The vast majority of such objects are cm-sized, not catalogued and usually the tracking data are not precise enough. Here we present the feasibility study of SD detection and tracking with techniques usually employed in cosmic-ray physics. For this purpose, we have evaluated the possibility of using Mini-EUSO, a space-borne fluorescence telescope to be deployed on the ISS, to track SD illuminated by the Sun. By means of ESAF (EUSO Simulation and analysis Framework) simulation and by developing the trigger algorithms, we estimated the minimum size and maximum distances of detectable SD. We then studied the number of possible SD detections using an ESA software called MASTER (Meteoroid and SD Terrestrial Environment Reference). With the Mini-EUSO Engineering Model (Mini-EUSO EM), we performed some measurements to estimate the reflectance of the most common SD materials and to demonstrate the ability of Mini-EUSO to detect SD events. We also performed some tests in open-sky conditions, identifying and tracking fast-moving objects. In particular, the detection of a rocket body allowed us to confirm the simulation outcomes predictions and the expected performance of the detector.

Discrete charge-preamplifiers and shaping amplifiers were used to read out the ohmic and junction side signals simultaneously using the SuperTIGER DAQ system. We report on the response in a configuration where all 32 strips were joined and read out together. The data of extinction coefficients over LHAASO have been analyzed by Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observations (CALIPSO) satellite during 2011-2017. Our results show that the AOD and EC have yearlyvariationwiththepeakvaluesinJuly, AugustandSeptember, andlessintheothermonths, which suggests that the atmospheric aerosols over LHAASO has its special characteristics. Over LHAASO the EC of the atmospheric aerosols are very small, which is consistent with other studies. The maximum values of EC occurredaround 6∼7km altitude. Their observation may provide new insight on several phenomena such as supermassive particle annihilation or the GZK effect. Because of the absence of any significant photon identificationby a leading experiments such as the Pierre Auger Observatory, we consider a screening phenomenon called preshower effect which could efficiently affect ultra-high energy photon propagation. \u0000This effect is a consequence of photon interactions with the geomagnetic field and results in large electromagnetic cascade of particles several thousands kilometers above the atmosphere. \u0000This collection of particles, called cosmic-ray ensembles (CRE), may reach the atmosphere and produce the well-known air showers. In this paper we propose to use gamma-ray telescopes to \u0000look for air showers induced by CRE. Possible sources of ultra-high energy photons include the GZK effect and Super Heavy Dark Matter particles. Simulations involving the preshower effect \u0000and detectors response are performed and properties of these peculiar air showers are investigated. It was launched from Wanaka (New Zealand) on April 25, 2017 UTC and was terminated after twelve days of flight in the South Pacific Ocean. A good knowledge of the atmospheric conditions and cloud properties, such as the Cloud Top Height (CTH), is fundamental to correctly reconstruct the energy and geometry of air showers produced by cosmic rays passing through the atmosphere. One of the methods used to retrieve the CTH is based on Numerical Weather Prediction models. In this work, we consider in particular the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. A first model test is made on the WRF parametrizations for elementary processes, applying a top-bottom directed algorithm based on two quantities: cloud fraction and optical depth. The validated procedure is then applied to the SPB1 trajectory, retrieving the CTH every ten minutes for the days of the flight. A comparison is made with the analyzed data taken from MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite images, once per day, to understand the reliability of the method. Another way to retrieve the CTH is the so-called radiative method, that allows to calculate the Cloud Top Temperature (CTT). A vertical temperature profile is needed to transform the CTT into CTH. When radiosoundings are not available, WRF can provide vertical temperature profiles. The conversion from the CTT to the CTH is then made.

One of the obstacles is that there is no astronomical object, which could be the source, behind the TA hotpot. In an effort to understand the origin of the TA hotspot, we suggested a model based on the magnetized cosmic web structure. The UHECRs were produced from sources in the Virgo cluster and were initially confined by cluster magnetic fields for a certain period. Next, some of them preferentially escaped to and propagated along filaments. Eventually, they were scattered by filament magnetic fields, and come to us. To examine the model, we followed the propagation trajectories of UHE protons in a simulated universe with clusters, filaments, and voids, by employing a number of models for cosmic magnetic fields. In this study, we present some of the initial results, such as the ratio between the particles directly escaping from the clusters to the voids and particles escaping from the clusters to the filaments. We also discuss the feasibility of our model for the origin of the hotspot by examining the trajectories of the UHE protons.

MAGIC already provides astronomical .fits files with basic final scientific products such as spectral energy distributions, light curves and skymaps from published results. In future, the format of the files can be complemented with further relevant information to the community: a) by including the full multi-wavelength dataset enclosed in a publication, b) providing data in alternative easy-to-use formats such as ASCII or XML, which are accessible with other commonly used packages such as gammapy. Finally, besides high level products, activities have started to provide photon event lists and instrument response functions in a format such that scientists within and outside the community are allowed to perform higher level analysis.
