Powering these computing resources to provide this service comes with a high operating cost. As the use of cloud computing has become considerably widespread, the workloads provided and computational demands placed upon cloud computing infrastructures have become extremely diverse. Accompanying this, the computational resources available for cloud computing infrastructures are also growing in diversity, yielding heterogeneous computing systems. Through the adoption of heterogeneous computing devices, such as the Graphics Processing Unit, cloud computing providers have a potential avenue for supplying enhanced computational performance with reduced power consumption and in turn, reduced operating cost. In this paper, we show that enhancing heterogeneity through the incorporation of multiple computational accelerators increases performance while also decreasing energy consumption. The benefits provided by heterogeneous computational accelerators leads to improved service rates and operating costs for cloud computing centers.","PeriodicalId":174838,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 6th International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud (FiCloud)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128394339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However interoperability within different healthcare systems (clinics/hospitals/pharmacies) remains an issue of further research due to a lack of collaboration and exchange of healthcare information. To solve this problem, cross healthcare system collaboration is required. This paper proposes a conceptual semantic based healthcare collaboration framework based on Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure that is able to offer a secure cross system information and knowledge exchange between different healthcare systems seamlessly that is readable by both machines and humans. In the proposed framework, an intelligent semantic gateway is introduced where a web application with restful Application Programming Interface (API) is used to expose the healthcare information of each system for collaboration. A case study that exposed the patient's data between two different healthcare systems was practically demonstrated where a pharmacist can access the patient's electronic prescription from the clinic.","PeriodicalId":174838,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 6th International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud (FiCloud)","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133991666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data location is rated as the top challenge for enterprise to implement the cloud strategy. It is a common practice that hybrid cloud of large organizations is partitioned into several infrastructure domains. The partition could be driven by multiple factors, eg. security, geolocation, cost and so on. Therefore, the data location control in multi-domain infrastructure environment is an intriguing area of hybrid cloud management. A policy based method to manage application deployment in hybrid cloud environment is proposed. The method overview is introduced and a proof of concept prototype is implemented. The experimentations in empirical scenarios are made to provide us some insights. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method is effective in controlling data location and improving deployment efficiency.","PeriodicalId":174838,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 6th International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud (FiCloud)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122539695","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The energy consumption and ineffective resource utilization can lead to an increase in the operational cost of cloud provider side, which in turn increases the cloud services cost at cloud consumer side. One of the effective techniques to address these issues in cloud datacenters is the server consolidation by allowing multiple virtual machines (VMs) include varying workload to host in a single physical machine. This leads to an increase in the resource utilization, and reduced power consumption by turning off the idle physical machines. However, consolidating the virtual machines due to varying workload in cloud applications can cause a violation of service level agreement. In this paper, we propose a model based on linear and logistic regression to detect overloaded hosts by dynamically generating rules based on historical data of hosts and datacenter in order to update association functions to address and adapt the changes of different types of workloads running on the cloud provider datacenter. The experiments and simulation results based on dynamic workloads show the proposed algorithm significantly outperforms the other competitive host detection algorithms.","PeriodicalId":174838,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 6th International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud (FiCloud)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131107037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kadoch","doi":"10.1109/FiCloud.2018.00047","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/FiCloud.2018.00047","url":null,"abstract":"The mobility in Vehicular Ad-Hoc NETworks (VANETs) causes high topology changes and in turn leads to excessive control overhead messages and frequent link communication failures. Traditionally, clustering techniques have been used as the main solution to improve the stability of the clustered topology and to minimize the routing overhead messages generated due to the routing protocols. In the clustering techniques, the network is divided into multiple clusters and selecting one of the Cluster Members (CMs) as a Cluster Head (CH). Still, a problem occurs when the CMs periodically forwards of CM HELLO (CMHELLO) messages to the CH. Also, when the CH periodically broadcasts an CH ADvertiSement (CHADS) messages to announce itself to the CMs. Hence, minimizing control overhead messages in any cluster environment is an essential goal to efficiently use the network resources. In this paper, we propose an Enhanced Control Overhead messages Reduction Algorithm (ECORA) with the goal to reduce the CHADS messages that broadcasted by the CHs. Finally, we evaluate the performance of our proposed algorithm by comparing with other similar contributions.","PeriodicalId":174838,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 6th International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud (FiCloud)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125618343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The biggest challenge of the IoT systems is that the systems collect a massive amount of uncertain data from diverse IoT devices, where the devices are connected through the internet. In addition to that, some events are inferred from other events and uncertainty is propagated from parent events to the inferred events, which additionally contributes to overall system uncertainty. The observed complex events are a complex relationship of primitive events that are produced by IoT devices and collected in IoT system. There were a couple of attempts to quantify the system uncertainty by estimating the likelihood of the occurrence of events of interest while taking into account the uncertain data and uncertain parameters of the model of the physical system with rule-based complex event processing and/or Bayesian network. These methods were implemented as stand-alone software solutions that are unable to scale under heavy loads of incoming events. This paper proposes a micro-service based notification methodology that uses complex event recognition to handle the IoT system uncertainty.","PeriodicalId":174838,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 6th International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud (FiCloud)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114638272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To face such dynamism and volatility, adaptation of composite SaaS to the runtime changes is a vital requirement. Recent research focused on centralized environments which are impractical for dynamic composition that requires distributed settings. To address this challenge, this paper proposes a distributed approach for composite SaaS adaptation using feature selection through applying the master/slave pattern. Slaves locally monitor the distributed constituent services and send performance information to the master, which in its turn reconfigures the composite services to provide the expected QoS and monitors the overall performance. Since adapting a composite SaaS to be QoS-optimal depends on multiple criteria according to the selected features, e.g., performance and cost, we model the adaptation process as a multi-objective optimization problem and then propose a genetic algorithm to compute the Pareto-optimal set of solutions for this problem. Experimental results show that our approach is efficient in distributed and large-scale environments compared to the centralized approach.","PeriodicalId":174838,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 6th International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud (FiCloud)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114750115","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Routines can be categorized on the basis of some discernible properties like frequency, recurrence and periodicity. Commonly researched solutions to discover routines/activities of daily living are based on topic modeling or association rule mining (ARM). Both ARM and topic modeling based approaches are computationally expensive and do not acknowledge routine categorization, hence are not guaranteed to discover all different kinds of routines. In this paper we propose a simple, efficient and unsupervised framework for routine discovery in smart homes based by exploiting properties of routines which categorize them. We define and leverage such properties to discover routines utilizing an iterative algorithm, where routines from a specific category are discovered at each iteration. We have demonstrated a routine discovery system FIBI by implementing the framework and have achieved more than 80% recall and more than 90% precision across different categories of routines defined under FIBI, across three different market segments - social climber, affluent nester and urban dweller.","PeriodicalId":174838,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 6th International Conference on Future Internet of Things and Cloud (FiCloud)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124598903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
