Among these complications, thrombosis has gained prominence as a significant concern, leading to thrombotic events in various vascular beds throughout the body, highlighting cocaine’s systemic pro-thrombotic impact. However, its role in hepatic vascular disorders remains relatively underrecognized. This case report details the clinical presentation of a 23-year-old male with Budd-Chiari syndrome linked to cocaine use disorder, emphasizing the critical need for healthcare providers to recognize hepatic vascular disorders as possible outcomes of cocaine abuse.","PeriodicalId":166372,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Reports","volume":"111 45","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139134525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Whilst some infectious colitis can cause bloody diarrhea, usually the blood loss is minimal and does not require an endoscopic intervention. Case Presentation: In this report, we present a case of a 64-year-old Lebanese female with multiple comorbidities including renal failure on hemodialysis, hypertension and multiple myeloma on chemotherapy who presented for an acute episode of lower GI bleeding as a result of an antibiotic associated colitis by clostridium difficile infection. Conclusion: Therefore, we should be vigilant about infectious colitis as a cause of GI bleeding in the immunosuppressed individuals and elderly with multiple comorbidities.","PeriodicalId":166372,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Reports","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115703898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on studies carried out from 2013 to 2022 in the PubMed, Google Academic, and Medline databases to analyze the surgical technique of the case report and compare it with other literature. The enteroatmospheric fistula (EAF), as its name indicates, is defined as an opening that connects the gastrointestinal tract and the atmosphere, located in an open abdomen, being a consequence of abdominal surgeries, traumas, perforations, ischemia, and leakage of the anastomosis after surgery. The amount of time the abdomen stays open is directly related to the risk of EAF. That is, the longer the time with the abdomen open, the more significant the risk of EAF. Among the types of fistulas, those with a high volume (>500mL) are considered the most lethal. Spontaneous closure is complex and rare, as there is not an abundance of vascularized tissue in the region, in addition to the fact that the tissue is in constant contact with the contents of the gastrointestinal tract, causing tissue irritation and delaying healing speed. In the context of this pandemic, bariatric surgery is the most effective treatment for the long-term resolution of the disease, having both structural and anatomic and hormonal effects on the gastrointestinal tract. The hormones analyzed in this review are cholecystokinin, secrete, gastrin, glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), peptide YY, pancreatic polypeptide, leptin, adiponectin, ghrelin, glucose, cholesterol, gastric inhibitory peptide, insulin, and glucagon. After bariatric procedures, changes in vitamins and micronutrients are also observed, which can lead to anemia, changes in coagulation, bone metabolism, neurological, and immunological deficiencies.","PeriodicalId":166372,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Reports","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117321806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
