The electric arc furnace with all its equipment is often a key unit in the entire steel manufacturing process. Therefore, all electric arc furnace equipment must be designed with respect to the requirement of high reliability for long-term operation under very hard conditions in the steel mill. A very important part of the furnace installation is the device that compensates the undesirable reactive power and also reduces the voltage distortion in the supply grid. A filter-compensation unit is used for this purpose. During the operation of the filter-compensation unit in an investigated furnace installation a failure occurred, whose causes are described in this paper.","PeriodicalId":177031,"journal":{"name":"2020 21st International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"06 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129812986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, many questions still remain about the exact structure of the grid. This paper aims to explain the idea behind the holonic architecture of smart grids and give a framework on self-healing within this architecture. The state of the art is presented with different organization structures that are proposed for smart-grids applications, as well as the potential the holonic structure brings along and also the challenges that must be dealt with. The framework for self-healing from faults, or interruption, is presented, including prerequisites, quality coefficients evaluation and development, and the self-healing procedure. Some thoughts regarding the application of holonic architecture for self-healing function in smart grids, are also presented.","PeriodicalId":177031,"journal":{"name":"2020 21st International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"9 7","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131751596","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Climate change and volatile fuel prices are persuading policy-making institutions to move in the direction of energy efficiency practices. The energy-efficient models of household appliances contain power electronic circuits and, thus, a source of current harmonics. In order to estimate the influence of current harmonics on the distribution network, an accurate assessment of power quality is required when the non-linear sources are connected to the distribution grid. However, accurate assessment is a challenging task because of the involvement of various uncertainties. This paper focuses on the influence of installation cables on the current harmonics connected with the nonlinear devices.","PeriodicalId":177031,"journal":{"name":"2020 21st International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133514251","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its effects on the principles of distribution network planning and load profiles need to be studied. In this paper, we evaluate the feasibility of replacing the conventional cars with EVs in Finnish district heated apartment house areas. Stochastic simulation is used to combine a probabilistic charging model and electricity consumption data. We estimate the effects of uncontrolled, curtailed and price-optimized residential EV charging with different charging powers defined in the standards. The simulation results show that with 11.1 kW and 22.2 kW uncontrolled charging, the example apartment house connections would be overloaded. It is also found that the price-optimized charging should include a coordinated control logic that supports the local grid. With 1.84 kW charging, the power demand stays within the acceptable limits, but the coincidence factor increases from 0.2 to 0.63-0.93.","PeriodicalId":177031,"journal":{"name":"2020 21st International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134018935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The safety is based on the well prepared fuel loading pattern that is created with using 3D full core calculations. The calculations are conducted with the simplified geometry and simplified neutron transport solvers (called macrocodes) in industry based process. The simplified calculation approach is efficient with reduced calculation costs, however the specific library of the macroscopic cross-sections have to be prepared. The library is calculated using deterministic or stochastic lattice codes. The macroscopic cross-sections are affected by the calculation approach, moreover they provide connections of the mathematical solution with the physic meaning. The macroscopic cross-sections are compared in the paper. The main problem of the deterministic calculation codes is self-shielding simulation. The presented approach shows relatively good results consistency with the stochastic code. Otherwise, the XS are affected by the self-shielding methodology in higher scale than the multiplication factor. The XS calculated via different code represents reasonably good compliance, however the transport XS is highly affected by the approach (up to 30 %) or code used for data preparation process (up to 50%).","PeriodicalId":177031,"journal":{"name":"2020 21st International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116958586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Four concepts are created by combining ordinary or smart appliance and PLC or Wireless communication. Reliable communication is necessary for proper operation of the Off-Grid control system based on demand response. It is important for control system to know what appliances are connected and running and for an appliance is important to know whether it is allowed to start operation. At first, the Off-Grid and its control system is described, then several parameters of the communication network created by PLC in the Off-Grid system are tested and analysed. During testing, different appliances are connected to the Off-Grid to identify their impact on these parameters.","PeriodicalId":177031,"journal":{"name":"2020 21st International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117074311","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
