Vari-ous substances are used for this purpose: lyotropic and thermotropic liquid crystals, photoanisotropic materials, anisotropic scattering or anisotropic fluorescent materials and other media. The greatest interest from the practical application point of view for displays and elements for information protection are polarizers and patterned structures based on lyotropic liquid crystals as well as photoanisotropic materials based on photochemically stable substances and anisotropic luminescence media.","PeriodicalId":18138,"journal":{"name":"Liquid Crystals and their Application","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44327918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was found that the resulting mixtures with a continuous solid solution belong to isomorphic systems of the Rozeboom type I and exhibit nematic mesomorphism at any ratio of components. Upon cooling to room temperature, the LC mixtures were vitrified with the preservation of the me-sophase packing. Using the orienting substrates, a planar-oriented film material based on an LC mixture containing 10 mol. % of PFO and 90 mol. % of the Eu(CPDk 3-5 ) 3 Bpy 17-17 complex was created. The dichroic ratio of photoluminescence R (it is the ratio of the luminescence intensities at 0º and 90º) of the obtained material is 5.4 at a ≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡≡ wavelength of 438 nm and 3.2 at a wavelength of 613 nm. It was found that the obtained film materials are capable of changing the luminescence color from light red to dark blue, depending on the UV irradiation wavelength or upon changing the angle between the polarizer plane and the molecular orientation direction. Thus, the possibility of obtaining oriented films of lanthanide-containing liquid-crystal mixtures with controlled polarization and luminescence color has been shown.","PeriodicalId":18138,"journal":{"name":"Liquid Crystals and their Application","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47939204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The stationary regime of rotation of ferrocholesteric helix in the uniform magnetic field is analyzed. A system of integro-differential equations defining the orientation of liquid crystalline and magnetic subsystems and the critical parameters at the ferrocholesteric – ferronematic transition point with a finite coupling energy is obtained in the continuum theory. The orientation phase diagram of the ferrocholesteric – ferronematic transition at different values of the magnetic field strength and angular rotation velocity, coupling energy and magnetic field influence parameter is obtained for the stationary regime of rotation. It is shown that the critical threshold of the ferrocholesteric – ferronematic transition decreases as the coupling energy and the field influence parameter increase. The helix unwinding in the dipole mode is the most effective, as in the static case.","PeriodicalId":18138,"journal":{"name":"Liquid Crystals and their Application","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49180413","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A decay flow of the liquid crystal arising under the action of DC electric field and hydrostatic pressure gradient was experimentally realized and studied by the registration of meniscus’ motion in the vertically oriented cylindrical capillary. The dependences of the maximal value of the meniscus’ rise and characteristic decay time on the control voltage have been obtained. The analysis of the experimental data was performed in the framework of a simple model, taking into account the dependence of dielectric permittivity on the electrically controlled orientation of LC. The value of zeta potential as well as the effective shear viscosities at different voltages were determined. The obtained data were compared with the results of independent studies.","PeriodicalId":18138,"journal":{"name":"Liquid Crystals and their Application","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2021-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46771243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
