Clinical trials have shown SDF to be an easy to use, effective and safe topical agent with no significant adverse effects [1-4]. As a result, SDF is positioned as an efficient and equitable caries control agent that can be used to help meet the WHO Millenium oral health goals and fulfil the US Institute of Medicine’s criteria for 21st-Century medical care [1-4]. Nevertheless, the resulting black staining following topical application of SDF, as well as the fluoride concentration, potential toxicity and chemical stability of silver fluoride compounds have all been commonly reported as barriers for SDF use [1,5-7]. In an attempt to overcome the unsightly black stain, use of potassium iodide (KI) immediately following SDF application has been advocated [8]. However, to date, there is limited literature investigating the fluoride release from SDF, and to our knowledge, there are no reports investigating the effect of KI application on fluoride release [9]. Therefore, this study sought to compare the fluoride leachate profiles of 38% SDF, 38% SDF with Potassium Iodide (SDF+KI), 5% sodium fluoride varnish (NaF) and 0.32% fluoridated toothpaste (FTP). Furthermore, as fluoride release has been shown to vary depending on pH, a secondary objective of this study was to evaluate the fluoride leachate profiles of the aforementioned agents in neutral, acidic and basic artificial saliva to better reflect the oral environment.","PeriodicalId":179841,"journal":{"name":"Modern Research in Dentistry","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128433972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The management of pain is particularly critical in children and adolescents. Intraoperative dental pain can usually be removal by local anesthesia. Postoperative dental pain is largely ignored. Postoperative pain emerges from the activation of many passageways, transmission and mechanism process. One type of analgesic often fails to repress all these mechanisms, even when high dose is used [1]. although, treatment of pain, in general is a challenge, there is no reason to assume that pain treatment after surgery is not achievable. Several clinical studies investigated that photobiomodulation (PBM) effect to prevent pain or swelling after the third molars removal and surgical procedures as well as to reduce post-orthodontic pain, while some studies reported beneficial effects of PBM, others showed no [2] PBM it is a light therapy using low-level power lasers to improve wound repair and reduce postoperative pain, that utilizes non-ionizing forms of light origin, broadband light, in the visible and infrared spectrums [3]. There is a so-called optical window in tissue, known as the most depth of penetration in soft tissues through a laser beam, the wavelength is between 650 and 1200nm [4]. PBM can relieve pain and swelling after the surgical procedure, by making a positive effect on the immune response and stimulate lymphatic flow [5]. In addition to the ability of the PBM to stimulate blood circulation, which helps to increase the ability to absorb antibiotic in the body, the PBM has many features, including improvement and remodeling of collagen in the treatment of wounds [6]. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is one of the most potent and known stimulators of angiogenesis, showing the ability to induce vascular permeability [2], besides the proliferation and migration of endothelial cells, essential steps for the development of new blood vessels [3]. Other growth factors essential for vascular formation are the angiopoietins (ANG), among which ANG-1 and ANG-2 are the most known and best characterized [4]. In contrast to VEGF, angiopoietins are angiogenic mediators whose action does not induce mitotic activity in endothelial cells [5]. Despite their biological activities not being completely elucidated, it is known that ANG-1 is constantly secreted in situations of vascular quiescence, as well as during the process of vascular maturation, a later step in angiogenesis [5,6]. Besides, ANG-1 acts as an anti-inflammatory cytokine [4]. On the other hand, ANG-2, despite showing affinity for the same Tie-2 receptor of ANG-1, does not phosphorylate it, thus exerting an antagonistic effect of ANG-1 [4], destabilizing the vascular endothelium, which causes the regression of neoformed vessels and apoptosis in endothelial Crimson Publishers Wings to the Research Research Article","PeriodicalId":179841,"journal":{"name":"Modern Research in Dentistry","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114656862","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Frameworks have been conventionally performed by a casting protocol in the laboratory through cast-on abutments [3]. Cast prosthesis could be cement or screw retained. Nowadays these prostheses can be made using CAD-CAM4; [4] however, an alternative way of performing these prostheses is by RCR with access channel [5,6]. This provides passive adjustment and retrievability. Passive prosthesis fit is one of the most important factors for correct implant and prostheses performance [7]. Misfit is the main problem, the product of several factors that occur during the manufacture of the cast prosthesis, such as distortion of the dental impression, distortion of the master cast, distortion during the casting [8]. For example, these can result in bone loss, loosening of the screw, and fractures [9]. In comparison, the RCR appears to have a better passive fit because the superstructure is cemented to titanium abutments, which have perfect fit, and the cement absorbs and distributes the occlusal force more efficiently [10-13]. Further maintain the retrievability due to access channel. Some studies have performed in vitro tests of RCR, single-unit implant crown [14,15], three unit [10], and complete-arch framework [6]. These demonstrated that RCR produce a better biomechanical performance as they present a better passive fit and stress distribution; thus, the objective of the present study is to deepen the knowledge of the RCR with access channel through a finite element study. Several types of anticoagulants are available, the old generation including, but not limited to Vitamin K antagonist, Unfractionated Heparin (UH) and Low Molecular Weight Heparins (LMWH) [1-3]. UH and LMWH have several drawbacks, such as: injectable administration and need to follow designated protocols assessing specific tests and dosage adjustments, whenever a bleeding oral intervention is required [1,2,4]. Vitamin K antagonists also have limitations because their absorption is influenced by the patient’s diet [5]. The old generation of oral anticoagulants have a more global action over the coagulation factors, and a less specific action on certain coagulation factors. Thus, the introduction of the new oral anticoagulants (NOACs) in 2008 was well received, given their specific design of counteracting the limitations of traditional anticoagulants [2,4]. NOACs target specific coagulation factors, either thrombin (Factor IIa) or Factor Xa [6]. The first drugs introduced of this class were thrombin inhibitors, thrombin being the key enzyme in the coagulation cascade [6,7]. The representative of this class is Dabigatran, a drug mainly used for preventing systemic embolism and stroke in patients with valvular atrial fibrillation [7]. On the other hand, Factor Xa inhibitors directly bind to the site of Factor Xa, thus blocking the common pathway of coagulation [8]. The first approved drugs were Apixaban and Rivaroxaban, with the addition of a more recent entry, Edoxaban [6,9]. The main disadvantage of NOACs is that their activity is difficult to monitor [10]. They are commonly used as restorative materials in pediatric dentistry, as lining and base, fissure sealants and atraumatic restorative treatment (ART) materials. Meanwhile, White Portland Cement has undergone many investigations to determine if it can be a desirable endodontic material as an alternative to the established White Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA). Biocompatibility is one of an ideal properties’ criteria for dental materials. It is an important properties to have because they come into contact with dental tissues and may affect the tissue response following the placement of the material into the oral cavity. Hence, the testing on the biocompatibility of any dental material is necessary to ensure that the material is safe for use. Cytotoxicity is one of the methods to investigate a material’s biocompatibility. A broad range of in vitro cytotoxicity assays have been developed to evaluate the biocompatibility of various biomaterials. Among these are (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, agar diffusion test, filter diffusion, and pulp and dentine usage tests [13]. Since there are a few methods available for use, it should be borne in mind that the most appropriate method must be selected based on the type and intended use of the sample being evaluated. Apart from that, the availability of equipment in laboratories is another factor to be considered.","PeriodicalId":179841,"journal":{"name":"Modern Research in Dentistry","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123691445","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bio sciences provide a scientific basis for understanding disease and making sound clinical decisions. Though the students recognize the relevance of the bio sciences and believe a good level of knowledge is required, bio sciences continue to remain an impediment for academic progress and a source of apprehension for students [1-3]. Academic performance in bio science subjects has been proven to be a powerful predictor of subsequent academic success [4,5].
