Methods: Four hundred and fifty one college students in Gyeonggi-do completed the revised version of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2) and a questionnaire and collected data were analyzed by IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 25.0 software (IBM Co., Armonk, NY, USA). Results: Mean values of the number of positive answers of TMD symptoms were significantly higher in higher scorers on hypochondriasis (Hs), depression (D), paranoia (Pa) (Hs>60, D>64, Pa>59) (p<0.01). Higher scorers on Hs, hysteria (Hy), schizophrenia (Sc), Pa, psychasthenia (Pt) (Hy>64, Sc>64, Pt>64) exhibited significantly higher mean values of the number of positive answers of contributing factors for TMD (p<0.01, p<0.001). Low scorers on social introversion (Si≤44) exhibited significantly lower mean value of the number of positive answers of contributing factors for TMD than high or moderate scorers on Si (Si>64, 4564) (p<0.01, p<0.05). The percentage of subjects who responded that they had at least one TMD symptom was significantly higher in higher scorers on Hs, Pt, D (p<0.05, p<0.01). The significantly higher percentage of higher scorers on D, Pa reported at least one contributing factor for TMD (p<0.05). The percentage of subjects who responded that they had at least one TMD symptom or one contributing factor for TMD was significantly different among three groups divided by T-score on Si (p<0.01, p<0.05). T-scores of Hs, D, Hy, Pt and Sc showed significant correlation with the numbers of TMD symptoms and contributing factors for TMD, respectively (p<0.001). A correlation was found between T-score of Pd and the number of TMD symptoms (p<0.001). T-score of Si correlated to the number of contributing factors for TMD (p<0.001). Conclusions: Most clinical scales of MMPI-2 were found to be related to TMD. Psychological assessment including MMPI-2 may play a role in predicting treatment outcome and planning treatment of TMD.","PeriodicalId":16606,"journal":{"name":"Journal of oral medicine","volume":"27 1","pages":"16-24"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79994981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can also occur in other sites like breast and skin. It is important to diagnose adenoid cystic carcinoma at its early stage because this tumor is well known for its local recurrence and distant metastasis. This tumor accounts for about 1% of all head and neck malignancies and 6-10% of all salivary gland neoplasms. Adenoid cystic carcinoma occurs in any salivary gland site, but approximately 50-60% develop within minor salivary gland especially palate. The tumor is seen to arise from the pluripotent stem cell which gives rise to ductal epithelial and myoepithelial cells. Three patterns occur in ACC namely cribriform, tubular and solid. The cribriform pattern is the most common form and the solid pattern is the least common. However, in most cases combination of two or more patterns are seen. The solid variant of ACC has significant morphological and immunohistochemical overlap with a large range of tumors including others carcinoma and sarcoma. Case Report: In this study, we describe three cases of oral cavity lesions with different clinical presentations. Histopathological examination was done and a diagnosis was made. Immunohistochemistry was further done to support the diagnosis. Discussion: Solid variant of ACC was diagnosed on histopathological examination of all three cases. Solid variant of ACC may be misinterpreted for many other benign and malignant tumors, in oral cavity, because cribriform pattern which is seen in most cases of ACC is lacking in this variant. These three cases are presented here because of rarity and difficulties in diagnosis of this pattern of ACC exist in microscopic examination. These patients need to be treated with intensive therapy to avoid recurrence and further spread.","PeriodicalId":16606,"journal":{"name":"Journal of oral medicine","volume":"5 1","pages":"186-186"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74546148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Angioleiomyomas presents a diagnostic challenge as its clinical features are non-specific that mimics other exophytic lesions and is usually misdiagnosed. \u0000Here we are reporting a case of angioleiomyoma in a 14- year- old Kashmiri boy. Various methods are used for age estimation using teeth, and there are many studies on the methodology. But the study of changes in the social aspects of age estimation with the passage of times is still insufficient. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the age estimation cases in the social aspects and to investigate the changes of age estimation cases in Jeollabuk-do. Methods: From January 2008 to December 2015, 76 cases of age estimation were collected. The collected data were organized and analyzed. The distribution of patients by age and year, the difference between alleged and registered age, the purpose of age estimation, and regional distribution were examined. In addition, we compared the previous study which analyzed the age estimation cases in Jeollabuk-do from 2000 to 2007. Results: According to the distribution by age, the age distribution was the largest in the 50s and 60s, with 69.8%. The most reason to correct age was related to welfare benefits (38.2%), and most of the people who corrected for welfare benefits were over 50 years old. The age correction for purpose of welfare benefits existed every year during the study period. As the result of comparison with previous study, total number of age estimation cases was decreased very sharply, and distribution by age group was also changed. Conclusions: Changes in age estimation cases were observed when compared to the previous study. A significant decrease in the total number of age estimation cases was observed, but the number of age estimation in the 50s did not decrease. Although the total number of age estimation requests decreases, age estimation in the elderly are likely to persist. Thus, it is necessary to study new age estimation methods suitable for the elderly.","PeriodicalId":16606,"journal":{"name":"Journal of oral medicine","volume":"108 1","pages":"118-124"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87572234","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
