This is stated first by the understanding that these terms may be vague and hard to define. To tackle this issue, a prescriptive semantic is used, which gives us a qualitative and quantitative starting point to define responsiveness in terms of reactivity an agility time. This is followed by a sports analogy, which gives insight for more ilities. A framework for categorization of these extra ilities is presented, based on detection, interpretation, computation, enforcement and adaptation time. A real case study in manufacturing from a production task (joint bolting) is used. Here, we discuss the initial problem, the solution, the consequences of the solution, with pros (e.g. visibility) and cons (e.g. wrong traceability). A discussion on an improved solution using digital tools is commented, as well as a list of improved ilities compared to the initial case. We finish the paper with a call for peers for more work in ilities using real and concrete examples from the industry.","PeriodicalId":181642,"journal":{"name":"2023 18th Annual System of Systems Engineering Conference (SoSe)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123912579","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dynamic Movement Primitives (DMP) are an elegant and efficient method for learning complex behaviours and representing them as stable, well understood dynamical systems. When applied for encoding a task by considering the behaviour of the end-effector of a robotic manipulator in Cartesian space, the common solution is to represent and to encode the pose separately as position and orientation using different but phase-coupled DMP formulations; resulting mathematically and algorithmically inefficient. Dual Quaternions are a mathematical tool capable of representing pose in a unified variable. Literature shows the interest of such a representation for rigid body kinematics, given its mathematical flexibility, efficiency and robustness. This article presents an existing formulation for Dual Quaternion Dynamic Movement Primitives based on screw theory. Then, we expand on our proposed improved formulation which considers obstacle avoidance as a contribution for the layer of Awareness and Intelligence in the context of Human-Robot Collaboration as a System of Systems.","PeriodicalId":181642,"journal":{"name":"2023 18th Annual System of Systems Engineering Conference (SoSe)","volume":"443 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122482851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, we present in this paper an agent-based modeling (ABM) to supervise the system of systems (SoS) of the harvesting process, considering its static and dynamic representations, in case of changes in goals and mission allocation. Furthermore, we propose the modeling of the agents with an AI approach based on reinforcement learning (RL), a simulation of the mushroom harvesting process has been finally implemented to test the RL approach for each elementary component system (CS) at the low level of the SoS.","PeriodicalId":181642,"journal":{"name":"2023 18th Annual System of Systems Engineering Conference (SoSe)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126809251","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To ease the involved complexity and challenges of System of Systems Engineering (SoSE), this paper summarizes the proposed approach and methodology for conducting architecture analysis of System of Systems (SoS) for resilience, and for assessing the SoS architectures qualitatively and quantitatively for the maturity level of resilience, using Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) as a support. The approach has been arrived at based on a taxonomy of principles that enable resilience in an architecture. Unified Architecture Framework (UAF) is used as a reference for defining the architecture principles, which can be utilized for defining the architecture in MBSE. The Search and Rescue sample model of SoS in UAF Plugin of Cameo Systems Modeler has been both augmented and assessed using the proposed methodology and architecture principles.","PeriodicalId":181642,"journal":{"name":"2023 18th Annual System of Systems Engineering Conference (SoSe)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129526930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the potential benefits of dSES in natural disaster management, their dynamic behavior also poses significant safety challenges due to dynamic interactions that may appear normal but can lead to hazardous situations. Through theoretical analysis of an example of flood management, this paper addresses these challenges and emphasizes the importance of understanding system characteristics to ensure safety. Moreover, it highlights the significance of conducting a thorough assessment of the entire system at various hierarchical levels, taking into account the interdependencies within and among levels, encompassing intra-level, inter-level, and operational aspects, along with technical, organizational, and socio-technical safety complexities.","PeriodicalId":181642,"journal":{"name":"2023 18th Annual System of Systems Engineering Conference (SoSe)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131350064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Concerns are raised about the scientific credibility and adequacy of the existing models to explain human performance in sociotechnical systems. This study aims to address the debate through an epistemological understanding of different modeling approaches and discuss the suitability of each modeling approach for HFE problems in socio-technical systems. We argue that above anything, HFE is a systems discipline and therefore requires systems models and methodologies to support systems view on performance. The dominant outcome-oriented modeling approaches are ill-suited to study the complexity of today's sociotechnical systems. Alternatively, mathematical and simulation modeling can be beneficial in highlighting the inherent complexities, feedback loops, and temporal properties of HFE constructs.","PeriodicalId":181642,"journal":{"name":"2023 18th Annual System of Systems Engineering Conference (SoSe)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123994211","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A deep learning network, which matches one that was successfully used in the past for a classification task, was replicated and used to classify ten categories in the CIFAR10 dataset. This trained network was then altered by replacing the final fully-connected feed-forward network with a new one that was initiated with random weights. Using a new database made up of images labeled with the actions taken by an operator as he remotely drove the robot, the network learned the proper action for each image. In previous work, we reported that this network operating on the actual robot successfully moved through the desired path in the training environment while avoiding obstacles. Now we have expanded this work by showing that the obstacle avoidance control program is generalized enough that it was successful when tested in three environments not seen during training.","PeriodicalId":181642,"journal":{"name":"2023 18th Annual System of Systems Engineering Conference (SoSe)","volume":"128 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127968053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, compatibility of ECSS (European Cooperation for Space Standardization) with the digitalization initiatives is gaining more attention in ESA. ECSS is a European initiative established in 1994 to develop and maintain a “coherent, single set of standards” to support all European space activities. This is reflected in various projects at ESA in which ECSS is analyzed as the reference for space system digitalization projects. From the ECSS standards, ECSS-E-ST-10 is a reference standard for Systems Engineering. The ESA SysML solution is a main project using ECSS specially ECSS-E-ST-10 as the input for Systems Engineering digitalization. This paper will present an analysis of ECSS-E-ST-10 and its compatibility with ESA digitalization. To illustrate this approach, the ESA SysML solution is presented as an implementation case for Systems Engineering standard.","PeriodicalId":181642,"journal":{"name":"2023 18th Annual System of Systems Engineering Conference (SoSe)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130511380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It includes de-risking integration challenges, when sub-systems are combined for the future integration into a system-of-systems (SoS). At the same time, introducing MBSE into organizations is a complex process and must be planned with care. This paper outlines and illustrates how to create a plan of step-wise MBSE introduction into a company. It reflects our experience obtained during a specialized project within a company that produces software-intensive healthcare equipment. We argue that an MBSE introduction can be structured along fundamental model properties and organizational aspects. Each consecutive step aims to bring value to the organization and builds on a solid implementation of a previous step, such as to develop trust in the model-based way of working. We account for modeling dimensions (i.e., scope, utilization, design aspects, and structure/behavior) that shape the content of each step. Furthermore, we design each step in line with an organizational change framework that accounts for process, people, and technology topics. We illustrate the approach focusing on interface management as a starting point. This paper represents our view and is for discussion. Additional research on different concerns, SoS types and their specifics, as well as needs of individual companies is required to validate and evaluate this method further.","PeriodicalId":181642,"journal":{"name":"2023 18th Annual System of Systems Engineering Conference (SoSe)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125464444","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
