Regarding the used communication paradigm, a very large number of strategies exist and, recently, self-induced emotions have been introduced. However, in general the actual emotion-based BCIs are just binary, since they are capable of recognizing just a single emotion. A crucial node is the introduction of more than a single emotional state for improving the efficiency of a BCI. In order to be used in BCIs, signals from different emotional states have to be collected, recognized and classified. In the present paper, a method for mapping several emotional states was described and tested on EEG signals collected from a publicly available dataset for emotion analysis using physiological signals (DEAP). The proposed method, its experimental protocol, and preliminary numerical results on three different emotional states were presented and discussed. The method, based on multiple binary classification, was capable of optimizing the most discriminative channels and the features combination for each emotional state and of recognizing between several emotional states through a polling","PeriodicalId":167011,"journal":{"name":"International Congress on Neurotechnology, Electronics and Informatics","volume":"329 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124640139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It proposes a common digital representation for behavioral studies with C. elegans. This work is a step forward towards the reproducibility and comparability of in silico simulations of the nematode with real-world experiments. The digital representation is divided into environmental and experimental configurations. The behavioral input is structured by duration-based behavioral experiment types at the top level (i.e. interaction at a specific time, interaction from t0 – t1 and overall duration) and by interaction type (i.e. mechanotaxis, chemotaxis, thermotaxis, galvanotaxis and phototaxis) for each duration-based type. The environment configuration is composed of the identification of the worm’s mutation type, worm crowding, initial location, configuration of the assay plate, and obstacle settings. Parameters are defined by an XML schema to ensure the interoperability with other simulation solutions. It is being implemented and tested in the context of the Si elegans project.","PeriodicalId":167011,"journal":{"name":"International Congress on Neurotechnology, Electronics and Informatics","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131730986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Serious games provide a repetitive and structured gamebased training while monitoring user performance and progress. In this paper, we present a description of an ongoing pilot study of a serious games-based system to train posture, balance and weight shifting after stroke at home. We also present a preliminary description of three patients enrolled in the pilot study that are successfully accomplishing an in-home training program showing good adherence, acceptance and satisfaction with the technology.","PeriodicalId":167011,"journal":{"name":"International Congress on Neurotechnology, Electronics and Informatics","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126539906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The information conveyed in these recordings can be an extremely useful tool in the diagnosis of some diseases and disturbances, as well as in the development of non-invasive Brain-Machine Interfaces (BMI). However, the non-invasive electrical recording setup comes with two major downsides, a. poor signal-to-noise ratio and b. the vulnerability to any external and internal noise sources. One of the main sources of artefacts are eye movements due to the electric dipole between the cornea and the retina. We have previously proposed that monitoring eye-movements provide a complementary signal for BMIs. He we propose a novel technique to remove eye-related artefacts from the EEG recordings. We couple Eye Tracking with EEG allowing us to independently measure when ocular artefact events occur and thus clean them up in a targeted manner instead of using a “blind” artefact clean up correction technique. Three standard methods of artefact correction were applied in an event-driven, supervised manner: 1. Independent Components Analysis (ICA), 2. Wiener Filter and 3. Wavelet Decomposition and compared to “blind” unsupervised ICA clean up. These are standard artefact correction approaches implemented in many toolboxes and experimental EEG systems and could easily be applied by their users in an event-driven manner. Already the qualitative inspection of the clean up traces show that the simple targeted artefact event-driven clean up outperforms the traditional “blind” clean up approaches. We conclude that this justifies the small extra effort of performing simultaneous eye tracking with any EEG recording to enable simple, but targeted, automatic artefact removal that preserves more of the original signal.","PeriodicalId":167011,"journal":{"name":"International Congress on Neurotechnology, Electronics and Informatics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129858941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
