This paper presents an implementation of the Universal Smart Energy Framework (USEF) through a multiagent system and a novel semantic web ontology, which aligns and enriches relevant existing standards. USEF provides a common specification of the market processes and information exchange but does not specify the internal reasoning of the different roles involved. The authors explain the systematic design and development process from the requirements of the energy-flexibility value chain to software implementation. The underpinning ontology formalizes a domain perspective which is coherent with existing standards, and is sufficient for the agent-oriented implementation of the mentioned framework. As well as contributing this model as a web ontology artifact, the presented work utilizes metaprogramming to transform the domain model into a standard agent communication language ontology. The research reported in this paper is expected to lead towards efficient and scalable development of decision support and automation software for smart grids.","PeriodicalId":171503,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2)","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124845012","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has helped to mature several fields of research within the smart city domain, such as the internet of things, cybernetics, and informatics. However, these fields of research remain siloed, which leads to a clear gap in the literature. The paper recognizes the mentioned gap manifesting in a new smart urban area in Wales, UK, and presents a platform which intends to demonstrate the benefits of exploiting the synergies between these fields of research. Following consultation with various stakeholders at the pilot site, the platform utilizes advanced sensing, analytics, interoperability, and visualization components to provide valuable human-machine interactions to facility managers in the district. Delivering this high value knowledge in a timely, engaging, and accessible manner through advanced decision support interfaces. The paper presents the platform's software architecture, before discussing the decision support interface, intelligent web services, and interoperability components in more detail. The solution's key contributions beyond existing internet of things platforms are the use of a 3D game engine, machine learning and optimization web services, and the integration across the knowledge value chain. This knowledge integration is achieved through semantic modelling of the buildings, urban environment, socio-technical systems, and smart devices in the district.","PeriodicalId":171503,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128100704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A digitally enhanced world makes it possible to optimize our energy use and to offer more comfortable traffic management. However, we still need to investigate how to interact with a hybrid world. Augmented reality and virtual reality techniques offer promising ways for interacting with a digitally enhanced world, but our current understanding of how to use them in the real world is insufficient. This paper exploits some important issues to design future smart environments to integrate virtuality into the real world for enriching the interaction with the real world.","PeriodicalId":171503,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131316744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data utilized in this study covers the demographic information and associated energy consumption of consumers. The anonymization process is implemented at the prosumer level, considering their importance in sharing flexibility and distributed generation at the low voltage grid, and the fact that they need to interact with each other and the grid while keeping their data private. The proposed approach is tested under three anonymization scenarios: prosecutor, journalist and marketer. The smart grid data are investigated mostly under the prosecutor scenario with three risk levels: lowest, medium and highest. The results of the k-anonymity approach are compared to k-map and k-map + k-anonymity. No difference has been found between the three investigated approaches for the selected data set. Since, the aim of the k-anonymity is to not transform the information about any individual record among those k-1 individual, the recorded type and the number of attributes play a key role for the anonymization process. One of the risk is the using continuous attributes in the anonymization process which may cause the information lose in the anonymization process such as near real time energy consumptions. Hence we have focused on to anonymization of the consumers' demographic information, rather than their energy consumption.","PeriodicalId":171503,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128920867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This phenomenon has led to profound impacts on China's national health and welfare system, social stability, economic development, and productivity, and so is forcing the country to adopt new innovative, resourceful and reliable means to offer better health and caring services to the elderly people. Wearable technologies have the potential to aid this struggle, but there is currently very limited understanding on Chinese old people's requirements for using these technologies. Such misunderstanding can lead to severe mismatch between wearable functions and actual user needs, and so minimize the potential and usefulness of wearable technologies. Therefore, this paper aims to address this knowledge gap by reporting on an exploratory study that investigated Chinese older people's user requirements towards wearable healthcare devices. Five focus groups were conducted to collect insights and opinions respectively from five Chinese families. Each family participated in the focus group contained at least 1-2 elderly member, together with 2-4 family members who held caring responsibilities. The thematic analysis approach was used to analyse the collected qualitative data. The results showed that user requirements of Chinese elderly people contained three main categories, namely healthcare, data privacy and security, and commodity and entertainment needs. The paper concluded that these identified user requirements should be carefully considered by wearable hardware designers, system developers, and service providers if they want their innovative products and services to be accepted by the intended users in the Chinese market.","PeriodicalId":171503,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115401309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The City of Things testbed, which is a smart city testbed located in the city of Antwerp, Belgium wants to address the underlying research challenges by means of a multi-technology network infrastructure, the capacity to easily perform data experiments on top and a living lab approach to validate the experiments. The demo described in this paper showcases a first use case scenario, visualizing live air quality data that is monitored via sensors installed on top of mobile post vans, driving around in the City of Antwerp. At the same time, recent efforts towards personalized healthcare and smart transportation aim to analyze individuals' data, such as electronic medical records and user mobility patterns, to derive important insights. The implementation of a smart city largely depends on the ability to extract knowledge from person-specific data. This, however, may come at a cost to individuals' privacy. In this paper we propose FPVI, a fast algorithm for discovering privacy vulnerabilities in relational data. FPVI operates in a multi-threaded fashion to index and scan the data for vulnerabilities, while pruning the search space to boost performance. Our experimental evaluation shows that FPVI outperforms the state-of-the-art method and can analyze datasets of 11 million records and 20 attributes in less than 9 minutes.","PeriodicalId":171503,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115353591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
