Model transformations and compositions are the heart of MDD and allow the development of complex systems and their automated derivation. Moreover, software development of large and complex systems uses a collection of models, where model composition and decomposition are required. Various research studies have been done on specifying and executing MDD processes; however only a few of those have considered the validity of such transformations, thus safe composition and decomposition of models. This paper presents a general approach for model composition for the transformation from UML sequence diagrams to Coloured Petri Nets and validates the correctness of model composition using a mathematical proof. These transformations are based on formal rules, which have already been proven to be strongly consistent.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"145 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134034527","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This helps in classification of normal respiratory sounds from abnormal respiratory sounds and this can be used to accurately diagnose respiratory diseases as is done by a medical practitioner via auscultation. This process has subjective nature and that is why simple auscultation cannot be relied upon. A computer aided diagnostic system which analyzes respiratory sounds can be very helpful in detection of various respiratory diseases such as pneumonia, asthma, bronchitis and tuberculosis. In this paper we present a novel method for automated detection of crackles which indicate severity of a respiratory disease. The proposed system consists of four modules i.e., pre-processing in which noise is filtered out, followed by feature extraction. The proposed system then performs feature selection based on rank tests and finally classification to separate crackles from normal breath sounds.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127087784","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the widely used CAPTCHA systems are designed with desktop users in mind hence lack the native look and feel when they are used on mobile devices. The reason is the way people interact with desktop/laptop computer using mouse and keyboard is different from the way they interact with mobile devices using touch and other gestures. Also, the screen size and the dimension of the viewing display plays a role in the interaction. Here, we present a novel CAPTCHA system designed for mobile devices and results of the usability study that we conducted with an implementation of the same. This CAPTCHA system is composed of multipart image reconstruction and orientation identification. Although, this is an intuitive task for humans, it is very hard to automate using a computer system. The main advantages of our system over traditional systems are native mobile look and feel, language/culture independent, and gesture-based interaction.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127482211","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method relay on two main phases: identification of turned on appliance combination in a given time period and estimation of the active power consumption signal of each individual appliances in that combination. Unlike most existing NILM method that rely on multiple measurement at high sampling rates, appliances identification of this paper rely on a Karhunen Loéve (KL) expansion based spectral signature approach which only need active power measurements at a low sampling rate. Then the estimation of the power signal of the identified appliances is newly presented in this paper based on modified version of mean-shift clustering algorithm and Bayesian classification. The proposed method was validated by using two public databases: tracebase and REDD. The presented results demonstrate the ability of the proposed method to accurately estimate individual active power signal of turned on appliance combinations in real households.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116041387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper the authors present the design and implementation of a simple yet effective Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) system. It uses the colour, texture and shape features. The searching is multi-level with three main consequent searching steps. This proposed system is unique as it considers one feature at each step and uses the results of the prior step as the input for the next step in multi-level manner whereas in past methods all the features are fused at once for the single-level search of a typical CBIR system. The proposed approach is simple and easy to adopt. The retrieval quality of the proposed approach is evaluated using two benchmark datasets for image classification. The proposed system shows good results in terms of improvement in retrieval quality, in comparison with the literature.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"147 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116087639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Maintaining the optimum environmental conditions to promote healthy growth of the embryos is the primary responsibility of an IVF incubator. The major limitation among various types of incubators currently available in the market is the fluctuation of environmental conditions following every door opening to examine only one embryo, affecting all embryos in the common compartment. This elevates embryo stress leading to lower IVF success rates. This paper outlines; the incubation process, issues perceived during the incubation process, the introduction to a novel incubator design to overcome the outlined limitations and the presentation of a prototype for the proposed design.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122123308","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Constitutional sinusoidal term provides the amplitude and phase information, which are presented by the unique value. Amplitude values indicate the unimodal and bimodal changes in the time series data. The development of a monitoring procedure at regional level is still a challenging task, as it requires satellite images that have an adequate spatial resolution, high temporal resolution, wide geographical coverage and minimum cost. In this paper, Harmonic or Fourier analysis on 6-year (2007 to 2012) time series of MODIS (Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) 8-day best composite images of land surface reflectance and surface temperature have been used to observe the periodic changes in greenness and land temperature over the Jharia Coal Field (JCF) region, India. Also, a comparative study has been done by using the first and second harmonic amplitude and additive term (averaged NDVI image) images to generate the RGB color composite images to interpret the winter and summer time periodic temporal changes.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121969385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Named Entities (NEs) are special atomic elements in natural languages belonging to predefined categories such as persons, organizations, locations, expressions of times, quantities, monetary values and percentages etc. These are referring to specific things and not listed in grammar or lexicons. NER is the task of identifying such NEs. This is a task entwined with number of challenges. Entities may be difficult to find at first, and once found, difficult to classify. For instance, locations and person names can be the same, and follow similar formatting. This becomes tough when it comes to South and South East Asian languages. That is mainly due to the nature of these languages. Even though Latin languages have accurate NER solutions those cannot be directly applied for Indic languages, because the features found in those languages are different from English. Therefore the research was based on producing a mathematical model which acts as the integral part of the Sinhala NER system. The researchers used Sinhala News corpus as the data set to train the Conditional Random Fields (CRFs) algorithm. 90% of the corpus was used in training the model, 10% is used in testing the resulted model. The research makes use of orthographic word-level features along with contextual information, which are helpful in predicting three different NE classes namely Persons, Locations and Organizations. The findings of the research were applied in developing the NE Annotator which identified NE classes from unstructured Sinhala text. The prominent contribution of this research for NER could benefit Sinhala NLP application developers and NLP related researchers in near future.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127921688","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Majority of the current research has considered the service time as the measurement of elevator performance while the engineering culture is gradually trending towards the greener technology that weighs the lower energy consumption of elevator systems as a desirable feature for building designs. From service time optimization techniques of the existing body of research a technique based on a trip scheduling model and the branch and bound algorithm is independently replicated to study its capacity to produce competitive results. Then the optimization criterion is modified by adding an energy consumption measure of the elevator group. Several result sets over different dimensions of the problem space were recorded to evaluate this approach. It is shown that newly proposed technique can achieve better energy consumption measures in a range of configurations of the problem space with better or approximately equal service time performance. The overall energy consumption reduction is 20% in the generic scenario while the service time advantage is 13%. The stability of the algorithm is also shown for mid and high rise buildings.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"224 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128176947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, this problem becomes more challenging when a limited number of training samples are available as is the case for expression invariant face identification for surveillance and security applications. This paper proposes a simple and effective method that can be integrated into any face and expression recognition system to improve the overall recognition accuracy even under limitation of training samples. In this approach, neutral component of the expressive image is estimated utilizing prior information obtained from different subjects under the same expression. Basically by analyzing the impact of a particular expression on a neutral face a nullification process is developed to convert the expressive image to a neutral face. In order to make it justifiable to utilize common expression information for different subjects, an alignment strategy is employed where for each expression a specific expression template is used, and the images are warped to their corresponding expression face template. After negating the facial expression from the expressive images, principal component analysis (PCA) is applied to reduce the dimension and cosine similarity matching is used for classification. The experimental results on Cohn-Kanade database exhibit the effectiveness of the proposed method even when there is a single training sample per class is available in the database.","PeriodicalId":174378,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial and Information Systems (ICIIS)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129992483","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
