It examines current system structures such as conventional solar chargers with an aim to highlight evident weaknesses in existing system structures. Based on the analysis, the paper presents measurement results that indicate that prevailing strategies are not sophisticated enough to meet smartphone users expectations. It is important to note that the recharging time and the quantity of energy required for operational smartphones are critical. We propose design specifications that make solar changers competitive in terms of expenses when compared with universal serial bus (USB) chargers.","PeriodicalId":168063,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 11th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD14)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128218574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The retinal resting potential causes an electric field around the eyeball, centred on the optical axis, which can be measured by placing electrodes near to the eye. An acquisition system was implemented for measuring this potential in order to detect the movement of the eyes and to provide a relative gaze position, making it possible to codify ocular actions as commands. A human-computer interface (HCI) to control the mouse and a virtual screen keyboard, that offers simple setup combined with high performance, have also been developed. This device has multiple applications, especially in assistive research, where control is governed by means of the ocular position (eye displacement in its orbit). The theory behind the device and the hardware and software design of the system are presented.","PeriodicalId":168063,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 11th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD14)","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127256333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In case of standard particle filter, the latest observation is not considered for the evaluation of the weights of the particles as the importance function is taken to be equal to the prior density function. This choice of importance sampling function simplifies the computation but can cause filtering divergence. In cases where the likelihood function is too narrow as compared to the prior function, very few particles will have significant weights. Hence a better proposal distribution that takes the latest observation into account is desired. The proposed algorithm consists of a particle filter based on minimizing the Kullback-Leibler divergence distance to generate the optimal importance proposal distribution. The proposed algorithm allows the particle filter to incorporate the latest observations into a prior updating scheme using the estimator of the posterior distribution that matches the true posterior more closely. In the comparative study, the state variables are estimated from noisy measurements of these variables, and the various estimation techniques are compared by computing the estimation root mean square error with respect to the noise-free data. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm, outperforms the standard particle filter, the unscented Kalman filter, and the extended Kalman filter algorithms.","PeriodicalId":168063,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 11th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD14)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133262918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By considering the droop control in the power flow analysis for the DC microgrid, when compared with traditional methods, more accurate analysis results can be obtained. The algorithm verification is carried out by comparing the calculation results with detailed time domain simulation results. With the droop parameters as variables in the power flow analysis, their effects on power sharing and secondary voltage regulation can now be analytically studied, and specialized optimization in the upper level control can also be made accordingly. Case studies on power sharing and secondary voltage regulation are carried out using proposed power flow analysis.","PeriodicalId":168063,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 11th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD14)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129274542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This issue is incited by the increasing presence of power converters in modern networks leading to more harmonics and loss. Actually, the connection of photovoltaic or wind systems to the grid is notably growing up in addition of HVDC links. All of the cited systems need power converters to insure proper working. The suggested transformer model is developed using MATLAB/Simulink/SimPowerSystems software based on 10 kVA 230/230 V transformer data. Magnetic core geometry is supported as well as core saturation, dynamic iron resistance, winding impedance frequency dependency and capacitive effects. Parameter validation was made through several tests such as transformer unbalanced supply and load and transformer insertion in some power conversion chains. Results have shown that the model is suitable for calculating windings and iron loss under non sinusoidal excitations.","PeriodicalId":168063,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 11th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD14)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129243693","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The strategy has been implemented through a PID controller, parameters of which are tuned through an artificial bee colony (ABC) optimization procedure. The small signal response of the system has been evaluated through a 5th order system dynamic model with and without the PID model incorporated. A simple pole-placement technique was employed to get the range of parameters used as input to the ABC algorithm. It was observed that the PID controller, with controller gains determined through ABC algorithm, provided very good transient profile following large disturbances in the system.","PeriodicalId":168063,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE 11th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD14)","volume":"8 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115675996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
