However, the synergistic potential of antacid salts within natural feed products remains underexplored. In this in vitro study, we aimed to compare six supplements comprising natural ingredients for their ability to safeguard gastric cells and mitigate cytotoxicity under hyperacidity conditions. While Product 1 showed ineffectiveness in cell protection, Products 2, 3, 4, and 5 exhibited varying degrees of reversal of hyperacidity-induced cytotoxicity. Notably, Product 6 demonstrated superior efficacy in shielding gastric cells from acidic pH-induced cytotoxicity, displaying a dose-dependent response. These findings highlight the potential of natural supplements, particularly Product 6, as promising candidates for mitigating gastritis-related conditions in pets. Further research, including in vivo studies, is warranted to validate these observations and explore their clinical applicability.\u0000","PeriodicalId":16959,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pharmacy and Nutrition Sciences","volume":"118 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141926335","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this vitro study is to assess the antioxidant efficacy of three distinct components (fermented S-Acetyl -L-glutathione, Silybum marianum (L.) Gaern. and vitamin E all-rac-alpha-tocopheryl acetate) both individually and in combination (Glutasyl product). In addition, we also evaluated the combined antioxidant effect of the three ingredients on human hepatic cells subjected to oxidative stress induced by H2O2 treatment.\u0000The results showed the dose-dependent antioxidant potential of the three components suggesting promising applications in medical contexts. The synergistic antioxidant effects observed for the Glutasyl was more than the individual components. It is often accompanied by sarcopenia, defined as the progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength. Together, these conditions increase the risk of falls, fractures, disability, lower quality of life, and frequent hospitalization. This means increased healthcare costs for all European countries, due to the increase in the average age and elderly population. Multiple pharmacological therapies are available for osteoporosis, but the prevention seems to be an important tool to reduce the risk of fracture and hospitalization of patients. A healthy lifestyle, consisting of the right amount of nutrients and micronutrients and physical exercise can help prevent the development of osteoporosis and sarcopenia in the elderly. This review brings together the information present in the literature on the benefits that nutrients and micronutrients, naturally present in foods, have on the prevention of these pathologies. it is suggested that a correct intake of proteins, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, vitamin.D, vitamin C and antioxidants, vitamin K and omega 3, associated with constant physical exercise, can help to contain osteoporosis. It also indicates the right physical exercise for older osteoporotic adults. This document drawn up by the CReI-Food study group of the Italian College of Rheumatologists aims to provide, based on the most recent scientific evidence, indications on correct nutrition and lifestyle for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in older people.","PeriodicalId":16959,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pharmacy and Nutrition Sciences","volume":"62 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86985890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fruit pulps were analyzed for chemical (proximate) composition, amino acids profile, vitamins, and phytochemical and anti-nutritional compositions. Oils were extracted from the fruit seeds and the physico-chemical properties of the seed oils were determined according to the standard protocols. The results showed that the fruit pulps contained an abundance of macro- and micro-nutrients which varied significantly (p < 0.05) among the varieties with low anti-nutrients. The essential amino acid contents were high and varied significantly (p < 0.05) among the varieties. Glutamic acid, followed by aspartic acid had the highest concentration of the amino acids, while the concentrations of methionine and cysteine were low in all the varieties. The results also revealed high essential amino acids score values, above 100% for isoleucine and total aromatic amino acids. The physicochemical properties of the fruit oils showed that the oils were edible (low acid value) and may have industrial potential due to their low peroxide, iodine, and saponification values. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as Diclofenac Sodium, are widely used but have been associated with numerous adverse effects, including those on the gastrointestinal tract, liver, and kidney. Selenium, an essential element in mammalian biology, has demonstrated antioxidant properties that enable it to antagonize the effects of free radicals. The present study aimed to investigate the potential protective effect of Selenium against Diclofenac Sodium-induced nephrotoxicity in rats. The study sample consisted of 32 male albino Wistar rats and was randomly divided into 4 groups: Control group, Diclofenac group (Dic group) (administered at a dose of 50 mg/kg I.M., for 3 days), Selenium group (Se group) (administered at a dose of 1 mg/kg I.P., for 8 days), and Diclofenac plus Selenium group (Dic + Se group). Rats were sacrificed on the 9th day. The results were analyzed with a significance level of p<0.05. The findings revealed significant tubular and glomerular injuries in the Diclofenac group compared to the control group. However, there was no statistically significant improvement observed in the Dic + Se group. In conclusion, the results of this study suggest that Selenium affords partial protection against Diclofenac Sodium-induced nephrotoxicity, but it is not sufficient to provide complete protection.","PeriodicalId":16959,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pharmacy and Nutrition Sciences","volume":"8 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83668908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Albino mice were inoculated with 10×LD50 of influenza virus A/Aichi/2/68(H3N2). Oseltamivir was applied for five days after infection, twice per day, in a dose of 2.5 mg/kg. SAM was applied for ten days in a 100 mg/kg dose, starting five days before inoculation. Markers of oxidative stress, mortality rate, mean survival time, index, and protection coefficient were followed. Influenza infection causes severe oxidative damage to the liver. All combinations of SAM and oseltamivir restored the levels of the biochemical markers to those in healthy animals and improved the virological parameters. A combination of SAM 100 mg/kg and oseltamivir 2.5 mg/kg, which is 1/4 of the optimal therapeutic mice dose, exhibits protection index and affects most effectively all the tested parameters. The present study aims to evaluate in vitro antibacterial activity of green coffee and its active compounds (chlorogenic acid extract and caffeine extract) against some periodontogenic and nosocomial bacteria. The bioactive compounds, viz. chlorogenic acid and caffeine, were extracted through soxhlet extraction using methanol and water, respectively, and HPLC UV quantified these compounds. The study reported 3 CQA, 4 CQA, and 5 CQA as the significant chlorogenic acids in green coffee beans. Aqueous extract of green coffee beans (AGCB), which is dominant in caffeine, has been found to be the least effective against both periodontal and nosocomial bacteria. The result of our study revealed that the methanol extract of green coffee bean (MGCB), rich in chlorogenic acid, exhibits the highest inhibitory activity against periodontogenic bacteria, followed by the ethanol extract of green coffee bean (EGCB) and AGCB extract. EGCB extract was significantly effective against Staphylococcus epidermidis among selected nosocomial pathogens. AGCB extract was least effective against all bacteria. The results highlight that green coffee polyphenols, especially chlorogenic acid, could be used as antimicrobial agents in different biotechnological applications. The antibacterial property of green coffee highlights its potential as a naturally active antibacterial compound.","PeriodicalId":16959,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pharmacy and Nutrition Sciences","volume":"19 2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82899271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
