The ash content was highest in Cystoseira Barbata (19.20%). The protein content ranged between 9.88% – 10.21%. The performances of soxhlet and cold press extraction methods were compared in determining the lipid content of macroalgae. The cold pressing extraction method was shown to have a higher yield of lipid extracts than the soxhlet extraction method. The most abundant fatty acid in the macroalgae species was palmitic acid (C16:0, 35.35 – 47.34%) from saturated fatty acids (SFAs). Oleic acid (C18:1, 18.78 – 25.25%) and palmitoleic acid (C16:1, 14.24 – 15.36%) were other plentiful fatty acids from monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) in the studied species. Linoleic acid (C18:2ω6), α-linolenic acid (C18:3ω3), and docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6ω3) from polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) levels varied from 3.67 – 4.64%, 4.32 – 5.68%, 1.21 – 2.75%, respectively. It was concluded that the proximate composition and types and contents of fatty acids vary depending on species, season and geography.","PeriodicalId":176110,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Environment and Geoinformatics","volume":"15 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139270967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Subway tunnels are critical transportation infrastructures that are constructed to serve residential areas, and thus, they have a direct relationship with residential areas in terms of construction and operation. This study is designed to generate precise data by analyzing ground deformation of metro systems using the Persistent Scatterer (PSI) Interferometry method and utilizing free dataThe Batıkent-Törekent metro line in Ankara is identified with the M3 code. At the location where M3 metro passes, ground deformation has been detected. In the analysis of the relevant location, both ascending and descending Sentinel-1 satellite datasets were used. The StaMPS (Stanford Method for Persistent Scatterers)/PSI (approach was utilized in the study. It was found that the results obtained from the ascending datasets were more sensitive. Observations were made in two different periods using ascending datasets: 2015-2016 and 2017-2022. Deformations were observed in the Line of Sight (LOS) direction in the locations where rail systems and tunnels were present. Eight months after the observation, due to the ground deformation in the area, passenger safety was at risk, and a ground strengthening work was carried out, resulting in a 16-day shutdown of the metro system in this location. While 281 university students were included in the study, \"Environmental Behavior Scale (EBS)\" and \"Adult Ecological Intelligence Scale (EISIFA)\" were used to measure the data. Descriptive statistics, independent sample T test, one-way analysis of variance ANOVA and Post hoc tests, Pearson Correlation test and regression analysis were used in the analysis of the data. In this study, internal reliability coefficients were determined as .89 for EBS and .83 for EISIFA. It can be said that the participating university students exhibited a high level of EISIFA (4.01 ± 0.54) and a moderate level of EBS (3.45 ± 0.62). It was determined that there were significant differences between the participants' gender, age, perceived income, department, taking lessons about environment, attending a course, seminar or talk on about the environment, efficient use of leisure time, participation in activities using natural resources and EBS and EISIFA. It has been determined that the activities that most done at leisure time do not significantly differentiate EBS and EISIFA. On the other hand, it was determined that there was a moderately positive (r=.472) relationship between EISIFA and EBS. It was determined that EISIFA level was a significant predictor of EBS (F=79.996; p","PeriodicalId":176110,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Environment and Geoinformatics","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116816313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is an ever-increasing demand for high-resolution bathymetric data for those fields since only a small portion of the world seas and oceans have been explored, observed, and charted so far. There are some sources which provide publicly available global bathymetric data to its stakeholders and users such as widely used European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet) and General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO). In general, it is challenging for researchers to select the best fit for their studies among available datasets, due to the fact that their sole reliability is not well-assessed. The purpose of our study, thus, is to compare those publicly available bathymetric data with field measurements obtained from the surveys carried out by the Office of Navigation, Hydrography and Oceanography for an area of interest in the southeastern Black Sea comprising various characteristics as to the bottom topography (i.e. homogeneous elevation, steep slope, mild slope, etc.). Validation is conducted focusing on these distinct features by means of visual assessment and quantitative comparison. Results reveal that, even though there is an overall agreement, local discrepancies are also present. Nonetheless, GEBCO and EMODnet datasets are proved to be great assets for any hydrospatial application that does not necessarily require high spatial resolution.","PeriodicalId":176110,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Environment and Geoinformatics","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124948072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Building disaster-resilient communities has become the goal of many disaster risk reduction (DRR) frameworks. This study aimed at quantifying the resilience of the population of Mauritius towards natural disasters using statistics drawn from secondary sources of data. A Composite Disaster Resilience Index (CDRI), which ranged from 0 to 100, was established. Four indicators and sixteen sub-indicators which reflected domains of resilience in terms of community capacity, economic, built-up environment and social, were used to develop the CDRI. Geographic Information System (GIS) was used to map the CDRI across 144 administrative areas, which included 124 Village Council Areas (VCAs) and 20 Municipal Council Wards (MCWs), for a visual representation. Resilience indices were classified into least and most resilient. Results showed a spatial variation in resilience levels towards natural disasters across the administrative areas. Nearly fifty percent of the eleven most resilient communities were found in urban areas (MCWs). Twelve administrative areas were the least resilient towards natural disasters and emerged from rural (VCAs) and marginalised areas only. Coastal villages of Grand Sable, Quatre-Soeurs, Bambous-Virieux, Le Morne and Case Noyale formed a cluster of least resilient communities along the East coast. A t-test analysis revealed a statistically significant difference in resilience levels between urban and rural regions at p < 0.05. Results suggested that infrastructure and the social capacity building were likely to be less developed in rural areas than in urban areas. Findings also demonstrated that most VCAs and MCWs performed less well in community resilience when compared to the rest of the dimensions of resilience. Results provided evidence with potential to help decision-makers in the allocation of resources to improve resilience in Mauritius.","PeriodicalId":176110,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Environment and Geoinformatics","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115690733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, these methods assist archaeological excavation strategies. Archaegeophysical methods are basically based on measuring the physical parameter contrast between the buried archaeological remains and the covering environment. In this study, magnetic and ground penetrating radar methods were applied as geophysical methods in order to contribute to excavation planning. The study area is a historical cemetery and has been used as an interment for about 1000 years. With the information obtained from the field, the research depth was planned not to exceed 3 meters in general, but up to 10 meters of information was produced. The study was carried out to determine possible graves in the area outside the walls of Meydan Cemetery in Ahlat (Bitlis) district. After some data-processing applications to the data of the study areas, magnetic and ground penetrating radar anomaly maps were produced and possible excavation sites were determined.","PeriodicalId":176110,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Environment and Geoinformatics","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121852431","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While offering huge volumes of carrying capacity, due to the characteristics of the cargoes they carry, the reliability and environment friendliness of the tanker fleets need to be maintained to ensure safe and reliable transportation without harming human life and the environment. This forms the basis of additional inspection mechanisms to keep tanker ships operationally safe. Ship Inspection Report (SIRE) programme Vessel Inspection Questionnaires (VIQ) inspections form one of the additional inspections complementing the regular Flag State and Port State Inspections. By consulting tanker crew and inspectors as field experts, this study utilizes a quantitative method to propose an approach for minimizing the most observed remarks of SIRE VIQ inspections. The study first classifies the remarks using the Fuzzy DEMATEL approach and further obtains the best possible solution suggestions via the Fuzzy TOPSIS method. The study also offers a complementary choice to add to the existing inspection routine.","PeriodicalId":176110,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Environment and Geoinformatics","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114712284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Surface sediment samples (21) and bedrock samples (5) were collected from Lake Arin. The metal concentrations were obtained from the ICP-OES analysis values. Enrichment Factor (EF), Contamination Factor (CF), Geoaccumulation Index (Igeo) and Toxic Risk Index (TRI), Modified ecological risk index (mER) and Modified Potential Ecological Risk Index (m-PER) were calculated from the ICP-OES data. Our results reveal that the average concentration of the Lake Arin metals is Al > Fe > Mn > Zn > Ni > Co > Pb > Cd > As, in decreasing order. While moderate enrichment was determined for Ni, As and Zn, moderate contamination was detected only for Ni. It was determined there was no contamination in terms of Geoaccumulation Factor, and PER values showed low ecological risk. The second highest EF value belongs to As, which is thought to originate from the use of fossil fuels in the region. As a result of the ecological risk analysis of Lake Arin, it was determined that the metal levels were not at high levels and were not toxic.","PeriodicalId":176110,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Environment and Geoinformatics","volume":"259 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116233746","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, several classification techniques exist, which are roughly classified as pixel-based and object-based classification methods. Based on the foregoing, this study provided an integrated method of deriving land use from a coarse satellite image. Location coordinates of the land uses were acquired with a handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) instrument as primary data. The study classified the image quantitatively (pixel-based) into built-up, water, riparian, cultivated, and uncultivated land cover classes with no mixed pixels, and then qualitatively into educational, commercial, health, residential, and security land use classes that were conflicting due to spectral similarity. The total accuracy and kappa coefficient of the pixel-based land cover classification were 92.5% and 94% respectively. The results showed that residential land use occupied an area of 5500.01ha, followed by educational (2800.69ha); security (411.27ha); health (133.88ha); and commercial (109.01ha) respectively. The integrated method produces a crisp-appearance like the object-based image classification method. It eliminates the \"salt and pepper\" appearance that a traditional pixel-based classification would have. The output can be a vector or raster model depending on the purpose for which it is created.","PeriodicalId":176110,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Environment and Geoinformatics","volume":"266 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133934827","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
