The novel portrays the female protagonist, X, with a dissociative identity disorder and a sense of self-fragmentation, a generic case of many women struggling to define their identities in patriarchal societies. X’s dissociative identity forces her to live a fragmented life. She demonstrates signs of loss of interest, a manifestation of self-fragmentation, relational difficulties, and a desire for death. The novel is analyzed through psychoanalytic and postcolonial theories to define concepts of identity, dissociative identity disorder, and self-fragmentation. The textual analysis reveals that, within the socio-religious fabric of a patriarchal society, a female’s social/personal identity structure is restricted and psychologically confused. The dominant patriarchal system is destructive to the female’s personal identity and her quest for achieving selfhood and independence. The female protagonist’s attempt to balance her social/personal identities becomes fluid. She negotiates her social spaces in her attempt to resist a socially bound and labeled identity that stigmatizes a woman’s existence as a self.","PeriodicalId":180368,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123075660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study grouped those difficulties into two main categories, namely academic skills difficulties and language skills difficulties. It has been noticed that undergraduate and postgraduate students lack the required skills enabling them to conduct a well-constructed research article, which sparkles the idea of this study. In addition, no previous study has examined the challenges encountered by Jordanian EFL students when conducting a research paper in general and the problem statement section in particular. To collect the required data of the present study, twenty Jordanian EFL students had a teaching program about research writing skills. They were introduced thoroughly to all sections of the research article, with special emphasis on the research problem, section which is the main concern of this study. The participants were given a month to accomplish their research papers before submission. The study results reveal that the participants lack the academic skills enabling them to conduct a well-constructed problem statement section. More specifically, the vast majority of the participants fail to provide an overview of their topics and to identify their research gap within the current literature. The study also shows that the participants face serious grammatical errors when writing the research problem section. It could be concluded that conducting a scholarly research article in general and problem statement, in particular, is a demanding issue and need to be further highlighted by researchers and academicians to identify the challenges facing learners.","PeriodicalId":180368,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences","volume":"16 9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125765938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study sample consisted of 731 students. A scale was developed, consisting of 45 items. The validity and reliability of the scale were assured; using the Factor Analysis procedure, the results showed a one-factor present in the performance on this scale. Also, the scree plot assured this result. In addition, the result showed a moderately positive attitude towards distance learning; teacher and student interaction was encouraging. Also, the results showed no statistically significant difference between the arithmetic means attributed to student gender. Thus, students’ attitudes and opinions favored distance learning. This study may provide feedback to decision-makers at the university to reveal the distance learning challenges facing them. The outcomes will help students and administrators make decisions concerning these challenges and how to overcome them to implement a successful e-learning system at the university.","PeriodicalId":180368,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116797764","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In relation, the organization will also suffer and its constituents along the way. This study assessed the demographic profile and the degree of procrastination among selected employees from a higher education institution in Central Luzon, Philippines. The study used a descriptive-correlational design with an adapted questionnaire from McCkloskey (2011) as an instrument. A total of 70 individuals took part in the survey, wherein the researcher used convenience sampling. The study found that the administrative office and faculty respondents were equal in number; they belong to the age bracket of 21-30 years old; dominated by males, and are single with 1-5 years in service. Also, based on their response, the respondents often subject themselves to procrastination. In addition, there was also an indirect relationship between procrastination and civil status. Furthermore, regression analysis determined that age and civil status is a significant predictor of procrastination. Based on the aforementioned results, the researcher concluded that certain demographic profiles determine the procrastination of an employee. Lastly, the study provided some pertinent recommendation which will benefit both the employees and the organization.","PeriodicalId":180368,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124118413","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
