New control strategies for power electronics try to cope with that problem by introducing virtual inertia. Sychronverter is one of the promising algorithms. Furthermore, other control techniques combined with synchronverter might improve stability. Model predictive control (MPC) has proven to be a good tool in real applications. Therefore, the authors present a simplified mathematical model of a PV power plant with a synchronverter. The paper also proves that the presented model can be applied to MPC for synchronverter. Depending on the stated objective, MPC for synchronverter can bring different advantages to the control of grid converters.","PeriodicalId":177031,"journal":{"name":"2020 21st International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125270429","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Short-circuit withstand capability of electrical devices is important parameter from point of view of power system design and operation safety. If short-circuit currents exceed accessible limits there are some possibilities how to reduce them. One possibility of reducing fault currents is to use of duplex reactor in power system. The compensation is to ensure a symmetrical and pure active load of the three-phase grid. It is documented that after the proposed compensation it is possible to draw symmetrical and pure active current from all phases. A set of multi-level voltage converters is considered as a compensation device. The paper presents a way of determining the reference currents for the converter in its two branches and proposes a method of controlling the converter so that the active power from the grid is equal to the active load of the load. This methodology is documented by the results of a series of simulations for static and dynamic modes of the system.","PeriodicalId":177031,"journal":{"name":"2020 21st International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"252 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114321860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the fact that energy is being saved and the efficiency on the final customer side is improving, our demand of energy is rising. The amplitude of these oscillations is determined by the circuit properties in which the SPD stands, and it can significantly exceed the level of the remaining voltage at the SPD, negatively affecting the internal insulation of the high-voltage equipment elements. The parameters of these high-frequency oscillations are determined by the grounding device (GD) parameters in which the SPD is connected. Due to the results analysis of the numerical simulation of the current flow processes in the GD, it is shown that the GD impedance is complex, and the transient resistance of the GD can be used to describe the GD reaction to pulsed action. A distinctive feature of the transient resistance is their high sensitivity to load parameters in the high-frequency interval of the action (at the pulse front) and the steady-state value of the GD resistance after 10–20 microseconds, determined in stationary modes. The maximum values of high-frequency overvoltages are determined by the maximum values of a transient resistance. The numerical simulation results of the lightning current spreading process in a 3D formulation for various GD configurations showed that there is an optimal parameters ratio depending on the time constant of the soil (the product of dielectric constant and conductivity), at which minimum amplitudes of high-frequency oscillations are observed.","PeriodicalId":177031,"journal":{"name":"2020 21st International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114918467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The described approach was applied in a transmission system load modelling study. The goal of the study was to choose representative loads for measurement-based modelling. The work was motivated by the limited number of available measurement devices and available personnel for data processing. The monthly energy consumption of each load class was known for each aggregated bus load. After measurement data pre-processing the larger loads were clustered using K-means algorithm, and smaller assigned to clusters.
