In this context, there is a growing concern about the use of energy storage for overcoming the intermittency of renewable energy sources as well as in demand side management. In order to accomplish grid synchronization of energy storage, proper power conditioning devices are required. This paper analyses single phase grid synchronization of DC energy storage using MATLAB Simulink® environment. The considered power conditioning device is a Voltage Source Inverter (VSI), which is controlled using two methods called (i) traditional Zero Crossing Detection (ZCD) technique and (ii) the phase detector based Phase Locked Loop (PLL) technique. This work provides a comparative study of these two techniques with power quality/total harmonic distortions using low pas filter configuration.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130184810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has wide ranging applications from Human-computer interactions in computer vision to behavioral sciences and clinical practice in Psychology. Although, for humans recognizing facial expressions comes effortlessly, it is not so at the machine-level. To achieve, effective and efficient recognition of these varied expressions like in our brain, at machine-level, still remains a challenge. In this paper, morphological operations, statistical formulas and image processing techniques have been used to come up with a more efficient Facial Expression Recognition algorithm, using any frontal posed image. The entire process of facial expression recognition is divided into four categories, that is, Face detection, Facial feature localization using morphological operations, facial feature extraction using statistical formulas and finally, facial feature classification using neural networks. Facial expressions have been classified into six categories that are: joy, neutral, anger, sad, surprise and disgust.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131468163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This can cause high line losses, low load voltages under heavy load and high load voltages under low load, due to the Ferranti Effect. Several technological solutions are available in the market that can address these problems. However, selecting the most feasible and cost effective solution is always a challenge for the distribution companies. This paper systematically investigates a real life voltage drop and unbalance compensation problem and proposes feasible an d economical solution for a medium voltage distribution line managed by a power distribution company in Queensland Australia.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131905273","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of these techniques use Euclidean distance based algorithms such as k-nearest neighbors in the matching phase. This paper introduces a selective parameter weighting technique to enhance clustering conformity. The parameter weighting increases inter-cluster distance while reducing the intra-cluster distance, which in turn improves accuracy. This paper also extends this idea, to generate aggregated clusters that group existing clusters into umbrella clusters. This enables two phases of clustering. First an unknown location is matched to a region containing several grid points, after which the exact location is found within the region. Once the feature space is constructed as mentioned above, principal component analysis is used to reduce it to a set of uncorrelated radio maps which capture all the unique features inherent to each location. This work makes use of audible sound for the construction of radio maps and fingerprints. However, the concepts introduced here may easily be adapted for other types of fingerprinting such as Wi-Fi based fingerprinting etc.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125232433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fingerprinting is used for representing unknown words character by character. Ordering and sequencing of signs corresponding to the words/phrases of a natural language are the most essential features of animating a sign language. This paper presents a multi-facet 3D avatar and an animation system for Sinhala Sign language (SSL) which supports the definition and animation of sign gestures without video sequencing or motion capture hardware. The animation system animates upper body of the avatar and consists of 29 bones per arm. Speed and uniformity of the sign gesture animation is achieved by automatically calculating the intermediate and transitional sequences of arm movements of signs within a given number of frames, or with a user defined displacement value per bone. Avatar animation system also supports the definition of fingerprinting signs, with a user defined tag set corresponding to the alphabet of any given sign language. Presented prototype consists of 200 known signs and 40 fingerprinting signs of SSL defined in its sign database and having the capability of animating any sentence in Sinhala language in SSL.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132885139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This practice is considered to have many flaws specifically from a construction and financial point of view and it is this lack of diversity, which this paper will be focusing on. Because of not giving due consideration for diversity, many transformers are largely oversized and as such can easily put strain on low budget contracts issued by clients as larger transformers not only cost more for the unit itself but will also increase structural support costs to adequately support the increased size and weight that the unit will have. The difficulty in attempting to create a more optimized transformer design is attributed to having to understand the ship loader operations at key intervals since maximum demand is the maximum load at certain time intervals. This paper outlines the process undertaken to lower the maximum design electrical load for the transformer of the ship loader. It also provides redesigned transformer specifications, which will be compared with specifications of similar designs carried out without considering diversity.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":" 37","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133020594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dictionary and building the language model require non-English text, in our case, Sinhala Unicode, to be transcribed in phonetic English text. Unlike text to speech conversions which only require transcribing the non- English text to phonetic English text, an ASR needs correct reproduction of the original language text when the phonetic English text is produced as the output of the speech recognizer. In the present research, newspaper articles are used to gather a large set of sentences to build a language model having thousands of words for the Sphinx ASR. We present a decoder algorithm that produces phonetic English text from Sinhala Unicode text and an encoder algorithm that produces the correct reproduction of Unicode Sinhala text from phonetic English. For a near phonetic tag set for Sinhala alphabet, results indicate 100% accuracy for the decoder algorithm while for numberless text, accuracy of the encoder algorithm stands at 98.61% for distinct phonetic English words.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122670581","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since, web usage patterns are available at a high rate and a high volume and also continuously updating in a real time environment, must be handled through modern big data architectures supported by powerful real time big data processing tools. Web generated log streams have most significant impact when it is feasible to analyze them at a time when they are emitted. In proposed research work, an advanced stream analytics framework especially for web generated log streams has been proposed by using the dataset of web access logs representing HTTP requests received by NASA Kennedy Space Center Server. The proposed framework can resourcefully handle the challenging issues associated to manage multiple web based log streams that are distributed across a fleet of web based applications and present a summarized view of statistical profile of web based applications which may be useful for web usage mining.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131679002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
