Various methods have been proposed for grass simulation, for example, Boulanger and his colleagues render realistic grass in real-time with dynamic lighting, shadows and animations. Till now, few approaches have investigated the realistic simulation of withering grassland which is still a big challenge in computer graphics, due to the great complexity of both geometry and withering mechanism. In our work, a novel concept called Time-Varying Texels (TVT) is proposed to extend the static texel[Kajiya and Kay 1989] and make it time-serialized. In a grass TVT structure, time-dependent texels are arranged hierarchically in a Time-Space Partitioning (TSP) tree, so that the grass withering process can be efficiently approximated, with acceptable spatial and temporal errors. In this way we facilitate LOD rendering. Traditional texel structures could hardly undertake physical based calculation in each grass blade, so we introduce a point based structure (PBS) to increase the flexibility. Dynamic processes such as geometric deformation and material transformation can be achieved on PBS during the whole withering procedure. Additionally, by clustering the pre-computed TVT samples in low densities using a mingling algorithm, we obtain high-density grass TVT so as to significantly improve the efficiency of TVT generation.","PeriodicalId":180587,"journal":{"name":"ACM SIGGRAPH Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques in Asia","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125177399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently [Farbman et al. 2009] introduced an alternative which exploits the Mean-Value Coordinates (MVC) rather than solving a large linear system to perform a weighted sum of values along the boundary. It demonstrated result as good as that of the earlier techniques in a remarkably short time and ease of implementation. Seamless video object cloning was also discussed in [Farbman et al. 2009], where they used a simple exponential decay of the previous frames. In this paper, we propose an improved MVC algorithm in the two aspects. First, we provide an alternative sampling algorithm which make it possible to handle concave regions that were problematic in [Farbman et al. 2009]. And we propose more effective temporal smoothing method for video cloning than a simple exponential decay method. Our method is not only fast enough to carry out interactive video cloning, but also it can reduce temporally noticeable seams of video.","PeriodicalId":180587,"journal":{"name":"ACM SIGGRAPH Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques in Asia","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128381534","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Back in 1993, the environmental tourism consultant Green Flag International reported that more than 40 million holiday brochures were thrown away unread [The Independent Travel 1993]. Till date, the most worrying aspect of the brochure industry is still the continuing treatment of its product as a 'free good', which eventually turns out to be paper waste. It is undeniable that paper can be recycled, but however, recycling is not as environmentally sustainable as reuse [Blevis 2008]. During touring activity, each brochure paper is used only once and it usually lasts throughout the touring period. Furthermore, an ordinary brochure paper can easily be torn or got wet especially during rainy days and becomes fragile. Considering the above downsides of using an ordinary brochure paper, we study and explore the sustainability use of flexible transparent display to blend various brochure aspects seamlessly into touring activity and subsequently design an interactive eco-friendly brochure for cultural heritage touring activity, called Green-i.","PeriodicalId":180587,"journal":{"name":"ACM SIGGRAPH Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques in Asia","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-12-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128404649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
