This paper aims to present a simple method to control a seven-segment display using only one control pin without the need for any complex communication protocol. This method is implemented using RC filter, combinational logic circuit, flash converter, and a BCD to seven segment encoder and tested using Arduino Uno. This work can ease the use of seven-segment displays by reducing the number of control pins needed and this method could be developed in the future to be implemented as a working module.","PeriodicalId":181607,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 3rd International Multidisciplinary Conference on Engineering Technology (IMCET)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126032820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Modeling and building simulation have expanded to cover different modeling approaches i.e.: detailed physical model, dynamic classical empirical models and hybrid approaches, which are adopted by various simulation tools. This paper uses DesignBuilder with EnergyPlus simulation engine in order to; first, study the impact of efficiency measures on building energy behavior by comparing Low energy residential apartment to a conventional one in Beirut-Lebanon. Second, choose the appropriate energy systems for the studied case characterized by an important cooling demand. Third, study dynamic modeling of Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system in EnergyPlus that is chosen due to its advantages over other systems and its availability in the Lebanese market. Finally concluding that simulation of different energy systems models with different modeling approaches is necessary to investigate the interaction between energy systems and building envelope that affects the total energy consumption of Low Energy buildings.","PeriodicalId":181607,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 3rd International Multidisciplinary Conference on Engineering Technology (IMCET)","volume":"271 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115112525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ever-increasing attempts to exploit the benefits of CAES were strongly encouraged by the versatility of combinations in which CAES can be implemented. The intent of this paper is to present a Mixed-Integer Non-Linear Programming (MINLP) mathematical model that demonstrates the potential benefits of combining adiabatic CAES, Phase Change Materials (PCM) heat storage and renewable wind energy for electrical power production in a gas turbine. The mathematical model aims at minimizing fuel consumption and reducing renewable energy curtailment by providing optimal decisions for charging and discharging the CAES and Latent Heat Storage (LHS) systems, while meeting a variety of technical constraints. The proposed model could be developed in future research to serve as a planning tool in electrical power systems.","PeriodicalId":181607,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 3rd International Multidisciplinary Conference on Engineering Technology (IMCET)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123674154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it suffers from important limitations: tremendous search space, energy scores inaccuracy, and consequently the large number of decoys which are needed to be generated. Taking advantage of the different protein sequence-structure complexity shown by the various types of secondary structure, - using Rosetta - we propose to customize the diversity of fragments for each region of the conformation being built. By eventually reducing the size of search space, this approach permits better exploitation of promising areas. Experiments demonstrate the value of the proposed strategy: compared to standard Rosetta's performance in terms of first model, accuracy improves significantly (~6%), respectively drastically (~24%), when using 20,000, resp. 2,000, decoy-based predictions. Furthermore, performance using 2,000 decoys is equivalent to that of standard Rosetta using 20,000 decoys, which means that predictions can be executed on a standard PC instead of a highperformance computing system.","PeriodicalId":181607,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 3rd International Multidisciplinary Conference on Engineering Technology (IMCET)","volume":"350 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123223758","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

IoT created many challenges as the services response time requirements have grown more strict and urged the need for faster means of communications and computation processing. To solve this problem, fog computing has emerged to serve IoT devices at closer distances than cloud computing. In this paper, we leverage the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) mounted cloudlets to provide computation offloading opportunities to IoT devices while meeting the latency constraints. We aim at deploying the minimum number of UAVs to serve the maximum number of IoT devices within their deadlines subject to communication and computation constraints. We first formulate the problem as a multi-objective optimization problem which can be shown to be mixed-integer non-linear program (MINLP) and is NP-hard. We then propose a heuristic sub-optimal approach based on genetic algorithm (GA) to decide on the minimum number of UAVs to be deployed and the IoT-to-UAV association. Simulation results demonstrated the efficiency of the proposed approach under different system parameters and constraints in minimizing the number of UAVs while maximizing the number of served IoT devices.","PeriodicalId":181607,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 3rd International Multidisciplinary Conference on Engineering Technology (IMCET)","volume":"142 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129007037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Quick feasibility assessment of various NoC structures demands the availability of high abstraction level simulation tools. However, existing NoC simulator solutions are either too slow to address the functional simulation of real-life applications or not flexible enough to allow NoC-based design space exploration. Furthermore, the necessity to run the application tasks while observing the data-dependent traffic is often missing. In this regard, the simulation tools modeling NoC interconnection structures have to cope with various NoC parameters and allow easy modeling of applications. In addition, these tools should be cycle-accurate and provide flexibility and capability of configuration and customization. This paper addresses the requirements of NoC simulator that enable rapid design and verification of NoC-based systems. It illustrates the design experience using flexible cycle-accurate NoC simulator to implement and verify emergent applications.","PeriodicalId":181607,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 3rd International Multidisciplinary Conference on Engineering Technology (IMCET)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130494866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the replacement of internal combustion engine by electric motor is a great advantage toward environment. The investigation of hybrid fuel cell-battery system is highly attractive for the drive electric vehicle. Such hybridization improves power quality, allows for quick fuel cell start-up, has a favorable impact on the fuel cell's life cycle, increases fuel cell efficiency, and raises the system reliability and efficiency of motoring and regenerative braking. Moreover, multilevel inverters play an essential role in terms of lower switching action, total harmonic distortion, and smoother output voltage which enhances the performance of the motor. Basically, multilevel output voltage can be produced by a different structure of classical inverter integrated with an open-end winding induction motor configuration. Such configuration is characterized by simplicity of structure and control. Moreover, it overcomes the problem of zero-sequence components and protects the motor from failure. This paper reviews briefly the configurations of open-end winding drive system for hybrid electric vehicle which allow the combination of fuel cell with other DC sources.","PeriodicalId":181607,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 3rd International Multidisciplinary Conference on Engineering Technology (IMCET)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126586831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper explores the connection of large Photovoltaic (PV) power plant to the grid using an HVDC link. A maximum power point tracking (MPPT) utilizing perturb and observe (P&O) technique while controlling the opening and closing of the GTO switch of a conventional (DC-DC) boost chopper. Then a three phase 3 levels inverter based on 12-pulse GTO bridges converter relying on PWM command will allow the conversion of the boost output into 3 phase AC while using an LCL filter to reduce the harmonics content and limiting the ripple current. A transformer will allow to increase the voltage level of the inverter output, following it by a 12-pulse rectifier based on Space Vector PWM (SVPWM) control including PI controllers used to regulate the DC link voltage. The grid integration will be insured by a 3 phase 3-Levels inverter, controlled to assure a synchronization with the grid. An Orthogonal Multiple Access Multiple Relay Channel (OMAMRC) is considered in the paper, where several nodes cooperate to send their messages to a single destination (typical uplink context in traditional wireless networks). The destination, as a central node, schedules the cooperative re-transmissions and allocates the transmission rates to the sources. The Link Adaptation (LA) is designed to optimize the spectral efficiency of the system. In our previous work, two LA algorithms were studied: Slow LA (SLA) and Fast LA (FLA). SLA relies on the Channel Distribution Information (CDI) of all links at the destination, while FLA relies on the Channel State Information (CSI) of all links. Clearly, SLA is less demanding in terms of channel information acquisition control overhead while FLA provides closer-to-optimum scheduling decisions. In this work, we propose and analyze a novel practical link adaptation algorithm combining the benefits of both. It is based on a FLA strategy with partial CSI. Our numerical results show that the proposed algorithm achieves a spectral efficiency that is close to the one achieved by FLA while demanding less CSI acquisition control overhead.","PeriodicalId":181607,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 3rd International Multidisciplinary Conference on Engineering Technology (IMCET)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115853122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
