A multimodal intervention was implemented targeting nursing staff at 2 public Specialized Primary Care Centers. Data on the knowledge levels of nurses and nursing assistants, as well as the implementation of active patient identification, were collected.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The study included 27 health care professionals and 353 direct observations of patient active identification. Knowledge was assessed via a questionnaire, and active identification observations were conducted between March 2022 and December 2023. After the intervention, the correct performance rate improved to 100%, slightly decreasing to 82.3% over 21 months post-intervention. {"title":"The Association Between Quality and Safety of Nursing Care: A Correlational Study.","authors":"Daniela Bartoníčková, Dominika Kohanová, Lenka Mazalová, Lucie Holušová, Nikola Lorencová, Anna Fišerová, P Jane Greaves","doi":"10.1097/NCQ.0000000000000847","DOIUrl":"10.1097/NCQ.0000000000000847","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Background: </strong>Patient safety culture is critical for ensuring quality nursing care, yet its role is not fully understood in various health care settings.</p><p><strong>Purpose: </strong>To explore the association between patient safety culture and nurses' perceptions of the quality of nursing care provided in hospitals in the Czech Republic.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>A correlation study was conducted with 535 nurses from 6 hospitals using the questionnaires Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture 2.0 and Scale of Perception of Nursing Activities that Contribute to Nursing Care Quality.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Significant associations were found between nursing care quality and dimensions of patient safety culture. The Quality Improvement Minimum Quality Criteria Set was used to evaluate methodological quality.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The 10 quality improvement studies all included a multifactorial intervention and most based these on an assessment with few targeting cancer-specific factors. Most interventions were staff-focused with a few incorporating the patient's input.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>Individualized assessments and interventions enhance care effectiveness when patient care teams and patients are aligned. {"title":"Early Milk Expression for Mothers of Premature Infants and Its Impact on Milk Volumes.","authors":"Elisheva Rosner, Eleanor Hall, Marianne Garland","doi":"10.1097/NCQ.0000000000000889","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1097/NCQ.0000000000000889","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Background: </strong>Early breast milk expression helps establish lactation and increase milk production.</p><p><strong>Local problem: </strong>In mothers of infants admitted to this neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), 63% met target milk volumes on day 7 and 43% on day 14 postpartum.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>A pre/post quasi-experimental design was used.</p><p><strong>Interventions: </strong>Breast milk expression was initiated within 6 hours of delivery.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>A total of 69 mothers were included (34 baseline; 35 post-implementation). Time to first milk expression decreased from 9.21 to 7.97 hours, P = .381. {"title":"An Innovative Escape Room Intervention to Improve Medical-Surgical Nurses' Knowledge, Confidence, and Care of Patients With Sepsis.","authors":"Jaime Moore, Kimberly Pate, James Montegrico, Kelly Powers","doi":"10.1097/NCQ.0000000000000875","DOIUrl":"10.1097/NCQ.0000000000000875","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Background: </strong>Sepsis is a leading cause of transfers to intensive care units (ICUs) and hospital mortality, often due to delayed recognition in medical-surgical units.</p><p><strong>Local problem: </strong>Project site sepsis data showed that 19.4% of ICU transfers originated from medical-surgical units, accounting for 27% of sepsis mortality cases.</p><p><strong>Intervention: </strong>This quality improvement project evaluated a sepsis-themed escape room to train medical-surgical nurses.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>After training, mean knowledge scores increased from 77.4% to 82.4% ( P = .068). Significant improvements were seen in self-reported confidence in identifying patients with sepsis ( P = .02), knowing how and what to monitor in patients with sepsis ( P = .007), and knowing initial management of patients with sepsis ( P = .008).
