The occurrence of single line to ground faults on the utility's primary lines (i.e., the most frequent type of utility faults) has a significant impact on the voltage magnitude and phase angle as seen by all the customers connected to the primary circuit. The type of transformer connection (e.g., wye ungrounded-delta) linking a customer to the primary circuit alters the primary voltage sags during primary circuit faults that seen at the customers service entrance. This paper presents the phase and line-to-line voltage sag basic equations for an ungrounded-delta transformer connection due to primary distribution single line phase faults. The basic equations presented provide the framework for evaluating the voltage sags for nine different transformer connections. The significant impact of grounded and ungrounded transformer connections on the magnitude and phase angle of the primary and secondary phase and line voltages are revealed.","PeriodicalId":177613,"journal":{"name":"Conference Proceedings. The modelling of the problem is based on Maxwell's equations and the equation of heat. This article presents a method of numerical simulation coupling the calculation of physical process evolving in the material in the course of heating. An algorithm for indirect coupling is developed for resolving the problem of calculation time important for a big agreement between the thermal and electric constants. This method is implemented for the 2D case in the MATLAB environment and utilises the tools in the PDE block. An example application is illustrated by the modelling and simulation of reheating of an aluminium billet.","PeriodicalId":177613,"journal":{"name":"Conference Proceedings. During this process, some visually useful information may be lost. Assessing the information loss in decompressed images is not an easy task. In this paper, a new quantitative image-quality measure is introduced. This new measure incorporates information theory into the most commonly used objective criterion (the mean square error). The new measure has been tested by experiments performed on a wide variety of images. The results show an increase in the correlation between subjective rating by human observers and the normalized mean square error after applying the new measure.","PeriodicalId":177613,"journal":{"name":"Conference Proceedings. The decoupling of the flux and the electromagnetic torque, obtained by field orientation, depends on the precision and the accuracy of the estimated states. This paper presents the application of the extended Kalman filter (EKF) to the online estimation of the rotor resistance, electrical speed and flux components. The EKF algorithm combines information from the process or the plant model with output measurements to produce an optimal estimate of the unmeasured states. The estimation of the rotor speed allows the implementation of sensorless control.","PeriodicalId":177613,"journal":{"name":"Conference Proceedings. These Gauss quadratures form the basis of the exponential-expansion-based method, which has previously been developed for rapid and accurate evaluation of the potential field and its gradient in three dimensions. Given a desired degree of accuracy on the approximation of /sup 1///sub r/, the technique proposed here enables generation of exponential expansion with sizes as small as possible. It makes use of the standard Legendre-Gauss and Chebychev-Gauss quadratures, and does not require solving a large system of non-linear equations.","PeriodicalId":177613,"journal":{"name":"Conference Proceedings.
