In addition to \"normal\" and \"staggered\" dissipative solitons, similar to those observed in spatially modulated conservative nonlinear optical systems, nondiffractive \"mid-band\" solitons of extremely small size are shown, having no counterparts in conservative systems.","PeriodicalId":179542,"journal":{"name":"EQEC '05. It is known that the large number of photons generated at each pump shots leads to a deterioration of the visibility with respect to the coincidence (low gain) regime because of the appearance of a high background level which tends to hide the imaging information. At the end, this study arrives at an analytical expression approximating the critical angle of the incidence of the holding beam, for which discrete cavity solitons start to move in transverse direction. A grazing incidence illumination configurations adopted, with excitation of the tip dipole along its axis, and backscattering collection arrangement along the maximum emission direction. This optimized geometry resulted in a 2/3 orders of magnitude increase of the efficiency (up to 10/sup 6/ photons/s) with respect to previous experiments, allowing standard scan rates for NSOM imaging. An extended-cavity Ti:sapphire oscillator is developed that generates 25-fs pulses at 800 nm with 25 MHz repetition rate, obtaining a fourfold increase in pulse energy at given average power, minimizing thermal effects on the tip.","PeriodicalId":179542,"journal":{"name":"EQEC '05.
