Besides this, seed of V. unguiculata possesses some medicinal values like being an antioxidant etc. In this study, seeds of V. unguiculata were used to determine the link between its total phenolic content and lipid lowering activity. Phytochemicals presents in the seeds were evaluated. Total phenolic content (TPC) was determined by using folin-ciocalteu method. High fat diet induced obese mice were used for anti-obesity and antihyperlipidemic test. Body weight gain, total cholesterol and triglyceride levels were analyzed. Preliminary phytochemical screening showed that amino acid, phenol, alkaloid and terpenes were very strongly present in cowpea seed, while carbohydrate, cardiac glycoside, was moderately present. The V. unguiculata seeds showed significant total phenolic content with a value of 119.716mg of GAE/gm equivalent. Cowpea seeds, with a dose of 400mg/kg body-weight, showed significant reduction in body weight gain when treated with fat diet compared with normal diet. Cowpea seeds are also capable of lowering the serum cholesterol (p < 0.01) and serum triglyceride level (p < 0.01) more significantly in high fat diet induced obesity. V. unguiculata seeds have a significantly high total phenolic content while the other phytochemicals are moderately present in them. It has anti-obesity activity that can interfere with serum cholesterol and triglyceride metabolism. So, it seems like a healthy diet for the management of obesity and other heart related disease.

Proper nutrition provides growth, contributes to the prevention of diseases, increase efficiency and prolong life of people, while creating conditions for adequate adaptation to the environment. A large part of the population of Kazakhstan as a result of technological processing, the use of inferior in chemical composition of food raw materials, the influence of other causes, does not receive the necessary amount of essential components of food, which lead to illness, premature old age and shortened life. The situation is aggravated by the low cultural level of the population in terms of good nutrition and the lack of skills to lead a healthy lifestyle. In addition, Early initiation of breastfeeding (EIB) and exclusive breast milk from birth to the age of six months are two important breastfeeding practices in reducing infant mortality rate and increasing exclusive breastfeeding success. This study aims to look at the condition of early initiation of breastfeeding (EIB) and exclusive breastfeeding among breastfeeding mothers in Takalar District. This study was a descriptive study investigating some variables such as socio-demographics, pregnancy history, and early initiation breastfeeding practice. The population consisted of all breastfeeding mothers and samples were chosen randomly (56 subjects). Study findings indicate that the majority of the mothers had been successful in providing exclusive breast milk (92.9%). This indicates a very good situation. When viewed from the EIB implementation factor, the proportion of mothers giving birth who had practiced EIB was still low (26.8%). This indicated that there were respondents who were not successful in practicing EIB but successful in exclusive breastfeeding.

The bioactive compound constituents in NRBOs, including tocotrienols, tocopherols, and γ-oryzanol were analyzed by reversed-phase HPLC. Then, anti-inflammatory activity was investigated through an inhibition effect on NO and iNOS production induced by combined lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-interferon-γ (IFN-γ) in RAW264.7 mouse macrophage cells. The results demonstrated that NRBOs prepared from purple rice, red rice and non-pigmented rice consist of δ, γ, and α-tocotrienol, δ, β, γ, and α-tocopherol, and γ-oryzanol. γ-Oryzanol, γ-tocotrienol, and γ-tocopherol were the major bioactive compounds in NRBOs. NRBOs prepared from purple rice bran exhibited higher concentrations of the bioactive compounds than red rice bran and non-pigmented rice bran, respectively. Khaoʹ′ GamLeum-Phua (KGLP) exhibited the highest amount of δ, γ and α-tocotrienol, δ, γ, β and α-tocopherol, and γ-oryzanol. Interestingly, all NRBOs inhibited NO and iNOS production by LPS/IFN-γ-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Additionally, NRBO prepared from KGLP exhibited the highest inhibitory activity on NO and iNOS production. There may a potential use for pigmented NRBOs especially cultivated in mountainous areas which containing high amounts of tocotrienols, tocopherols, and γ-oryzanol, as a natural anti-inflammatory active ingredient in nutraceutical and cosmeceutical products.

Oxidative stress is often related to aging, Oxygen metabolism and redox imbalance in cells and tissues. It is a cellular state in which oxidants levels e.g. superoxide (O-2), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) or nitric oxide (NO) in biological metabolisms exceed the oxidants scavenging capacity of cells. Oxidative stress in brain leads to depression, anxiety, memory impairment and behavioral deficits associated with them.\u0000Method: 24 male albino wistar rats were allocated into test and controls groups administered with sodium azide (5 mg/kg bodyweight) (i.p.) and water (p.o.) respectively for 14 days. Behaviors were monitored weekly after 24 hours of sodium azide administration in light/dark box, elevated plus maze, Open field and Morris water maze.\u0000Results: Test animals that were administered with sodium azide significantly decreased entries and time spent in illuminated area of light dark box and elevated plus maze while increased latency and fewer square crossed were observed with decreased learning acquisition and memory retention.\u0000Conclusion: All the data collected and results analysis determine oxidative stress could cause mood disorders learning disabilities.
