It provides a basic rate interface, 2B+D (2B for 2 bearer channels of 64 kbps each and D for delta channel of 16 kbps). It also provides primary rate interface 23B+D (1.544 Mbps equivalent to T1) in North America and 30B+D in Europe. In this paper we explore the use of narrowband ISDN for real-time applications in homes and small businesses. The paper concentrates on some real-time applications supported by the ISDN basic rate interface in homes and small businesses. In particular, ISDN LAP-D and call control protocols have been analyzed in detail, to support the real-time applications. High level scenarios, protocol message and bit level scenarios have been designed for the real-time applications.","PeriodicalId":177613,"journal":{"name":"Conference Proceedings. Traditional acquisition methods such as serial search, sequential estimation, and I-Q matched filters are either too slow, incapable of overcoming high co-user noise, or unable to handle phase rotations due to Doppler shifts. The SMF has a high acquisition speed because it retains the signal history. A new code phase candidate can be tested as each new code chip is received. The segmentation of the SMF's correlation function allows it to handle several cycles of phase rotation caused by carrier frequency offset (Doppler). Presented here is a 512 bit, 16 segment (32 bits per segment) SMF implemented as a mixed analog/digital integrated circuit (IC). Several ICs may be cascaded to extend the effective filter length.","PeriodicalId":177613,"journal":{"name":"Conference Proceedings. We propose a network architecture for a multi-service HFC network that can be used to support multiple services such as voice telephony and Internet access. Also, we propose enhancements to the 802.14 medium access control (MAC) protocols to facilitate supporting isochronous asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) traffic over HFC networks. In particular, we propose enhancements to the constant bit rate (CBR) service of 802.14 MAC protocol. We show that good quality of service, and enhanced bandwidth utilization are achieved using the proposed scheme. Our proposal facilitates the migration towards end-to-end ATM networks.","PeriodicalId":177613,"journal":{"name":"Conference Proceedings. Each user is assumed to be requesting a variable bit rate (VBR) MPEG2 encoded media stream. The scheduling scheme maximizes the number of streams that can be served concurrently. The quality of service is guaranteed in terms of the fraction of the frames that may be dropped for a user. When a new request arrives, the admission control algorithm estimates the fraction of frames that may have to be dropped for the users assuming that the new request is accepted. If the fraction of frames is more than the drop rate committed to the users, the request is rejected, otherwise it is accepted. Our scheme is much more simpler than the schemes suggested in the literature and results in better utilization of the resources, and at the same time provides guaranteed QoS to the users requesting predictive service. Extensive simulations have been conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of this scheduling scheme.","PeriodicalId":177613,"journal":{"name":"Conference Proceedings. These converters with a rectifier circuit at output stage can be used as a DC to DC converter. In this case, the control of DC voltage magnitude at the output is the most important factor in converter operation. On the other hand, as the switching frequency in these converters may be up to the range of megahertz, the subtraction of switching devices not only simplifies the control circuit, but also reduces the losses and cost. This paper presents a new power circuit for a parallel loaded resonant DC/DC converter (PLR) with only one controlled switching device. In this circuit the rectifier bridge is not necessary and use of a new switching pattern makes it possible to control the output voltage in a very simple manner.","PeriodicalId":177613,"journal":{"name":"Conference Proceedings. In the deregulation of the power industry, many independent power producers (IPPs) are seeking chances to be connected to the existing transmission systems under an open access environment. Some IPPs will sell power to existing utilities at a market price and others may participate in wheeling transactions with a third party, using the existing transmission system. This paper reports research about the impact of wheeling introduced in an existing electric power system. The evaluation of the impact on the existing utility power system is conducted by multiple perspectives such as: transmission loss, voltage profiles, and network congestion. Numerical analyses have been done on a standard IEEE power system. The optimal power flow was solved by varying the possible combinations of an IPP supplier and a customer load in wheeling transactions. The power output of the IPPs was assumed to be determined by an economic objective and therefore not controllable by the existing utility. The various numerical aspects were assessed based on the economic dispatch and AC load flow data.","PeriodicalId":177613,"journal":{"name":"Conference Proceedings.
