BNs are recently attracting considerable interest as computational models for genetic and cellular networks. We study the control-theoretic notion of observability, that is, the possibility of uniquely determining the initial state given a time sequence of outputs. We show that the problem of determining whether a BN is observable or not is NP-hard. Our results are based on combining the algebraic representation of BNs derived by D. A fundamental requirement to achieve a stable levitation melting process relates to the bulk stability of the metallic load, which is the ability of the system to keep the load suspended at a fixed equilibrium position. It is found that the process stability is affected not only by the coil geometry but also by the power supply design. By usage of the Papoulis Generalized Sampling Expansion theorem, and addressing the problem of missing samples, we are able to state, for any given sampling realization, which sampling schemes will yield reconstructable images and what sampling (Nyquist) frequency is required for this realization. NWMS-decoding is a BP-type algorithm that applies to any irregular Tanner code with single parity-check local codes (e.g., LDPC codes and HDPC codes). The decoding guarantee of NWMS applies whenever there exists a locally optimal codeword. We prove that if a locally-optimal codeword with respect to height parameter h exists, then NWMS-decoding finds it in h iterations. This decoding guarantee holds for every finite value of h and is not limited by the girth. Fluid resuscitation of the trauma victim is the common practice following hemorrhage in the pre-hospital setting. Since whole blood as well as plasma transfusions are not available in field conditions, various plasma substitutes are mostly used. However, a major disadvantage of these solutions is that they distribute into all the fluid compartments (intravascular and extravascular) usually causing edema. Another disadvantage is the lack of monitoring methods that will allow assessment of intravascular fluid volume to prevent overloading. A method to determine intravascular fluid volume during the fluid therapy procedure is therefore needed. Recently, noninvasive methods for estimation of hematocrit had been introduced. This allows the development of a system based on blood dilution. To study a dilution algorithm based on infusion rate and hematocrit assessment, a lumped model of the cardiovascular system including an interstitium compartment was developed. Based on the model, an algorithm was developed to estimate intravascular blood volume based on known infused volume and hematocrit changes. Model predictions were compared with animal experiments. Although people with ADHD display difficulties in timing of paced motor tasks and evidence altered time perception, studies have failed to show a difference in spontaneous finger tapping rate and have demonstrated inconsistent findings regarding finger tapping variability. We hypothesized that a more detailed analysis of finger tapping, which included the two main finger tapping phases: the touch-phase, defined as the time between onset and offset of the finger tap, and the off-phase, the period between offset and onset, would reveal a significant difference between people with and without ADHD. For this purpose, a highly sensitive system for finger tapping recording and analysis was developed. Finger tapping analysis was carried out on a total of 109 subjects; 68 had been diagnosed with ADHD, and 41 were without any diagnosis (control). However, existence of an optimal state feedback, affecting only a selected set of modes, is questionable. This study proves the existence of optimal modal feedback for the case of infinite horizon LQR and H∞ control methods. It defines a modal state space model by using a new state-space similarity transformation and solves the corresponding algebraic Riccati's equation. The solution is based on the selection of LQR weighting and H∞ output matrices. In this work, a new generic statistic is proposed - called the characteristic mean or charm in short - a generalization of the ordinary mean vector, which nonetheless carries a special form of HOS. The charm is parameterized by a parameters-vector called processing-point, which, when properly selected, conveniently controls the trade-off between the charm's HOS information content and the variance of its sample-estimate. A blind charm-based iterative algorithm is proposed, involving data-driven selection of the processing-point.
