Recognition of delirium by nurses continues to be limited. Design: The prospective observational study included 50 consecutive non-intubated patients staying in the ICU for more than 24 hours. Setting: Department of anesthesiology and intensive care medicine (5 beds) of AGEL Hospital in Valašské Meziříčí, between September 2020 and March 2021. Methods: Primary outcome was to compare the presence of delirium in non-intubated ICU patients with two simultaneously used assessment tools: the Neelon and Champagne (NEECHAM) Confusion Scale, and the Confusion Assessment Method for the Intensive Care Unit (CAM-ICU). A secondary outcome was to verify the NEECHAM Confusion Scale reliability in the Czech ICU setting. Results: The study found that the incidence rates detected by the CAM-ICU (32%) and NEECHAM Confusion Scale (28%) were comparable. Nearly a third of CAM-ICU-negative patients were found to belong to the mild confusion or at-risk NEECHAM Confusion Scale groups. The internal consistency of the NEECHAM Confusion Scale assessed with Cronbach’s α was 0.703. There was a statistically significant relationship between delirium and two of the studied patient parameters (GCS score and use of antipsychotics). Conclusions: Delirium is common in ICU patients, but it often remains undiagnosed. Various tools have been developed to help identify delirium patients. Their use has been shown to result in better outcomes. Both studied tools (the CAM-ICU and NEECHAM Confusion Scale) appear to be suitable and convenient.","PeriodicalId":17818,"journal":{"name":"Kontakt","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-03-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49318359","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Being overweight causes other diseases. Excessive weight is often the cause of poor quality of life. Goal: This paper aims to evaluate the relationship between selected health and social aspects and proper nutrition, discover how lifestyle affects BMI, and body composition, especially fatty tissue, identify the relationship between BMI and the quality of life, compare the quality of life of respondents to population norms, and find out whether there are differences between indicators depending on BMI. Methods: We used BMI to evaluate obesity. We mapped the relationship between body weight, body composition, lifestyle, and quality of life. We obtained data using questionnaires. The first questionnaire focused on the respondents’ lifestyles. The WHOQOL-BREF standardized questionnaire was used second. Furthermore, the respondents underwent a body composition analysis using bioimpedance with the InBody 270 device. The research group included 81 women aged 18–41. The sample group was divided into two groups according to BMI values. Results: The average BMI value in the groups of women divided according to BMI was 20.9 kg/m2 (16.7–24.3 kg/m2), the proportion of body fat averaged 24.8% (13.4–37.3%), or 30.8 kg/m2 (25.4–44.8 kg/m2), body fat content averaged 38.9% (29.5–51.9%). In terms of lifestyle, differences arose in the frequency of food consumption and physical activities. When comparing the quality of life with population norms, there were differences in all evaluated domains.","PeriodicalId":17818,"journal":{"name":"Kontakt","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-02-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41992957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Quality of life can be predicted not only by the physical disability after a stroke, but also by the patient’s psychosocial state. The aim of the present study is to examine the relationship between depression, anxiety, and quality of life in the acute phase after strokes. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive type of study was carried out. The research sample consisted of 79 patients after a stroke (Mage = 67.9 ± 12.3). Depression and anxiety were measured using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and quality of life using the Stroke Specific Quality of Life Scale. Simple and multiple linear regression analyses were used for data analysis. Results: Depression and anxiety predicted overall quality of life in patients after a stroke. The physical aspect of quality of life and overall quality of life were strongly predicted by depression, while the psychosocial aspect of quality of life was strongly related to anxiety in stroke patients. Higher depression and anxiety are manifested in a worsened quality of life, and it is similar in the physical and psychosocial aspects. Approximately 20% of patients had severe depression and anxiety. Conclusions: A patient’s quality of life after a stroke is affected not only by their functional condition, but also by psychosocial distress. Early diagnostics of psychosocial distress should be an important part of the care and treatment of stroke patients.","PeriodicalId":17818,"journal":{"name":"Kontakt","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-01-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47516590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of our research was to assess the factors that influences children’s cooperation in real situations. Methods: Our target group consisted of 80 children (<16 years) who required first aid at Lake Balaton during the summer vacation in 2016. The effect of music, child-friendly equipment and rewards on compliance were observed in contrast to ordinary care. For data collection observation, documentation, Wong–Baker and PSS (Pain Severity Score ) scales were used. For statistical analysis descriptive statistics, χ2-test and Cramer coefficient were applied. Results: The research justified that music did not result in any positive changes in behaviour and did not decrease fear or pain, and that the documentation became more difficult. However, colourful tools and rewards led to significant improvements in the children’s mood (p < 0.001), pain (p = 0.001), and behaviour (p = 0.07). Conclusions: In first aid and professional medical training more emphasis should be placed on childcare specialities, highlighting differences in applied equipment and communication. Child-friendly equipment should be widely available, such as colourful tools and simple gifts, and during treatment greater attention should be paid to creating compliance. Adequate communication could help reduce the amount of analgesic given in children’s emergency care.","PeriodicalId":17818,"journal":{"name":"Kontakt","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41446113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Design: A descriptive cross-sectional study. Methods: Data collection was carried out from January to March 2021 using the MISSCARE Survey-Pediatric and Practice Environment Scale – Nursing Work Index instruments. The respondents were pediatric nurses (N = 138) from five care units in the Czech Republic. Results: The most frequently missed nursing care activities were assessing the activities attributes to a caregiver, promoting neuroevolutionary development, or emotional support to the child and/or family. Correlations between missed nursing care and work environment have not been confirmed. However, the relationship between the work environment and perceived staff adequacy was proved. Conclusions: Consistent with other studies, we have confirmed that pediatric nurses missed mainly independent nursing care activities, similar to adult nurses. Likewise, we have proved that the workload associated with an unexpected increase in the number or severity of patients on the care units is one of the most important reasons for the phenomenon. Despite unconfirmed associations between missed nursing care and the work environment, further research should focus on its closer examination in a larger sample of pediatric nurses.","PeriodicalId":17818,"journal":{"name":"Kontakt","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47564192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also strengthens the relationship between the family and the health care team, as well as the patients. However, the implementation of this practice remains unclear. Purpose: This study aimed to explore the nurses’ perception and their self-confidence in relation to family presence during resuscitation in Indonesia, in order to adapt the Indonesian version of the Family Presence Risk-Benefit Scale and Family Presence Self-Confidence Scale tools. Methods: The study was cross-sectional, using the Indonesian version of the Family Presence Risk-Benefit Scale and Family Presence SelfConfidence Scale tools. Results: 174 nurses working in the intensive care/intensive cardiac care unit and emergency room at a tertiary referral hospital in Riau Province of Indonesia completed the questionnaire, including the opinion-based questions. Our respondents had neither positive nor negative perceptions of family presence during resuscitation (mean score 3.37; SD 1.00). The Pearson r correlation test showed that nurses who perceived more benefits of this practice are more confident when it comes to implementing it (r = 0.618; P-value 0.000). We found that the only demographic factor determining the nurses’ attitudes toward family-witnessed resuscitation was the number of times they had been involved in a resuscitation scenario. Conclusions: A high self-confidence score in implementing family-witnessed resuscitation was found among our respondents. In fact, most of them had invited family members to witness the resuscitation attempt. However, the nurses had a neutral attitude toward family presence during resuscitation. This study also suggests that nurses will likely support this practice when other doctors also support it.","PeriodicalId":17818,"journal":{"name":"Kontakt","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45582340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A scoping review was conducted to examine the association between physical activity in preconception health and its long-term effects on the later life of the offspring. Methods: The literature was searched in databases CINAHL, ScienceDirect and PubMed, using keywords determined by the study objective. In total, 755 published manuscripts were identified. Two additional manuscripts were identified through manual searching. A total of 17 manuscripts was selected for the final analysis. The data were extracted and summarized using thematic analysis. Results: The selected studies were summarized in two categories: (1) studies associated with physical activity and preconception health behaviour (n = 8), and (2) studies associated with preconception physical activity, fertility, and pregnancy outcomes (n = 9). Conclusions: Despite limited evidence, other indirect scientific evidence shows that physical activity positively affects health, and is therefore strongly recommended during the preconception period. Policymakers, researchers, and healthcare professionals should join efforts in examining the impact of physical activity on preconception health, fertility and birth outcomes, and effectively translate the findings into preconception health guidelines and public policies.","PeriodicalId":17818,"journal":{"name":"Kontakt","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45063626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aim: The aim of the study was to increase the understanding of the lived experience of outpatients with PD and its impact on their dignity. Methods: The study design is explorative using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). Semi-structured interviews were held with 11 participants with PD between February–May 2018. Interviews were conducted as individual face-to-face interviews, in privacy with no involvement of family members according to the interview protocol. Data analysis was performed according to IPA process using the ATLAS.ti 8.0 program. Results: Our study identified five themes that reflect the lived experience of outpatients with PD: Me and my Parkinson’s: losses, acceptance and coping; The Need to Remain Self-sufficient versus the Fear of Dependence; How Do Others See Me: Scorn versus Acceptance; Lack of Information versus the Need to Be Informed; Lack of Respect versus the Accommodating Approach of Healthcare Professionals. We discovered their impact on dignity, especially in the areas concerning autonomy, self-esteem, self-worth, identity, respect, and other people’s appreciation. Conclusions: Patients with PD are confronted with many serious changes on a daily basis, which significantly influence their dignity. This fact must be known and respected by health care professionals when providing patient-oriented care.","PeriodicalId":17818,"journal":{"name":"Kontakt","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2021-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43004720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
