As their applications move beyond the laboratory, practical considerations including size, complexity, and power consumption become important. Here, we compare two commonly-employed NV magnetometry techniques -- continuous-wave (CW) vs pulsed magnetic resonance -- in a scenario limited by total available optical power. We develop a consistent theoretical model for the magnetic sensitivity of each protocol that incorporates NV photophysics - in particular, including the incomplete spin polarization associated with limited optical power; after comparing the models' behaviour to experiments, we use them to predict the relative DC sensitivity of CW versus pulsed operation for an optical-power-limited, shot-noise-limited NV ensemble magnetometer. We find a $sim 2-3 times$ gain in sensitivity for pulsed operation, which is significantly smaller than seen in power-unlimited, single-NV experiments. Our results provide a resource for practical sensor development, informing protocol choice and identifying optimal operation regimes when optical power is constrained.","PeriodicalId":17280,"journal":{"name":"Journal of The Optical Society of America B-optical Physics","volume":"107 45","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135136961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At present, the all-optical half-adder implemented by traditional methods cannot easily be further compressed in size, which also limits the development of its integration. In this paper, four optical devices, the power beam splitter, waveguide cross, XOR gate, and AND gate, are designed by the inverse design method. Their footprint is only 2µm×2µm, and they have extremely low insertion loss and high contrast ratio. These devices are further interconnected with waveguides to realize an all-optical half-adder module with a size of only 10µm×4.5µm. When working at 1550 nm, the module exhibits contrast ratios of 14.47 dB and 5.14 dB for SUM and CARRY, respectively. These photonic devices have the characteristics of ultra-compact size and high performance, rendering them highly valuable for photonic integrated circuits.","PeriodicalId":17280,"journal":{"name":"Journal of The Optical Society of America B-optical Physics","volume":" 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135293278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The THz absorption in optically excited WSe 2 rises rapidly in the low THz field regime and gradually ramps up at high intensities. The strong THz pulses drive the photocarriers into sidebands of higher mobility and release trapped charge carriers, which consequently enhance the transient conductivity of WSe 2 . The spectrally analyzed conductivity reveals distinctive features, indicating that the photocarriers undergo resonant interactions such as carrier-photon scattering.","PeriodicalId":17280,"journal":{"name":"Journal of The Optical Society of America B-optical Physics","volume":" 30","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135293133","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We show that transmission curves for OVs feature a characteristic gap-like structure, whose presence we explain as a manifestation of the band structure of an infinite stack of coupled ring resonators. We show a principal possibility to use SMRs as elements of delay lines for fiber optics communications on orbital angular momentum (OAM) states. We emphasize the advantages of such systems as delay lines for communications that use as signal carriers odd and even Laguerre–Gaussian (LG) modes. We also show that SMRs are able to exert super-efficient parametric control over the OAM of the transmitted optical field, as well as to generate OAM beams from odd and even LG modes.","PeriodicalId":17280,"journal":{"name":"Journal of The Optical Society of America B-optical Physics","volume":" 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135293274","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
