Here, we analyze the relationship between functional and respiratory capacities in institutionalized elderly. This research is defined as a cross-sectional, descriptive, prospective study, with a quantitative approach, carried out at the Shelter Unit for the Elderly in Fortaleza. The study consisted of 26 institutionalized elderly people able to participate in the sample. We identified that male participants predominated in this study, with an average age of 74 years with a history of smoking and alcoholism, where the majority did not undergo physical therapy. The average execution time of the Timed Up and Go Test was 18.2 seconds. When analyzing the difference in the cirtometry means, a variation was found for the axillary, xiphoid and umbilical measurements. Mean of inspiratory muscle strength of 35.2 cmH2O and expiratory 51.4 cm H2O were evaluated. When evaluating the quality of life, the physical domain was detected as the greatest value. It is concluded that the variation in functional capacity and mobility through the TUG has no correlation with the respiratory capacity assessed through cirtometry and manovacuometry.","PeriodicalId":176982,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Clinical Medicine and Review","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125192308","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

HIV presents very accentuated neurotropism, leading to the appearance of neurological syndromes, mainly in more chronic phases of the infectious process. The most frequent alterations are vacuolar myelopathy and a picture of cerebral atrophy, progressive dementia, and peripheral neuropathies, all related to the action of HIV and the immune system itself in the central and peripheral nervous tissue. HIV-associated dementia contributes to the morbidity of the infection and is a risk factor for mortality. Prior to the use of antiretroviral therapy, over 15% of individuals with AIDS had dementia and over 15% of minor motor cognitive impairment. Advanced infection is a risk factor for the development of dementia both in the pre- and post-pharmacological treatment era. Considering the aspects, the present study aimed to carry out an integrative literature review on the pathophysiological aspects of the relationship between dementia and HIV carriers.","PeriodicalId":176982,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Clinical Medicine and Review","volume":"39 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121230220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We carried out a cross-sectional, observational study of a quantitative nature, from the recruitment of 11 individuals with COPD, assisted by a specialized hospital in the state of Ceará. For data collection, the following were used: an evaluation form containing demographic and clinical data, prepared by the researchers; a cardiofrequency meter to measure the heart rate during and after the walk test; the Duke Activity Status Index (DASI) questionnaire to assess the capacity functional scale, the London Chest Activity of Daily Living (LCADL) scale to check the level of dyspnea and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) to analyze the level of anxiety. We identified the LCADL scale was significantly correlated with the BAI (r= 0.847; p=0.001). Also, we found that the DASI scale was negatively correlated with the BAI (r= -0.632; p=0.037), and it was verified that the lower the score, the greater the anxiety and the lower the performance in activities of daily living (ADLs). In this context, we observed that anxiety significantly impacts ADLs in the evaluated population.","PeriodicalId":176982,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Clinical Medicine and Review","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122884168","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, any alteration due to injury or dysfunction can cause signs and symptoms that characterize temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD). Based on a narrative review, this study sought to analyze the effectiveness of the diagnosis of temporomandibular disorders by magnetic resonance imaging, through a literature review. It was evidenced that, among radiodiagnosis exams, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers essential data and information regarding the mapping of the TMJ, especially in cases of dysfunction due to disk displacement. of the joint, also having the advantage of not exposing the patient to ionizing radiation, as in the case of computed tomography, for example. Thus, it is impossible not to link the benefits offered by MRI for the diagnosis of TMD. With high-resolution images, the MRI technique allows detailed and precise anatomical and functional observation, providing exclusive information on the studied segments, results that only the MRI device can achieve. Although it has limitations like any method, its incomparable advantages stand out, taking MRI to an unattainable level in relation to other techniques available for studying the TMJ.","PeriodicalId":176982,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Clinical Medicine and Review","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115539185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we hypothesized that the Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) pathogenesis, an elderly hematopoietic disease, can be affect by block of the Klotho expression, increasing ROS production in the medullary microenvironment, attenuating the DNA damage in HSCs, and leading to reduced count of blood cell precursors, characterizing the cytopenic profile of MDS patient. The absence or negative regulation of Klotho may be a poor prognostic marker of MDS, especially when patients are stratified by age. We believed that younger adult MDS patients show a higher Klotho expression while compared to old adults MDS patients, demonstrating that its expression is decreased with increasing age, representing a more aggressive disease. To confirm this hypothesis, an extensive clinical case-control study can be performed on bone marrow cell samples of MDS patients to show differential expression of Klotho gene and protein, and as this target can be modulate in this disease (based on promoter region methylation analysis). These approaches may define the Klotho as a new pathologic marker to MDS in elderly and improve future potential therapies.","PeriodicalId":176982,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Clinical Medicine and Review","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117301748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is worth noting that there is no evidence that MRI causes biological effects in the fetus, the exams should be reserved for patients in the second and third trimester of pregnancy. Here, we performed a literature review to point out the importance of the applicability of gestational Magnetic Resonance for the identification of changes in embryonic development, gestational pathologies, maternal diseases, sequelae of infections, fetal malformations, diagnosis of placental deficiency and creation of three-dimensional prototypes for surgical planning and fetal visualization. From this narrative review it was possible to identify that the applicability of gestational MRI is related to the identification of alterations in embryonic development, gestational pathologies in general, maternal diseases, sequelae of infections, fetal malformations, diagnosis of placental deficiency and creation of prototypes three-dimensional (3D) models for surgical planning and fetal visualization.","PeriodicalId":176982,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Clinical Medicine and Review","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129310950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
