Objectives The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning of the Soeumin’s Watery diarrhea with little residue(下利淸水). Methods We examined the Watery diarrhea with little residue and Daeseunggi-tang(大承氣湯) in Sanghanlun(傷寒論), and considered the quotation and the treatment of the Watery diarrhea with little residue in Donguisusebowon(東醫壽世保 元). Afterward, we considered the meaning of the Soeumin’s Watery diarrhea with little residue by comparing the view of Junggyeong Jang and Jema Lee. Results and Conclusion 1. Jaricheongsu Saeksuncheong(自利淸水 色純靑) is an expression about the aspect of the Watery diarrhea in Sanghanlun. Especially, Saeksuncheong(色純靑) means there is no residue in Watery diarrhea, and is an expression to distinguish from Haricheonggok(下利淸穀). 2. Haricheongsu(下利淸水) is the Watery diarrhea with little residue in Donguisusebowon. It is caused by the coldness of the Soeumin and should be understood separately from Harihwangsu(下利黃水). 3. Considering the characteristics of the Soeumin, Jema Lee divided the aspects of the Watery diarrhea according to turbidity. Then, he suggested Gwangyebujaijung-tang(官桂附子理中湯) in the warm method(溫法), Seed of Crotonis Fructus(巴 豆) in the diarrhea method(下法), and Gangchulgwanjung-tang(薑朮寬中湯) in the warm method after using the diarrhea method as the treatment of the Watery diarrhea with little residue, and aimed to treat the coldness of the Soeumin.","PeriodicalId":17064,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine","volume":"27 1","pages":"1-9"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82644673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Introduction This study aims to report a significant improvement of Sjögren’s syndrome patient with irritable bladder, diagnosed as ‘Soyangin chest-binding symptomatology’ based on Sasang medicine. Methods The patient had treatment with ‘Dojeokganggi-tang’ and western medications. We evaluated the treatment outcome of Sjögren’s syndrome symptoms by using a numerical score of 0 to 10, based on the patient’s subjective discomfort of dry eye and dry mouth, and irritable bladder symptoms by recording the number of night urination every month. Results Sjögren’s syndrome symptoms were significantly improved, and the number of night urination was decreased. After 41 weeks of treatment, the patient didn't have dry mouth any more and had only a little dry eye. The number of night urination was decreased from 3-4 times to once a night. Discussion The patient diagnosed with Sjögren’s syndrome, treated with Dojeokganggi-tang and western medications for 41 weeks, showed a significant improvement in dry eye, dry mouth, and night urination compared to the first visit.","PeriodicalId":17064,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine","volume":"148 1","pages":"46-54"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80634685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Method The original text about Taeeumin Mongsul disease and corresponding prescription in Donguisusebowon Sinchuk edition written in 1901 and Donguisusebowon Gabo edition written in 1894 were compared and analyzed. Furthermore, the literature and articles which are relevant to the prescription and the difference of pathology between the Gabo edition and the Sinchuk edition of Donguisusebowon were searched. Results & Conclusion Sinchuk editon compared to Gabo edition differentiates prescriptions according to the condition of stool, which means that Mongsul disease can occur both in Lung-dryness of Esophagus-Cold pathology and that of Liver-Heat pathology. The prescriptions presented in Sinchuk edition are more specified and in agreement with pathology newly proposed in Sinchuk edition than the prescriptions in Gabo edition. Although Cheongsimyeonja-tang is not mentioned on the original text about Taeeumin Mongsul disease in Sinchuk edition, it can be prescribed for the disease with Lung-dryness of Liver-Heat pathology as Yuldahanso-tang can be. The purpose of this study was to show the clinical usefulness of these measures as objective clinical index of Sasang typology in foreign countries lacking validated measures. Methods The Sasang type of 103 university students was diagnosed using Questionnaire for Sasang Constitution Classification (QSCC) II and clinical specialist, and biopsychological and physical features with NS, HA, Sasang Personality Questionnaire (SPQ) and BMI. These measures were normalized to make a noble index of ‘NS(100-HA)’, and the correlation among these were examined with Pearson’s correlation. The differences of biopsychological and physical features between Sasang type groups were attested with ANCOVA, and the comparison of clinical usefulness of SPQ and NS(100-HA) were examined with discriminant analysis. Results SPQ and BMI were clinically useful for Sasang typology as shown in previous studies, and the substitution of SPQ with normalized NS(100-HA) was found acceptable. The NS(100-HA) is significantly correlated with SPQ (r=0.466, p<0.01), however not with BMI (r=0.079, ns). The SPQ and NS(100-HA) scores were found to be distinctive between Sasang type groups, and these were found to predict Sasang type of participants with similar correctness. Discussion and Conclusion The current study reviewed the theoretical backgrounds and confirmed the clinical usefulness of Cloninger’s biopsychological theory in Sasang typology. These might provide foundations for integrative medicine and cross-cultural biopsychology of the East and West.","PeriodicalId":17064,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine","volume":"10 1","pages":"34-47"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88864391","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
