In this way, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications can be performed using two communication modes, namely cellular communication based on uplink/downlink and direct V2V communications using sidelink. By properly selecting the operating mode according to the requirements of V2X services, significant operational benefits and efficient utilization of the spectrum can be achieved. In this paper, we propose a mode selection algorithm to avoid overload in the sidelink resources. A simulation-based analysis is presented to assess the performance of the proposed solution.","PeriodicalId":173858,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 23rd International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115699919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed solution relies on an approach that considers the computational complexity and the network load to adjust the frequency of measurements while considering the estimation accuracy. Accordingly, the proposed system allows the Internet Service Provider (ISP) to monitor the network QoE level accurately without overloading the network by considering different Influence Factors (IFs). Some preliminary results are shown in terms of accuracy of estimations and computational complexity in case of video streaming service.","PeriodicalId":173858,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 23rd International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115761528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper extends our previous contribution on this subject by detailing a novel system level simulator built upon SimuLTE/OMNeT + + to assess quality of experience (QoE)-aware management policies in real LTE networking conditions with Voice over IP and video streaming traffic patterns. The results demonstrate that an accurate choice of the design parameters both at the application layer and at the network layer is paramount to achieve acceptable QoE levels over the time.","PeriodicalId":173858,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 23rd International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129450854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As intelligence is imported in embedded equipment, the system becomes able to provide smart services (e.g. control lights, airconditioning, provide energy management services etc.). IoT is the main enabler of such environments. However, the interconnection of these cyber-physical systems and the processing of personal data raise serious security and privacy issues. In this paper we present a framework that can guarantee Security, Privacy, Dependability and Interoperability (SPDI) in IoT. Taking advantage of the underlying IoT deployment, the proposed framework not only implements the requested smart functionality but also provide modelling and administration that can guarantee those SPDI properties. Moreover, we provide an application example of the framework in a smart building scenario.","PeriodicalId":173858,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 23rd International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116904557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most cloud-based big data processing systems are designed for general-purpose workloads, neglecting spatial-characteristics. However, interesting analytics often seek answers for proximity-alike queries. We fill this gap by providing custom geospatial service layer atop of Apache Spark. To be more specific, we leverage Spark to design a custom spatial-aware partitioning method to boost geospatial query performances. Our results show that our patches outperform state-of-the-art implementations by significant fractions.","PeriodicalId":173858,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 23rd International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124410851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this reason, future networks are expected to incorporate telemetry and analytics tools able to support the different management procedures. In this context, this paper presents the monitoring and analytics framework that is being developed by the 5G ESSENCE project for optimising the provision of Small Cell as a Service in multi-tenant scenarios. The paper discusses the different components of the framework and illustrates its capabilities for the optimisation of the cloud resource allocation and the Radio Access Network.","PeriodicalId":173858,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 23rd International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124665763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to allow tag addressing, communication, and localization by external readers, the IC performs a back-scattering modulation of a sequence of received UWB pulses according to specific spreading codes. For this purpose a UWB RF switch is designed and connected to the UWB antenna. The adoption of backscattering is integral to achieve ultra-low power wireless communication. The use of quasi-orthogonal spreading codes allows communication and localization with multiple tags at the same time. The IC includes a low-power sensing interface suitable for internal temperature sensing or external capacitive sensors. The power required for operation is scavenged from an UHF signal and converted by means of an internal RF rectifier and of a dynamically reconfigurable charge pump circuit. An on-chip micropower oscillator clocks a digital control circuit. The circuit is implemented in a $0.18 mu mathrm{m}$ CMOS process. The architecture of the IC and preliminary test results are disclosed.","PeriodicalId":173858,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 23rd International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129485868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A comparison under frequency variation and time-varying harmonic and inter-harmonic condition is also discussed in order to show the method robustness. The scheme is based on a frequency-locked loop operating integrated with a decomposition core, which utilizes a recursive implementation of a modified Hanning filter. The frequency value information is used to perform the modulation and demodulation required to make de decomposition into the core. The compared frequency estimation scheme is based on a zero-crossing with an interpolation correction. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme is able to estimate the fundamental component, including relative quadrature companion signal and the frequency value more accurately and stably than the scheme used to perform the comparison.","PeriodicalId":173858,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 23rd International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129717332","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To mitigate this, a collaborative circular economy business model is proposed, where the circular economy cycle is materialized by assets transitioning between asset operators on a demanddriven approach. Demand itself is partially based on the asset’s state, which is described by its circular properties (location, condition, availability). The asset state and its transition between operators can be monitored by auditors and governmental regulators to ensure asset integrity and compliance with environmental targets. This common view of asset state between all parties can be enabled by blockchains and smart contracts, which can provide the underlying technology to share data with integrity, while simultaneously offering more efficient interoperability between participants. To demonstrate how this could be achieved, a conceptual asset record access and sharing mechanism is presented which is suitable for regulated environmental jurisdictions.","PeriodicalId":173858,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 23rd International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125383674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this regard, many well-known algorithms are designed building on the assumption of signal subspace separation among user equipments (UEs), which is hardly satisfied in practice. To cope with this issue, our prior work introduced the concept of covariance shaping to enforce statistical orthogonality by exploiting the multiple antennas at the UE-side in the simple case of two UEs. This paper focuses on: i) extending the covariance shaping approach to a more general multi-user setting, and ii) evaluating its performance in several realistic scenarios, providing useful insights into its behavior and practical implementation.","PeriodicalId":173858,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 23rd International Workshop on Computer Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125536261","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
