The characteristic features presented by tumours or tumour like conditions have a distinct picture of their own, and can be distinguished if viewed with an eagle’s eye. The aim of this review is to take an appearanceoriented approach for ease of correlation with day to day objects and thus helping in mastering the art of diagnosis. This paper aims to provide a single, concise source of recognition for majority of head and neck tumours or tumour like conditions. Review emphasises on radiologic and histopathologic appearances. © This is an open access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author and source are credited.","PeriodicalId":16606,"journal":{"name":"Journal of oral medicine","volume":"31 1","pages":"168-176"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77055816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This particular study evaluated the hepatitis B virus infection related awareness among dental graduates. A validated questionnaire regarding the awareness about hepatitis infection and various infection control measures was distributed among the students of different year of study in undergraduate bachelor dental graduate program. Final year students showed an increased awareness when compared to third year students. There is need for improving the knowledge among the nonclinical students, mainly on transmission of virus through salivary contact. The overall awareness among the students is only fairly satisfying, which signifies the need for continued infection control education among the students. © 2020 Published by Innovative Publication. Despite diagnostic and therapeutic advancements, mortality and morbidity rates in patients diagnosed with oral cancer remain constant. The most fundamental prognostic marker for patients with OSCC is metastasis to cervical lymph nodes or distant organs. Micrometastasis refers to the microscopic deposits of malignant cells distinct from the primary lesion. There are several techniques for detection of micrometastasis including Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) and serial sectioning but certain special stains that are reliable like Modified Papanicolaou stain and Toluidine can be used on serial sectioned lymph node sections to detect micrometastasis. Early recognition of micrometastatsis in OSCC especially after surgery is undeniably advantageous for the patient and aids in modifying the treatment. Micrometastasis being an essential adverse prognostic factor in oral and oropharyngeal SCC, it becomes the utmost responsibility of the clinician to inculcate various methods for its detection into future clinical trials and management strategies for better understanding and outcome of the disease. © 2020 Published by Innovative Publication. We have used this novel flap for reconstruction of the intra-oral, as well of the lower and mid face defects created after resection of certain intra-oral malignancies. Materials and Methods: This study included 15 patients and done over a period of 3 years. Cases were operated by a team of surgical oncologists using the same technique and under 2.5 x magnifications (loupe). Any nodes in the region were carefully dissected and sent for frozen section for intra-operative verification of presence or absence of microscopic tumor deposits. Evaluation had been done based on the clinical and pathological staging, nodal status as well as the patient outcome. Results: Out of the 15 patients who underwent reconstruction with submental flap, one patient developed total flap loss, whereas one patient had partial flap necrosis. The remaining 13 patients showed decent clinical outcome and the flap uptake was good. In the follow up period of 2 years, two patients developed regional recurrence (none in the flap donor or recipient sites) and 2 developed distant metastasis. Conclusion: Submental flap is an excellent flap for reconstruction of small to medium size defects for intra-oral as well as lower and mid face. It is useful in medically compromised conditions, old age or low socio-economic status of the patient as these factors preclude the use of a free flap. It is oncologically safe for reconstruction and in the absence of clinical or radiological evidence of nodal disease in sub-mental region and may be considered for reconstruction in N0 as well as N1 patients. © 2020 Published by Innovative Publication. The covalent or non-covalent bonds between these chemical and the DNA, RNA, and proteins of human tissue help in the initiation of carcinogenesis wherein, genetic mutation and alteration in the genome transcription supervenes. These carcinogens behave as initiators or promoters of cancer cell growth. Alkylation of DNA, RNA, or proteins and the formation of covalent bonds with them begins initially followed by the promoting effect. Numerous molecular and cellular events causing the transformation of normal cells into neoplastic cells occur in the process. It is assumed though that endogenous molecular pathways could instigate mutations in respective genes with the support of reactive oxygen species thus leading to DNA damage. Thus, this review deals with the basic mechanism and metabolism of chemical carcinogenesis. © 2020 Published by Innovative Publication.
