Therefore, the knowledge at any time of the sun position is very important for most solar systems including those doing sun tracking. In several solar devices, the user manually must provide the values of geographical latitude, geographical longitude, time and date to do tasks as solar tracking or just to know the sun position, which can be tedious, ineffective and error prone. This paper describes the implementation of a portable system to evaluate the sun position using a GPS receiver and a sun position algorithm programmed in Python. The knowledge of the sun position is important to control and operate the solar energy systems. The algorithm results are the sun trajectory, solar azimuth angle, solar altitude angle, latitude, longitude, actual time and sunrise-sunset times.","PeriodicalId":166098,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121627648","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several solutions have been developed to provide greater flexibility to power systems during light load and maximum demand condition. These are two of the most critical conditions to keep the nodal voltage at nominal value. In this paper a novel conceptual design of variable reactor is proposed as shunt compensation device based on virtual air-gap principle. The suitability of the virtual-gap reactor as compensation device is verified by means of simulations and laboratory test performed in a small-scale prototype. The results obtained and discussed confirm the use of virtual-gap reactor as a feasible alternative for reactive power compensation.","PeriodicalId":166098,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129065129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using the NSGA-II optimization method is found a set of optimal combinations for the converter parameters (inductors and capacitors), such that the open loop performance of the converter is improved. The constraints associated to current/voltage ripples and zero-pole locations are used to improve the design. Simulation results show that the optimized converter can be easily controlled with only one control loop.","PeriodicalId":166098,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134513692","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we present an effort to profile and screen such kind of accounts from existing and original ground truth obtained from the Twitter platform. Seventy-one explanatory properties solely extracted from profile and timeline information are evaluated and used to compare the efficacy of common supervised machine learning methods at this classification task. Results confirm that feasible and largely effective detection devices can be constructed for the problem at hand.","PeriodicalId":166098,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117278021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For each of the synchronous grid-tie applications mentioned, the matrix converter is modeled as a voltage and current source correspondingly. The developed filter is comprised only by passive storage elements, in order to improve the efficiency of the overall compensation system and its design is based on a linear control law. Since the proposed filter topology does not include passive damping elements, the control strategy utilized ensures the stability and an adequate transient response of the compensator. The operating limits of the compensator are found analytically, which indicate the maximum power that can be injected to the main grid under the operative conditions considered. Finally, detailed simulations were carried out in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed filter design and the results obtained are used to verify the proper operation of the matrix converter in power compensation applications.","PeriodicalId":166098,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124771175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, an index is proposed in order to detect the early degradation of the rotor through the Wavelet Transform. The detection and evaluation of the rotor's health is carried out by a program developed for this end by the authors. By means of the user interface, the method for processing the start-up armature current is selected by the operator. The program is tested considering a series of operation conditions, including: steady and transient conditions. On the former, the classical approach with the aid of the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is applied, while in the latter the program utilizes both, the Short-Time Fourier Transform and the Wavelet Transform. Acceptable results are obtained using the techniques mentioned above for both, steady and transient conditions. The program outputs not just graphical results, also quantifies the level of fault by means of proposed rotor condition indexes; the results were obtained through laboratory tests using motors with different deterioration levels on the rotor.","PeriodicalId":166098,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124958337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These persons need developing several daily activities in the same way that they are done by people without visual impairments. These activities can be very difficult or dangerous for visually impaired persons (e.g. using public transport, crossing streets, walking alone, etc.). On those grounds, in this paper we present a low-cost system able to meet some needs of blind persons, such as face recognition, reminders to take medications, automatic mail reading, automatic detection of objects and their distance, among others. The proposed system can be easily added to any type of glove. With the aim of determining the real feasibility of the proposed approach, we have carried a pilot experiment with 5 persons with visual impairments. The first part of pilot experiment consisted of determining the response of the device under 4 environments with different light conditions as well as the object detection. In the second part we have measured the perceptions of participants after using device in real conditions. The achieved results shown good agreement of users with respect to weight and handling of the device (80% of participants are strongly agree); whereas the comfort must be improved (60% of participants are agree).","PeriodicalId":166098,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"128 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122011704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The improvement is based on the calculation of the Hardware Under Test (HUT) impedance, in order to include it as part of the Damping Impedance Method to enhance its accuracy and stability. To verify the results, the improved DIM interface is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink, furthermore, a laboratory implementation of a PHIL simulation is carried out using a variable load. The stability of the interface algorithm is graphically observed using the Nyquist and Bode stability criteria, whereas the precision is validated through simulations that compare the Mean Square Error (MSE), as well as laboratory experiments.","PeriodicalId":166098,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131211080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The COB packaging technology is suitable due to its high flexibility during design stages. Nevertheless, the high integration levels increases the number of LED-Chips, in addition electrical power increases, thus temperature rise considerably. Small-signal LED models are limited due to the few technical data from suppliers besides thermal influence. A COB-LED small-signal model was developed in Spice to couple thermal and electrical domains. The thermal domain was modelled by thermal resistances. The resistances were calculated using thermal properties and geometry. Only conduction and convection heat transfer mechanism were considered. Eventually, the model was validated against experimental data.","PeriodicalId":166098,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Autumn Meeting on Power, Electronics and Computing (ROPEC)","volume":"74 Supplement_3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125743587","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
