The aim of the study was thus to determine the anaerobic resistance of soccer players by applying repeated maximal sprints. Materials and Methods: A group of 14 soccer players aged 19 - 27 years-old was subjected twice, in January and March, to a test consisting of maximal running 6x50 m with 15s intermissions between runs. The registered times were converted to speeds. The ratio of average speed to the maximum one achieved in all 6 runs, or the Performance Index (PI), was the measure of anaerobic resistance. Results: Average and maximum speeds were signifi cantly (p<0.001) higher in March (5.47 ± 0.25 and 5.67 ± 0.28, respectively) than in January (5.73 ± 0.31 and 5.97 ± 0.31, respectively), although still rather low. The PI values were on both occasions alike (0.960 and 0.965) and were not correlated with maximum speeds. Discussion: The presented method may serve as a useful tool in determining and classifying athletes with respect to their anaerobic resistance by applying repeated series of specifi c exercise.","PeriodicalId":164994,"journal":{"name":"Fitness & Performance Journal","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124812563","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materiais e Metodos: A amostra foi composta por um grupo de 51 individuos, 30 do genero masculino e 21 do genero feminino, com idade entre 18 e 47 anos, sendo estes academicos do curso de Educacao Fisica da Universidade do Contestado, Campus Universitario de Curitibanos - SC, que foram selecionados aleatoriamente. Estes foram avaliados uma unica vez, onde os valores coletados foram idade e espessura das dobras cutâneas tricipital, subescapular, peitoral, axilar media, suprailiaca, abdominal, e coxa, tendo as 7DC sido aferidas tres vezes cada, utilizando-se o valor medio. Os resultados foram lancados nas equacoes, utilizando-se o programa Microsoft Excel® para a obtencao do percentual de gordura, posteriormente comparados e analisados estatisticamente com o Teste Z. Resultados: Quando comparadas as duas equacoes, pode-se observar que houve uma variacao de 0,83% para o genero masculino entre as duas equacoes, e 1,97% para o genero feminino. Outro fator analisado durante a comparacao das mesmas equacoes, mas agora em relacao ao genero, e que 56,7% da amostra masculina apresentou valor inferior de %G na equacao de 7DC, o que se inverte no genero feminino, onde 90,5% apresentou valor superior na equacao de 7DC. Essas diferencas de resultado sao significativas quando comparados estatisticamente. La dieta cetogenica lleva a diferentes modificaciones metabolicas para la manutencion de la relacion ATP/ADP que incluyen el consumo de las reservas de glicogeno, el uso de los esqueletos de carbono de los aminoacidos y el aumento de la b-oxidacion de los acidos grasos. La genesis del amonio durante el ejercicio de alta intensidad es bien estudiado pero poco como acontece durante el ejercicio de intensidad moderada. En este estudio, investigamos el metabolismo de amonio durante el ejercicio de intensidad moderada asociado a una dieta cetogenica como modelo de estudio para el metabolismo de amonio. Materiales y Metodos: Los atletas (n=7) fueran evaluados clinicamente y tuvieran su consumo maximo de oxigeno (VO2max) evaluado y su frecuencia cardiaca (HRmax) maxima determinada. Los sujetos estuvieran en dieta cetogenica por 72h antes del ejercicio que fue hecho a la intensidad de 60% da potencia desarrollada en el VO2max y a 70%-75% de la HRmax durante 60min. Resultados: La amonemia basal aumento 35% debido a las modificaciones dieteticas. El ejercicio provoco el aumento de 250% en la amonemia. Paralelamente, la uremia subio 60% en respuesta a la dieta cetogenica sin ser modificada por el ejercicio. Medimos un aumento de 10% en el urato serico que no fue afectado por el protocolo de ejercicio. No hubo modificaciones en los niveles de glicemia o lactatemia durante todo el protocolo experimental. A ketogenic diet leads to several metabolic adaptations to maintain the ATP/ ADP ratio, including a lack of glycogen reservoirs, the use of amino acids as carbon skeleton donors and increased -oxidation of fatty acids. The formation of ammonia during high-intensity exercise is well studied, but its role in moderate-intensity exercise remains unclear. Here we investigate ammonia metabolism during moderate-intensity exercise associated with a ketogenic diet as a model system. Materials and Methods: Athletes (n=7) were physically evaluated and had their maximum oxygen consumption (VO 2max ) and heart rate (HR max ) determined. The subjects remained on a ketogenic diet 72h prior to exercise. They then exercised for 60min at a power output of 60% of that at VO 2max , and at 70%-75% of HR max . Results: Basal ammonemia increased by 35% due to dietetic modifi cations, while exercise caused a 250% increase in ammonemia in parallel with this effect. Uremia was increased by 60% due to the ketogenic diet without response to exercise. We measured a 10% increase in serum urate that did not change during the exercise protocol. No changes were found in glycemia or lactatemia. Discussion: Our data suggest that moderate-intensity exercise associated with a ketogenic diet can be used to study the increase in ammonemia and as a model to understand ammonia metabolism during metabolic stress.","PeriodicalId":164994,"journal":{"name":"Fitness & Performance Journal","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130466715","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
