In case of using a web browser the rapidly evolving web technology generates an increasing variety of client platform applications. Therefore, solutions are often obsolete after a short life time. New browser versions do not support earlier versions of web technology or browsers of different developers differ in the completeness of implemented web technology. The close coupling of the visualization system's functionality and implementation technology caused by Java Applets or Java Beans requires a completely new implementation of the whole solution although its functionality does not change. An interesting method for improving this approach is the Model Driven Software Development (MDSD). This paper presents an XML-based Graphical User Interface Language, which follows this idea and shows the currently available models. The paper presents first experiences in the design of user interfaces for laboratory experiments.","PeriodicalId":179530,"journal":{"name":"2010 4th IEEE International Conference on E-Learning in Industrial Electronics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128371911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The widespread use of mobile technologies, digital TV and Internet enables ubiquitous learning environments that allow students to learn anywhere anytime. However, the diversity of computational and display capabilities of the current access devices (i.e. PC, mobile phones, set-top boxes) requires a smart content design methodology to reduce the development time. This paper aims to present the methodology followed to generate platform-independent interactive learning materials with high presence of multimedia resources and its deployment in different platforms. The methodology is shown taking the example of an interactive application to drive a seminar on the soldering process of complex BGA chip packages for building electronic systems. This content design process is shown from our platform-independent design level until its deployment in PC, TV and mobile platforms. This may help teachers and content creators in the generation of learning materials that are independent of the Learning Content Management System (LCMS) that serve it and the device used to access to it. Moreover, basic guidelines are given to generate the classroom materials through the same unified design process.","PeriodicalId":179530,"journal":{"name":"2010 4th IEEE International Conference on E-Learning in Industrial Electronics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133782458","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
