These measures allow the designer to access the software early in the process, making changes that will reduce complexity and improve the continuing capability of the product. Object oriented design metrics is an essential part of software engineering. This paper presents a case study of applying design measures to assess software quality. Six Java based open source software systems are analyzed using CK metrics suite to find out quality of the system and possible design faults that will reversely affect different quality parameters such as reusability, understandability, testability, maintainability. This paper also presents general guidelines for interpretation of reusability, understandability, testability, maintainability in the context of selected projects.","PeriodicalId":175615,"journal":{"name":"2010 3rd International Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering and Technology","volume":"162 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114365344","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The emission and performance characteristics of a 4-stroke spark ignited engine were studied by using gasoline and turmeric leaves oil. The performance and emission parameters of both the fuels were evaluated and compared. The performance parameters investigated were torque, brake mean effective pressure (BMEP), brake power, specific fuel consumption (SFC), and thermal efficiency. Carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrocarbons (HC) and oxides of nitrogen (NOX) exhaust emissions levels are also presented. The results showed that torque and BMEP were slightly lower when the turmeric leaves bio-fuel was used as fuel as compare to gasoline on all engine speeds.","PeriodicalId":175615,"journal":{"name":"2010 3rd International Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering and Technology","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116351758","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the practical difficulty of conducting experiments on varied array sizes, a generalized MATLAB M-code has been developed for any required array size, configuration and shading patterns. The proposed model can provide sufficient degree of precision without increasing the computational effort. On performing the analysis on various configurations, a new configuration, modified bridge has been proposed in this paper. The comparative study of these configurations is made for different random shading patterns to determine which configuration is less susceptible to power losses under partial shading. Results are discussed in detail and some recommendations are extracted by testing several shading scenarios. The results are verified practically using electronic load.","PeriodicalId":175615,"journal":{"name":"2010 3rd International Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering and Technology","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132551194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These include banking, travel and secure access to social security services. While biometrics have been deployed with various choices as face, finger print, etc the importance to higher levels of security have influenced two things. One is of finding newer and more universal biometrics and other of multimodal options. Recently, hand vein based person verification has attracted increased attention. The reason seems to be that hand vein patterns are unique, universal and invariant over time and extremely non intrusive. In this paper, we analyze hand vein biometric in unimodal status and also in combination with palm print in multimodal situation. One of the key aspects of this is extracting hand vein features. It is here that the standard edge detection masks yield poor result. We then propose using non standard edge mask in schemes to accurately extract the hand vein pattern which in turn is classified using Kernel Direct Discriminant Analysis (KDDA) to make the decision about accept/reject. The performance of the proposed non-standard edge masks are compared with conventional edge detection masks and statistical validation of the results are presented with 90% confidence interval. Robustness of such scheme is analyzed by evaluating these algorithms and schemes on data corrupted by noise. The final results show the efficacy of our schemes.","PeriodicalId":175615,"journal":{"name":"2010 3rd International Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering and Technology","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131123831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The residual battery level of a node in an ad-hoc network is a very critical and crucial resource as the life of the node is determined it. In this paper, our intention is to conserve the battery power of a node. To accomplish this, we make an effort to apply Nash Equilibrium and the underlying Game Theory concepts to an ad-hoc network in a dynamic way. We define an ad-hoc network model and identify the conditions under which the nodes participating in the communication can form equilibrium. We are following a distributed approach in calculating the routes to a destination depending on the individual battery energy of each of the nodes in that route. For this we are using Nash Equilibrium as a greedy algorithm, dynamically, to determine whether a node will use its battery power for routing packets through it.","PeriodicalId":175615,"journal":{"name":"2010 3rd International Conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering and Technology","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132830805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Personalized recommendation methods are primarily classified into content-based recommendation approach and collaborative filtering recommendation approach. Both recommendation approaches have their own advantages, drawbacks and complementarities. Because conventional recommendation techniques don’t consider the contextual information, the real factor why a customer likes a specific product is unable to be understood. Therefore, in reality, it often causes a decrease in the accuracy of the recommendation results and also persuades the recommendation quality. In this paper, we propose the integrated contextual information as the foundation concept of multidimensional recommendation model and use the Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) ability of data warehousing to solve the contradicting tribulations among hierarchy ratings.
