Progressively, ghost imaging has advanced from single-pixel scanning systems to two-dimensional (2D) digital projective masks, which offer a reduction in image reconstruction times through shorter integration times. In this tutorial, we describe the essential ingredients in an all-digital quantum ghost imaging experiment and guide the user on important considerations and choices to make, aided by practical examples of implementation. We showcase several image reconstruction algorithms using two different 2D projective mask types and discuss the utility of each. We additionally discuss a notable artifact of a specific reconstruction algorithm and projective mask combination and detail how this artifact can be used to retrieve an image signal heavily buried under artifacts. Finally, we end with a brief discussion on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning techniques used to reduce image reconstruction times. We believe that this tutorial will be a useful guide to those wishing to enter the field, as well as those already in the field who wish to introduce AI and machine learning to their toolbox.","PeriodicalId":17280,"journal":{"name":"Journal of The Optical Society of America B-optical Physics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134993766","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here, we show how to optimize the efficiency and modal purity in the nonlinear conversion of structured light modes. Using difference frequency generation of orbital angular momentum carrying Laguerre–Gaussian modes as an example, we achieved more than a 40% rise in efficiency while maintaining the modal purity above 90% compared to conventional methods. To demonstrate the versatility of our approach, we show the frequency conversion of perfect vortex beams up to ℓ =40 in a topological charge, achieving a new state of the art. We believe this theoretical treatment will facilitate our work’s translation to other modal forms and nonlinear processes.","PeriodicalId":17280,"journal":{"name":"Journal of The Optical Society of America B-optical Physics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134993618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We derive analytical expressions for the power spectral density of the backscattered Stokes wave in the general case of passive and amplifying optical fibers, by considering the strain and optical power distributions. Our method provides an accurate prediction of the SBS gain spectrum, which we illustrate with a quantitative comparison between measurements and calculations of the SBS Stokes spectra, before and after applying the compression gradient. Our experimental results demonstrate the successful enhancement of the SBS threshold power by a factor of about three for the passive fiber and two for the amplifying fiber. The enhancement that we manage to calculate in the case of the passive fiber is in perfect agreement with the experimental results.","PeriodicalId":17280,"journal":{"name":"Journal of The Optical Society of America B-optical Physics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134993606","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The brightness of the output photon can be much larger than that of the hot reservoir, and its efficiency could be larger than that of the Carnot engine [ Phys. Rev. A 94 , 053859 ( 2016 ) PLRAAN 1050-2947 10.1103/PhysRevA.94.053859 ]. The core element of the mechanism is an interference effect called electromagnetically induced transparency caused by the coupling field, which is commonly a perfect laser without any random change in the phase. In this paper, we investigate a more realistic model where the temporal fluctuation of the coupling field is considered. By applying the laws of thermodynamics in the analysis, we find that in addition to the reduced power of the engine, a relatively strong fluctuation changes the properties of the system radically, even making it lose the quality of being a heat engine. We have found the corresponding criteria for the maximal allowed fluctuation. The entropy changes when the engine works below the laser threshold suggest that the effect of the fluctuation is equivalent to increasing the temperature of the cold reservoir.","PeriodicalId":17280,"journal":{"name":"Journal of The Optical Society of America B-optical Physics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134993622","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here, we propose an efficient scheme to generate quadrature squeezing in a cavity optomagnonical system. Taking the magnon–photon interaction induced by the Faraday effect into consideration, we report that a strong quadrature squeezing can be achieved in the effective resonant cavity modes that obey the mode-splitting theory of Bogoliubov transformation. Using experimentally achievable parameters, we illustrate that increasing the magnon–photon coupling strength or input field intensity contributes to improving both the output spectral intensity and the amount of squeezing of the spectra, where perfect squeezing is only located at the position of the single resonant cavity mode. Interestingly enough, the nearly perfect quadrature squeezing at the double frequencies of the effective resonant cavity modes can be achieved by adjusting the input field frequency and intensity.","PeriodicalId":17280,"journal":{"name":"Journal of The Optical Society of America B-optical Physics","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134993768","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
