environmental conditions have the possibility to interact.","PeriodicalId":182275,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agriculture and Environmental Research","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128962842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem is that the global demand is increasing and the agricultural production is insufficient. Is reported that Hydroponic cultivation and high irradiance increase the yield of S. rebaudiana and the production of steviol glycosides. This is due to the management and control of nutrition and the effect of light on the photosynthetic system, respectively. Therefore, the objective was to evaluate the effect on three levels of PFD (440.8, 383.9 and 273.2 μmol m-2 s) efficiency of photosystem PSII, and production of glycosides of steviol in S. rebaudiana var. Morita II at 40 and 90 days, using a NFT hydroponic culture (Nutrient Film Technique). The highest photosynthetic rate was recorded at 440.8 μmol m-2 s with 15.4 and 17.72 ppm CO2 min-1 g at 40 and 90 of culture days respectively and the higher content of steviol glycosides, with this same PFD, the lowest fluorescence emission occurred in PSII, while with low luminosity, the absorbed energy was harnessed more efficiently by the PSIIRC. The photosynthesis and production of steviol glycosides in S. rebaudiana were affected by level of PFD and culture time in a hydroponic system.","PeriodicalId":182275,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agriculture and Environmental Research","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121380130","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was conducted in two areas: Cabo Rosa Forest and Tauari Forest with different levels of human disturbances in the municipality of Marabá, Pará, Brazil. A characterization of the descriptors of anthropogenic activities was carried out for each study area in order to generate an index of anthropogenic disturbance. The vegetation structure was classified into: exposed soil, low, medium and high vegetation cover through NDVI. Ant sampling was carried out using pitfall traps. The vegetation structure, diversity and abundance parameters were related to the areas. Similarities between the species composition of the ant communities were verified by a similarity analysis. We found that human disturbances are modifying the vegetation structure by reducing the forest cover of the tree stratum and leaving the landscape with a higher occurrence of open areas. Regarding the ant community, we corroborate the hypothesis that anthropic disturbances are reducing the local biodiversity. Thus, this study shows that anthropogenic disturbances have negative effects on the Amazonian landscape and on the ant community through the reduction of forest cover and decrease in ant biodiversity. These changes can cause the conversion of climax communities in early successional stages and reduce the ecological services provided by ants (e.g. seed dispersal).","PeriodicalId":182275,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Agriculture and Environmental Research","volume":"520 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123054997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
