The features of maximum power point tracker based on conventional hill-climbing algorithm are studied. The new controller incorporates the advantages of hill-climbing algorithm and eliminates its drawbacks. This technique provides fast and accurate convergence to the maximum power point during steady-state and gradually changing weather conditions. The hill-climbing algorithm is implemented using 17 fuzzy control rules. The above system has various subsystems and one of its subsystems, propagation of captured solar energy in the form of electromagnetic waves, is considered here. Various alternatives for the above exist, but Laser is the touted as a promising candidate for such propagation in future. In this paper Transmittance is calculated at different altitudes using the known atmospheric extinction coefficients for the molecular and aerosol components. The analysis is performed for three different wavelengths in infrared region: 1.06, 1.67, 2.17 microns, which happens to be the operating wavelengths for high powered Lasers. The trust-region-doleg method is proposed here for extraction of five parameters such as series resistance (Rs), shunt resistance (Rp), diode ideality factor (a), dark saturation current (I0) and photo-generated current (Ipv) under standard test conditions (STC). The comparative analysis is made by taking Villalva's iterative method and proposed trust-region-dogleg method. Two parameters Rs and Rp are extracted by Villalva's iterative method whereas all five unknown parameters can be extracted by proposed trust-region-dogleg method. The accuracy of parameters calculation depends on tolerance band and initial conditions are tabulated. The problem is to minimize the number of PMUs required for network observability and to maximize the PMU measurements redundancy. This is achieved by selecting a solution with maximum System Observability Redundancy Index (SORI)if multiple optimal solutions exist. The resulting nonlinear integer programming (NLIP)problem is solved by the proposed DE method for the optimal solution by considering different power system problems viz. a 7-bus test and IEEE 14-bus systems with and without the consideration of zero injection buses. It gives a large range of performance variation. In order to make it suitable for the purpose the index is proposed, which along with NEMA definition can be utilized for the reduction of voltage variation and exact assessment of performance of induction motor. The performance of this index along with the NEMA definition is tested for various motor performance indices such as peak stator current, derating factor. The variations in the performance of the motor can be reduced with suggested voltage unbalance index. Fuzzy logic and PI controllers are formulated and designed using MATLAB toolbox. The parameters such as rise time, peak overshoot, recovery time, settling time and steady state error of a brushless DC motor are taken for analyzing the performance of the proposed controller. A mathematical model of the PV system assumes importance as it enables the study of its performance under varying environmental and load conditions so as to assess its suitability for real time applications. To serve this purpose a mathematical model of the PV system has been developed in Matlab. The simulator is modeled to support a large array PV system, so that it can be interfaced with power electronic converters. Also the PV model has been connected with the cascade multilevel inverter (MLI) and the results are presented. The proposed converter adopts the interleaved operation and soft switching technique to reduce the input current ripple, output voltage ripple, the switching losses and reverse recovery losses of diodes resulting in high efficiency. In this paper, the operation and design equations are explained for proposed converter and its performance characteristics are compared with that of conventional hard switched interleaved flyback converter using MATLAB/SIMULINK.
