The consideration is made to align more than two sequences so that a level/extend of similarity or differences be found that would help in categorizing the common characteristics of species and their behaviors. An efficient recursive approach is proposed in this paper that would not only find the multiple sequences Alignment for protein/DNA sequence but also provides means for consideration of gaps between them. The algorithm will calculate the degree of similarity and bounds/extends of gaps to bring refined and useful results. The input variables (e.g. Strands) of the program are user dependant and internal calculations are performed in recursive fashion to add intelligence to the input Strands. Experimental results have shown more favorable performance of the proposed approach as compared to other approaches.","PeriodicalId":176934,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Signal Acquisition and Processing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114470513","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The waveform set design problem is formulated as a constrained L2 space optimization problem. For bandwidth efficiency, all the waveforms in the set are constrained to have approximately the same desired spectral shapes in a prescribed passband. To minimize intersymbol interference and co-channel interference, all the waveforms in the set are constrained to have low values of autocorrelation and cross-correlation. Numerical results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of Hermite-Rodriguez functions and the usefulness of the design method to solve the waveform set design problem.","PeriodicalId":176934,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Signal Acquisition and Processing","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116002616","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both mixing and nonlinear distortion are included in the proposed model. Maximum Likelihood (ML) approach is developed to estimate the parameters in the model and this is formulated within the framework of the generalized Expectation-Maximization (EM) algorithm. Adaptive polynomial basis expansion is used to estimate the nonlinearity of the mixing model. In the E-step, the sufficient statistics associated with the source signals are estimated while in the M-step, the parameters are optimized by using these statistics. Generally, the nonlinear distortion renders the statistics intractable and difficult to be formulated in a closed form. However, in this paper it is proved that with the use of Extended Kalman Smoother (EKS) around a linearized point, the M-step is made tractable and can be solved by linear equations.","PeriodicalId":176934,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Signal Acquisition and Processing","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114259304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The methods of measuring, processing and classifying brain activities, in order to interpret neuronal signals into machine control is often regarded as a challenging possibility as the expected beneficiaries are patients affected by motor disorders and paralyses. Aiming at the usage of motor imaginary signals for machine control, the paper presents a BMI architecture with the combination of OPC (OLE process control), a standard communication protocol for the automation and machine control industry. We also analyzed the principle of real-time communication between simulated actuators and MATLAB which was used for signal processing and. Adaptive Recursive Bandpass filters and SFAM were used for the signals feature extraction and classifications respectively, whereas the communication with simulated actuators were realized with the usage of the Matricon OPC Server and MATLAB OPC Client. Test results also indicate the feasibility and effectiveness of implementing the proposed method in real time applications with reference of the control response time.","PeriodicalId":176934,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Signal Acquisition and Processing","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125657732","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Another problem is that even under equal intensity, some colors are visually brighter than others. Different color representations try to overcome these problems, with varying degrees of success. It is for this reason that there are so many standard color representations. In this paper our goal is to analyze and evaluate the various color spaces in color image enhancement applications. Conversion accuracy and structural similarity measure are the two objective parameters to measure the performance of each color space. Eight most common color spaces are formulated and tested. Their conversion efficiency is computed and they are evaluated based on their performance in image enhancement applicability. Image contrast enhancement method based on multi-resolution decomposition is proposed and tested for all the color spaces. The YUV space is has perfect reconstruction while HSI performs the best in the image enhancement.","PeriodicalId":176934,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Signal Acquisition and Processing","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129145090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
