Alcohol is one of the compounds that can slow down the formation of foam cells which are the beginning of atherosclerotic lesions. This study was aimed to determine the effect of alcohol administration on the aortic histopathological features of Wistar rats induced by margarine. This was an experimental laboratory study. Samples were 20 Wistar rats divided into 4 groups, as follows: negative control (KN), given pellet only; positive control (KP), given pellet and margarine 5 g per day; treatment 1 (P1), given pellet, margarine 5 g, and wine (14% of alcohol) 0.18 ml per day; and treatment 2 (P2), given pellet, margarine 5 g, and wine 0.36 ml per day. All samples were terminated at day 29. Rat aortas were prepared for microscopic slides. The results showed that foam cells were found in the aortic layers. The highest number of foam cells was found in KP group, followed by P1 group, meanwhile P2 group had the lowest number of foam cells. Conclusion: In the aortas of Wistar rats given wine in moderate dose concomitantly with margarine (P1 and P2 groups), the numbers of foam cells were less than in Wistar rats that were given margarine only (KP group).Keywords: wine, histopathology of aorta, atherosclerosis, margarine Abstrak: Margarin merupakan bahan dapur yang mengandung lemak trans yang sangat berperan dalam pembentukan aterosklerosis. Alkohol adalah salah satu senyawa yang dapat memperlambat pembentukkan sel busa yang merupakan awal dari lesi aterosklerosis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari pemberian alkohol terhadap gambaran histopatologik aorta tikus Wistar yang diinduksi margarin. Jenis penelitian ialah eksperimental laboratorik. Sampel penelitian ialah 20 ekor tikus Wistar yang dibagi atas 4 kelompok: kontol negatif (KN), hanya diberikan pelet; kontrol positif (KP) diberikan pelet dan margarin 5 gr per hari; perlakuan 1 (P1) diberikan pelet, margarin 5 gr dan minuman anggur (kandungan alkohol 14%) 0,18 ml per hari; dan perlakuan 2 (P2) diberikan pelet dan margarin 5 gr serta minuman anggur 0,36 ml per hari. Semua sampel diterminasi pada hari ke-29, dan aorta tikus diambil untuk sediaan mikroskopik. Hasil pengamatan histopatologik mendapatkan sel busa pada lapisan-lapisan aorta dengan jumlah tertinggi pada kelompok KP, kemudian P1, dan paling sedikit pada P2. During exercise, the organs experience acute adaptation, one of which is the increased work of the heart which can be monitored through blood pressure. Blood pressure can vary depending on the situations including physical exercise. This study was aimed to obtain the difference in blood pressure of weight lifters before and after weight lifting. A non-random sampling technique was performed with a cross-sectional design. This study was conducted at Hardcore Gym Manado from November to December 2015. There were 38 subjects consisting of 27 males (71.1%) and 11 females (28.9%). The results showed that there were differences in systolic and diastolic blood pressures between before and after weight lifting, as follows: the means of systolic blood pressure before and after weight lifting were 113.947±7.8290 vs 197.315±9.4871 mmHg and the means of diastolic blood pressure before and after weight lifting were 77.157±5.3551 vs. 95.473±4.0983 mmHg. The Wilcoxon signed rank test showed a significant difference in blood pressure before and after weight lifting (P=0.000). Conclusion: There are differences in blood pressure before and after weight lifting among weight lifters.Keywords: blood pressure, weight lifting Abstrak: Olahraga tidak hanya melibatkan sistem muskuloskeletal semata, namun juga mengikutsertakan sistem lain seperti sistem kardiovaskular, sistem respirasi, sistem ekskresi. Organ-organ tubuh mengalami adaptasi akut, salah satunya meningkatkanya kerja jantung yang dapat dilihat melalui tekanan darah. Tekanan darah dapat berubah-ubah bergantung situasi seperti olahraga. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbandingan tekanan darah sebelum dan sesudah olahraga angkat berat. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada pelaku olahraga angkat berat di Hardcore Gym Manado yang dilaksanakan pada bulan November-Desember 2015. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik non random sampling dengan desain potong lintang yang dilakukan pada 38 subyek. Subyek berjenis kelamin laki-laki sebanyak 27 orang (71,1%) dan yang berjenis kelamin perempuan sebanyak 11 orang (28,9%). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan hasil pengukuran tekanan darah sistolik (TDS) dan tekanan darah diastolik (TDD) sebelum dan sesudah olahraga angkat berat yaitu TDS sebelum dan sesudah olahraga angkat berat sebesar 113,947±7,8290 vs 197,315±9,4871 mmHg dan TDD sebelum dan sesudah olahraga angkat berat sebesar 77,157±5,3551 vs 95,473±4,0983 mmHg. Hasil uji Wilcoxon signed rank test menunjukkan perbedaan tekanan darah sebelum dan sesudah olahraga angkat berat yang bermakna dengan nilai P=0,000. This study was aimed to determine the relationship between alcohol consumption and HDL level. This was an analytical study with a cross sectional design. Subjects were students of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Sam Ratulangi University. Data were analyzed by using the Spearman correlation test (significancy <0.05). The results showed that 31 students were involved in this study. There were 26 students (83.87%) with normal HDL levels and 5 students (16.13%) with abnormal HDL levels. The Spearman test of the correlation between alcohol consumption (frequency, duration, and the amount of alcohol consumption) and HDL level showed the P values, as follows: P=0.256, P=0.410, and P=0.459. Conclusion: There was no correlation between alcohol consumption and HDL level.Keywords: alcohol, HDL levels Abstrak: Konsumsi alkohol diketahui memiliki efek terhadap infark miokard, penurunan kadar low density lipoprotein (LDL), dan peningkatan kadar high density lipoprotein (HDL). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan konsumsi alkohol dengan kadar HDL. Jenis penelitian ialah analitik dengan desain potong lintang. Subyek penelitian ialah mahasiswa Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Politik di Universitas Sam Ratulangi. Analisis data menggunakan uji korelasi Spearman dengan nilai signifikansi P<0,05. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan 31 mahasiswa laki-laki sebagai subyek penelitian. Subyek yang memiliki kadar HDL normal sebanyak 26 orang (83,87%) dan yang tidak normal sebanyak 5 orang (16,13%). Uji korelasi Spearman terhadap hubungan antara konsumsi alkohol (frekuensi konsumsi, lama konsumsi, jumlah konsumsi alkohol) dengan kadar HDL memiliki nilai P berturut-turut ialah P=0,256, P=0,410, dan P=0,459. Lack of physical activity has a negative impact, one of which is an increase in body fat percentage above the normal threshold or often associated with obesity. Zumba is one of the popular aerobic exercises in the form of dancing. This study was aimed to compare the percentage of body fat before and after undertaking Zumba exercise in adult woman. This was an experimental field study with the one group pretest-posttest design. Samples were obtained by using total sampling technique. Zumba exercise was undertaken for 4 weeks, 3 times a week for 60 minutes. The percentage of body fat was measured by using an instrument based on Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. Data were analyzed with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test. The results showed that l6 subjects were involved in this study. The mean percentage of body fat percentage before Zumba exercise was 39.300% (SD±8.1041) meanwhile the mean percentage of body fat percentage after Zumba exercise was 39.031% (SD±7.9232). The statistical analysis to compare the body fat percentage before and after doing Zumba exercise obtained a P value of 0.065. Conclusion: There was no significant difference in body fat percentage before and after undertaking 4-week Zumba exercise among adult females.Keywords: body fat percentage, Zumba exercise Abstrak: Aktivitas fisik merupakan gerakan tubuh yang dihasilkan otot rangka yang memer-lukan energi. Kurangnya aktivitas fisik seperti olahraga memiliki dampak negatif, salah satunya peningkatan persentase lemak tubuh di atas ambang normal atau obesitas. Olahraga yang sedang popular belakangan ini ialah senam Zumba, yaitu latihan aerobik dalam bentuk tarian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbandingan persentase lemak tubuh sebelum dan setelah melakukan senam zumba pada wanita dewasa. Jenis penelitian ialah eksperimental lapangan dengan desain one group pretest-posttest. Teknik sampling yang digunakan ialah total sampling. Senam Zumba dilakukan selama 4 minggu dengan frekuensi 3 kali seminggu yang berdurasi 60 menit. Persentase lemak tubuh diukur menggunakan alat berbasis bioelectrical impedance analysis. Data penelitian dianalisis dengan uji Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan 16 subjek. Rerata persentase lemak tubuh sebelum senam Zumba yaitu 39,300% (SD±8,1041). Rerata persentase lemak tubuh setelah senam Zumba yaitu 39,031% (SD±7,9232). Hasil uji perbandingan persentase lemak tubuh sebelum dan setelah melakukan senam zumba menunjukkan nilai P=0,065.
