Our method is a simple implementation of spatially resolved equalization (SRE) that doubles the bandwidth of MMF links. Using an overfilled launch condition, we exploit the spatial diversity of the optical signal emitted from the MMF. We use a SRE detector, an InGaAs metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) device placed 400 /spl mu/m from the fiber end.","PeriodicalId":18008,"journal":{"name":"LEOS 2001. 14th Annual Meeting of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society (Cat. This has led to a paradigm shift in optical frequency metrology by replacing complex frequency chains with a single modelocked laser. It has also enabled the first generation of optical clocks. It promises to have future impact on ultrafast physics, particularly extreme nonlinear optics and coherent control. The basic concepts for self-reference detection and stabilization of modelocked lasers are presented. Recent measurements using this technique are reviewed and the time domain implications demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":18008,"journal":{"name":"LEOS 2001. 14th Annual Meeting of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society (Cat. The array is considered to be two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal, and a photonic band gap has been confirmed (Masuda et al, 1999 and 2000). Fabrication of point defects or line defects in an alumina nanohole array is an attractive approach to achieve a functional photonic crystal-like photonic band-gap laser. Selective injection of nanoholes with functional polymer enables us to obtain such point defects. In this paper, we demonstrate the fabrication of functional defects in an alumina nanohole array by selective polymer injection and emission from the defect level in the photonic band gap.","PeriodicalId":18008,"journal":{"name":"LEOS 2001. 14th Annual Meeting of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society (Cat. We present results for a planar direct-bonded double-clad waveguide comprised of a Tm:YAG core, undoped YAG inner-cladding, and sapphire outer-cladding layers. The YAG/sapphire numerical aperture is sufficient to capture most of the highly divergent radiation of a laser diode, thus allowing a side-pumped arrangement with two proximity-coupled /spl lambda//sub p/=785 nm, 20 W diode bars. This simple and efficient pumping scheme, combined with the thin waveguide dimension, leads to a high pumping intensity, as required for efficient operation of quasi-three-level laser systems.","PeriodicalId":18008,"journal":{"name":"LEOS 2001. 14th Annual Meeting of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society (Cat.
